Am I the only one that finds it crazy that there has been no talk surrounding coatings not applying to chest pieces by 343? They even mentioned the possibility of multiple helmet attachments in the past yet nothing regarding chest pieces that actually work with coatings. Still boggles the mind things that were done so easily in Reach (2010) seems so difficult for 343 in 2022.
Worst offender is vauntlocke (Jorge’s chest piece) where it covers a substantial amount of the body yet is stuck being grey on everything apart from Jorge’s coating.

This would be one thing I am hoping 343 addresses in a more comprehensive “game plan” disclosure for their intermediate and long term plans for where they want this game’s customization to end up.
I think some of that is still very much in flux, which is why we haven’t heard anything super solid. Uny indicated that the drop pod that may come out as soon as next week could start the process of dissolving core locks by allowing for cross-core visor customization. That would be an awesome first step!
I’m guessing priority wise, they’re still aiming for what Jerry Hook had outlined in the S2 community stream: making Visors, Coatings, and helmets cross-compatible in as many cases as possible across at least the non-Fractures cores. I would expect that addressing the weird issue of attachments ignoring coatings is way further down on the list, but it would still be very nice to hear about whether this was an intentional design decision, or if it’s unintended and they mean to address it eventually.
I’ve been refreshing my Twitter feed like crazy this week waiting for the blog detailing this drop pod, just hoping it will have a small section in it that addresses what they’re looking at next for improving Infinite’s customization.

I honestly don’t get why they went this route. Chest attachments only look good when you wear a gray coating.
And we know it is possible, because wearing Jun’s scarf together with Jun’s coating changes the color of the scarf. Same goes for the coating and the attachmment for Jorge and Sigrid Eklund.
We should just get the option in the customization menu if you want the attachments to match the armor coating, or if you want to keep it gray. Not only chest, but also helmet, wrist and hip.
