Last night before slumbering into my nightly coma, I was laying in my bed thinking of what kind of perks we might see? Given that these “perks” have not been given any hard background, I was kind of wondering what everyone else’s take on them were?
In my attempts to salvage the image of oldschool halo, I tried thinking up some of my own ideas on what minimalist style perks that 343i could add to the game without completely offsetting the balance. Here’s a few to get us started…
-
Thruster Pack - Unlike the Jetpack which can suspend a player in the air for a few seconds, the thrust pack would act as a high jump. With most 2 thrusts every 15-30 seconds. You could tell who is using this by a graphic visual of a jetpack on the players back.
-
Sprint - Unlike Sprint in REACH, sprint can only be used in very small bursts. This would still retain some use, as you could evade grenades or bolt behind a wall. Just hoping if Sprint is in the game, that it’s at least tempered way down. Visually, they could be presented with some sort of leg brace or vanilla legs.
-
Shield Display - In REACH, an enemies shield condition is visually displayed in a layer of golden cheese. I am hoping that this feature is included into vanilla gameplay, but if “perks” have to be implemented, I wouldn’t mind this being just one of them. Perhaps a small helmet attachment to show it’s being used?
-
Extra Ammo Storage - Much like what you would see in REACH, where the spartan chest piece “Assault” would appear on players to show they could carry a few extra rounds. However, IF this was implemented I wouldn’t want to see anything more than a 50% increase in storage capability.
-
Multi-Level Radar - In Reach, the radar worked slightly different. You could see if people were above or below you. This “perk” would add an antennae to the back of the spartan to show other players which perk they’re using. The default radar would only show faded red dots, not indicating whether or not the enemy was above or below you.
Anyways, just some quick thoughts. I hope we get more info on these perks soon, because it’s killing me having to wait to find out. I know I miss oldschool Halo where we didn’t have to worry about AA’s, perks, and loadouts-- But dealing with this from an “It’s gonna happen” approach, these are some ideas.
Now, what are your thoughts on what might be okay to have in the game?
