Whats everyone's speculation on the kind of perks we'll see?

Last night before slumbering into my nightly coma, I was laying in my bed thinking of what kind of perks we might see? Given that these “perks” have not been given any hard background, I was kind of wondering what everyone else’s take on them were?

In my attempts to salvage the image of oldschool halo, I tried thinking up some of my own ideas on what minimalist style perks that 343i could add to the game without completely offsetting the balance. Here’s a few to get us started…

  1. Thruster Pack - Unlike the Jetpack which can suspend a player in the air for a few seconds, the thrust pack would act as a high jump. With most 2 thrusts every 15-30 seconds. You could tell who is using this by a graphic visual of a jetpack on the players back.

  2. Sprint - Unlike Sprint in REACH, sprint can only be used in very small bursts. This would still retain some use, as you could evade grenades or bolt behind a wall. Just hoping if Sprint is in the game, that it’s at least tempered way down. Visually, they could be presented with some sort of leg brace or vanilla legs.

  3. Shield Display - In REACH, an enemies shield condition is visually displayed in a layer of golden cheese. I am hoping that this feature is included into vanilla gameplay, but if “perks” have to be implemented, I wouldn’t mind this being just one of them. Perhaps a small helmet attachment to show it’s being used?

  4. Extra Ammo Storage - Much like what you would see in REACH, where the spartan chest piece “Assault” would appear on players to show they could carry a few extra rounds. However, IF this was implemented I wouldn’t want to see anything more than a 50% increase in storage capability.

  5. Multi-Level Radar - In Reach, the radar worked slightly different. You could see if people were above or below you. This “perk” would add an antennae to the back of the spartan to show other players which perk they’re using. The default radar would only show faded red dots, not indicating whether or not the enemy was above or below you.

Anyways, just some quick thoughts. I hope we get more info on these perks soon, because it’s killing me having to wait to find out. I know I miss oldschool Halo where we didn’t have to worry about AA’s, perks, and loadouts-- But dealing with this from an “It’s gonna happen” approach, these are some ideas.

Now, what are your thoughts on what might be okay to have in the game?

no drop shield, confirmed in the sparkast.

besides, everything that everyone is “worried” about is the least of it. They are going to be tons of new stuff in the game. The HUD is going to work like atlas. you wont need to guess when power weapons spawn, they will show up on the HUD.

Thanks for that bit of info. I was going to listen to the podcast but I got busy and forgot.

I can’t say that I’m disappointed about it not being in H4, but it always was a great tool for CTF in H3.

Speculation, as the topic header suggests. Why wouldnt they implement atlas into the HUD. It seems logical that they would do it. I theorize the HUD is going to far more advanced than previous HUD’s

I hope it;s something not to game breaking like an extra grenade or extra ammo or even that thruster to serv as a double jump ability.

I’m serious… :S

these perks are going to be tied to your armor pieces, go with default armor, no perks.

i see, i am sure they will have “classic” playlists, hopefully enough to please that facet of the community. You know there is always TU’s to put these features in the game laster.

It disables everyone else’s perks too.

Sounds good to me. But I think like jumping 2/3 times the hight of a normal jump will be enough. I agree with the amount of thrusts you have (2 every 30 seconds).

Sprint is confirmed. Though I didn’t saw a symbol on the HUD for sprint in the Halo 4: First Look. That’s wierd, maybe you can always sprint? They said it will be the fastest Halogame so that could be true. I like the idea, but why does it need to be visible that you can sprint?

Quite useless in my opinion. Showing the shield of the enemy would not affect the gameplay at all.

You mean the magazine is bigger or just the amount of bullets? I think some of your “perks” (they aren’t even perks, 343i never said it; only the media calls it perks) are really unbalanced. This one would be waay better than number 3…

Interesting one. I think I like this one even though I don’t know how the hell this would work when you want a clear and easy to understand radar.

Your “perks” are quite unbalanced. I would like to just see Invincibility, Overshields, Health Generator, etc and some altered, balanced ones.

Isnt it the funniest thing that even though 343 said they are not perks and that they dont act anything like CODS system, the community is still calling them perks? Am i missing something here or are people just unable to grasp when a developer disproves false info ?

It’s what the media called them, the name stuck. Why does it bother you so much?

I hope it’s just armor parts like a visor attachment that visually identifies grenades or something.

Maybe sprint = Armor leg part that causes you to run at incredible speeds (sprint), but for the extra power, it draws from your shields. Basically, sprint drains your shields.

3RD-armor attachment makes your armor more resistant to melee attacks or something, I dunno.

Because I see to many threads when i come here talking about “Perks” and perks have nothing to do with halo 4. I dont understand the logic behind “The name just stuck” The name is wrong, 343 said perks arent in halo 4 yet people keep going with it. Its just annoying lol But anyway i threw this off topic i guess i will just avoid those kind of threads.

I thought I heard somewhere that they were implementing some type of armor attachments that enhance gameplay? I could be wrong, and maybe it’s just the media telling us that like some people have stated.

If this is true, than what statement did someone say that implied “perks?”

They said no bubble shield but they might be pulling a robert bowling by saying no last stand but then having final stand.
