Why is this even a topic worth discussing? If a player wants to wield a fully-automatic weapon, then that’s their choice, not yours. You can’t expect everyone to toss aside their Assault Rifles and stick with a BR the entire game. Automatic weapons have a purpose too, that’s why they’re in the game.
A solution to this “problem” is to either get good or play smart and don’t combat an SMG with a BR in close quarters. That’s why BR’s and DMR’s are classified as medium to long range weapons while AR’s and SMG’s are short to medium range. Seriously, all it requires is common sense.
The problem with previous Halo games is that the BR was always superior to the Assault Rifle and SMG. If you didn’t have enough skill to wield the BR, then you got dominated in matchmaking; however, this problem was fixed in Halo 5. The AR, SMG, Storm Rifle and Suppressor were all tweaked so that they are more effective against other weapons. I really like this change, as automatic weapons now cater to both newcomers and veterans alike. This gives players of all skill types a chance online, and giving others a chance is the right thing to do.
So please, stop bringing up this dumb complaint and quit rage-posting.
Some think there is some sort of merit badge or something by using precision weapons all the time. They feel the only skill to the game is accuracy with them and knowing the map, what weapon will be more effective for a situation isn’t skill. I still say the weapon balance for H5 is the best out of all the Halos. All weapons are actually useful now. I have no qualms about using what ever weapon that best suits the situation.
Not sure why you thought another thread was neccesary when there is a good one with some well thought out ideas going on right here. Try reading some of the posts on why some poeple think autos are OP and do not reward kill and decrease the skill gap. The only one rage posting I see…is you.
Someone will come along and tell you that the skill required to be good with an automatic is barely any compared to being good with a precision weapon.
They’ll tell you it has nothing to do with being beaten by an automatic inside its intended niche range, but that it’s so easy to use an automatic compared to a precision weapon.
It’ll probably be said so that the input required from an automatic is less than that of a precision weapon, for the same result.

I completely agree. I dig how every weapon has its purpose and not one is left in the dust.

They have more range and accuracy than ever before, and it’s pretty annoying to be constantly pelted with bullets that don’t ever seem to miss, even at mid range.
The AR in Reach could kill you pretty quick at close range but at mid it’s TTK increases fairly significantly, and it could be easily beaten by a skilled Magnum or DMR user at both ranges.
There’s always been a social stigma against auto rifles in Halo. People believe that auto rifles require less skill because all they do is involve aiming and holding down the trigger, whereas precision rifles like the BR take more skill because they require at least 1 headshot to have the best TTK they can and the trigger needs to be pulled repeatedly. Not entirely false, but not entirely true either.
While it does take more effort to aim for the head and pace your trigger pulls, it’s not a big difference. I think that some people dislike the fact automatic weapons are useful because they’re used to Halo being a game were such weapons are just bad and even near-useless compared to precision weapons. They’re probably used to using a BR to beat assault rifles and SMGs almost 100% of the time.

So why is the Magnum and DMR being entirely superior to the AR in all ranges a good thing? It’s exactly the same as an auto fan saying the AR should beat the DMR in all ranges.
Adapt to use autos in close range or die. It’s that simple. If using prescision weapons takes so much skill, you should have enough skill to use the “noob” AR.

They weren’t “entirely superior”; They COULD be superior in the hands of a skilled user as I said, but it was still wholly possible to be killed with the AR pretty easily at said ranges.
It’s just annoying to have so many different guns that can slaughter you in a second or less. The AR served it’s niche in Reach (and even 3). You want something that can melt at close range in that game? Get a Sword or a Shotgun. Balance was just way simpler in the past.

I think the previous person above you was asking them that if the magnum and dmr could win against the AR in all ranges is that a good thing. Looks like they put tone of voice in their words and it was lost in the text.
In Halo 5, a Sword or Shotgun is not on a real timer. It is set to on death or deletion of the item it will respawn after 30 seconds. (death meaning out of ammo) This is one of the reasons why you need to have a decent close to mid range weapon when you spawn in. It isn’t fantastic and the only weapon with a longer TTK is the Plasma Pistol (assuming you are a perfect shot in all cases which no one can hold) The only way to truly balance weapons is to make the weapons you spawn with be balanced with each other and give them the range specific. Pistols cover Med-Long range really well but don’t have quite as good of range as the DMR/BR and the DMR/BR cover Med-Longer(lazy way to say its longer than pistol but not as long as sniper) I am adding both of these as they are low level Req loadout weapons(yeah I know the DMR is a Req 6 but it’s damage is balanced with the Pistol). Lastly is the SMG with a faster TTK at close range but its damage drastically drops off when heading into medium range. (as it should being a req 4 loadout niche range weapon)
They can kill that’s why.
Because everything is useful not just the br, all other weapons except the br are op.
They’ll talk about skill but won’t care about learning distances or what is the best range for each weapon. They just figure br should be the only useable weapon.

The BR is OP as well, it ruins BTB and makes open maps unplayable. This game is not “balanced”.
It’s not about not wanting to learn ranges; It’s about this game having so many unnecessary fluff guns and giving everything insane range.

I am with you in the kill times being too quick. I liked Halo over CoD and the others of because it was a thinking man’s game. Now it’s ever closer to twitch reflexes that dominate a lot games.
My post came off hostile, and it wasn’t my intent.

How about no.
The AR, a MINIMAL EFFORT GUN, can BEAT the pistol in CQC. It shouldn’t be able to do this, unless it had CE levels of bloom. Autos should never become a Gold 1’s method of beating an Onyx, except that is essentially what they are. Bullet hoses.

It’s not about using “SUPAR LEET SK!LLZ” to beat somebody, it’s about being smart and using the right weapon for the situation.
See, before Halo became a one-gun game in Halo 3, it used to not only be about how good you are at aiming, but also how smart of a player you were. A good player, especially in Halo 1, knew which weapon was right for the job at hand, and prepared adequately. If you’re playing on a small map, then it was wise to equip an automatic weapon like the AR or Plasma Rifle, since it would undoubtedly come in handy. If somebody isn’t as smart and tries to use a precision weapon in close combat, they were not prepared for the situation and should lose.
See, Halo is not just an ego competition to see who has the best “effort”/“skills”/Idon’tknowwhat, but a game where you have to use this thing called your brain to win. If you’re going to try to use a precision weapon that’s suited for medium-long range in close combat, then perhaps you deserve to lose against that so-called “MINIMAL EFFORT GUN” for using MINIMAL COMMON SENSE.
