Now since Escharum is leading the Banished in Halo Infinite, I was thinking that Escharum might be Atriox’s puppet leader as Atriox is the founder and leader of the Banished. What do you think? Is Escharum, the Banished puppet leader?
I think he’s probably just another Lieutenant, Captain, or General like Pavium and Voridus were. I’m not a lore -Yoink!- so maybe Pavium and Voridus are more up there but I think Escharum is probably just the commander of forces in that area.

Or maybe possibly an apprentice within the Banished but the ranks you mentioned are also possibilities as well.
Escharum specifically states that he is fighting for the glory of Atriox. Escharum as a puppet wouldn’t say that. He’d claim to be the leader, but secretly be doing Atriox’s bidding. In light of Escharum’s statements about Atriox, I’d say he’s another leader within the Banished like Decimus, Pavium, or Voridus. Only Escharum is looking a bit stronger than them to me since he’s actually in the galaxy rather than being stuck on the Ark like we last saw of those other leaders (except Decimus of course).

Most likely Escharum used to be a lieutenant like Pavium and Voridus, but after Atriox and many of the senior Banished leaders became trapped on the Ark, he rose up through the ranks and became the stand-in leader for the Banished. We know he’s doing a pretty damn good job at leading, too, considering they apparently wiped the floor with humanity above Zeta Halo, and that they remain a significant faction after Cortana’s uprising.
Considering how loyal he seems to Atriox’s vision I would assume it would be similar in which he is brutal to all his enemies but welcomes challenge when it arrives.

Which begs the question on how Cortana views the banished. Will she see them as a threat or an ally?
