I have a few predictions about what we’ll be testing in Halo Reach, but I could be wrong. Take this all with a grain of salt.
Like last time with the MCC Insider Program (now just the Halo Insider Program, funny enough), we’ll be doing scheduled play dates to run server tests. That’s to be expected. Another given is running the UI and intelligent delivery system through its paces (checking for spelling errors, bugs, freezing, latency, file corruption, language options, etc).
Something I’m still not sure of is if we’ll be testing custom games, like the last few flights of MCC Insider, although given Reach relies heavily on custom game options, I’d expect to test them at some point.
Customization and Progression might also be focuses of the tests (making sure it isn’t too fast or too slow unlocking armors and ranking up), but I wouldn’t bet on that just yet.
My take
Content delivery (possibly forcing a patch or 2 to test Steam’s patching system), UI and K+M control (it’s being mentioned A LOT in the communications) and earlier game stability (as in, game does not crash on launch if you have certain hardware or software).
I would say at some point we’ll be testing Firefight on PC, but with it being paid DLC I’m not 100% for certain on it. But I would hope the test every piece of the game in one way or another.
I hear it will mainly be testing the clicking of keys and the pushing of buttons. I could be wrong though since I base this theory on absolutely nothing.
Scope of alpha / beta tests can change wildly between independent tests, bug hunting, giving feedback on how something feels, making sure graphics or animations look/play right on all systems with differing specs. Even trying to reproduce a bug found internally to attempt to narrow down what’s causing it. Could even be used to try to check for edge case bugs like trying to break the UI or systems with weird input options. We won’t know until we get the invitations.

It’s only just occurred to me how weird it’s going to feel playing reach on KB+M. Makes it all the more exciting though!
i think it will be about smoothing out and testing of the mouse and keyboard as well as testing the new online matchmaking overlay i would think since we don’t really know what is gonna be possible on the steam side

On PC, Microsoft/343 aren’t splitting the game into Multiplayer and Campaign+Firefight, everything will be one package on the PC version. So we might see Firefight flighting on PC.

Derp. Thanks for correcting me. Sorry, I didn’t have my daily dose of 2XP Mountain Dew and Doritos.
I can’t wait for it. The only Halo game I’ve been able to play for a while is Halo 2. I own the disc for it so I’ve been playing that for a while now. Only downside to running it on win 10 is that if I have my screen res. Higher than 1280x720 Itll lag a bit.(don’t know if it was just cuz it was an old game or just the type of monitor I have.)

It’s a well known issue with Halo 2 Vista, to fix it you need to force v-sync for Halo 2 in your graphics card control panel.
