whatr do you guys think of halo 5 beta so far.

Curious what other people think.

I have played one game. I didn’t care for the map too much (Empire maybe?) and the vibration in the triggers was really throwing me off because I wasn’t expecting it.

I’m also undecided about aiming down the sights. It’s kind of cool. At least the AR is decent now.

It feels cheesy as all hell.

The Spartan intros and outros where the teams look like athletes walking onto a field is ridiculous. The announcer is toned down from his over the top Halo 4/Halo 2a tone of voice, but is still not as toned down as he should be. The thrusting makes the game feel more like a game of cat and mouse. The ground pound is just silly, and prevents you from crouch-jumping. And for some reason, there are no covenant weapons other than the sword.

The energy shield recharge has switched from a low-pitched tone to a high-pitched beep for no good reason.
The shape of the energy sword has been changed for no good reason.
The energy sword fills your screen with a distracting white haze.
zooming in with guns now switches to an aim-down-sight view, filling your screen with a distracting gun image.

After the botched MCC launch, I had already decided that H5 will not be getting a pre-order. And unless the game undergoes a massive overhaul from this beta, it may not even get a purchase from me.

I really enjoy the gameplay and the spartan abilities are nice addition while still being balance. The autos seem a bit to overpowered in terms of range and a little bit of damage. The kill cams are unnecessary in my opinion and the maps could use some work but overall very good game.

I don’t like the music that they play after I die each time. It’s really annoying.

I, too, am wondering where the covenant weapons are, but maybe they just didn’t include them for the beta?

Also, the come at me bro spartans at the beginning and end of the matches are going to be toned down for the actual release. I read that on another thread here earlier. I think they’re stupid though.

I also really don’t like how the characters call out what they’re doing. It bugs me.

I had forgotten about the music. That bugged me while playing too. Background music is not needed whatsoever in a multiplayer match.

As for the killcams. I dislike them, but wouldn’t mind them if they didn’t prevent you from seeing medals or whatever else that would normally pop up. For instance, there were a few times where I got a grenade off just before dying. Because of the killcam, I didn’t know if my grenade killed my target or not. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn’t. In the old games, we’d still see the medal pop up to let us know, whether that medal be a ‘kill from beyond the grave’ or just a regular ‘grenade kill’.

I really really like it a lot so far. it has a few things and vibration needs to be togglable… but its fun.

I really like it, but there’s a few things I don’t like such as the kill cam. The only time I wish they would show the kill cam is for the winning kill only. Also,i need an mute all option. Last but not least i wish there was some BTB in there but other than that the beta is great.

It’s fun enough I guess. It’s not “Halo” or at least not what most people who have been around the series for the last decade or more think of when you say Halo. If you can look at it as something completely different it has its positives for sure.

Aiming is more difficult which is nice, thrusters add a nice bit of skill, clamber isn’t as game breaking as I thought although I still don’t care for it.

The things I dont like have a lot to do with the controls. Things just seem a bit clunky. Like they are trying to mash too many abilities onto the controller. I hate the idea of SCUFs but I can see them becoming heavily used with these controls.

I still think sprint is doing Halo a huge injustice. The base movement is comically slow because of it and it does the opposite of its intention (to speed up gameplay).

Flinch needs to go asap.

AR and SMG are a tad overpowered given how easy they are to use. I like them being viable options but they just seems too viable atm given their ease of use.

I dont mind the ADS on the AR and smg but the Pistol, DMR, Snipe and BR it is extremely jarring and takes way to long to scope in. Even if they sighted in as fast as classic Halo I still think the new scope models get in the way and I really wish there was a toggle to turn on classic zoom.

Nades are too powerful. I like that they do a lot of damage but the damage drop off radius is to small. The damage drop of needs to be increased significantly so they are super powerful when placed well but are not ultra forgiving if not placed well.

Netcode/Lag Compensation needs improvement. Lots of instances of dying behind walls right now. That Im thinking is more of a beta type issue that will get ironed out.

Ground Pound needs to be moved off the left thumbstick for bumper jumper. Not being able to crouch jump is super annoying.
