Did the Covenant executed all brutes or banish them?
After the Covenant fractured into the remnants, the Brutes left and just lived on different planets. Some packs have even tried to make peace treaties with humans.
What do you mean by “Covenant”?

This, essentially. The Jiralhanae didn’t seem to try and create any New Covenant. The Sangheili did start many remnant factions, but the Brutes more than likely tried to avoid them, due to tensions after the Great Schism still being so high.
They went to Halo Wars 2.
But really, they’ve been fighting the Sangheli in the Great Schism and are even caught up in their own conflicts. Of course this is a background detail until 343i wants to bring it back to our attention.
Most are either fighting elites or eachother on numerous different worlds, fighting for resources after being plunged into a famine. A small fraction live relatively peacefully. Then there are the handful of packs in hiding who have been building their strength.

All I know is that we need more Brutes in the lore.
Like other Covenant species, the Brutes were pretty divided after the fall of the Covenant. Some continue to serve in various Sangheili factions (Spartan Assault & Spartan Strike), some serve/lead Brute-centric Covenant factions (The Return), some are working towards alliances and peace with other species (Halo Escalation), and other still are just doing their own thing (Kilo-5 books).
Do you think they will come back in another (current story) game. Because i love butchering brutes
