whatever happened to dual wielding?

Did it just become overpowered? They could increase accuracy and recoil until it is balanced.

In case you didn’t realize, they made this game just like every other shooter. COD doesn’t have dual weild smg so of course the new Halo game can’t.

I don’t know but I’d wager some people think that its useless.

In halo 2/3 i thought that it wasn’t useless.

I’m thinking it would be a balance issue. Sure you could increase the recoil and decrease the accuracy until they are “balanced”, but at SMG range, I don’t think that method of balancing would matter all that much because you’re so close anyways. Also, if its not dual smg’s all you would ever see is the noob combo. At every range.

They took it out in Reach, which is now kinda old. So i don’t think it is trying to “keep up with the times”

It all comes down to balanceing. It’s not that they can’t do it, it would just be more difficult for 343 to do it right now. It will eventually work its way back into the games.

They should let you with pistols.
Maybe a spray type of close combat

Its probably because of the noob combo being way way easier with it, that plus duel needler, stuff like that that just destroyed with little to no effort throwing off balance

I imagine it’s a nightmare to balance. The gun is either useless by itself or overpowered when paired with something else. The smg in halo 3 was a piece of junk.

At a competitive level (which Halo 5 seems to be pushing for), dual wielding was useless compared against a BR.

Duel wielding was only good in the campaign. Outside of that, yeah it was pretty useless.

I enjoyed it, especially duel wielding smg’s.

I liked to use the plasma pistol to slow the shields and the magnum.

Sarah Palmer is the only Spartan that currently has security clearance for dual wielding. Duh.

Could you imagine me using a plasma pistol and a regular pistol? There’s the anwser. Duel wielding didn’t work for every gun, but if the right person used their smarts, it could be tough to combat. In h5s case, it’d be overpowered unless they decreased certain weapons, primarily automatics like the SMG and needler. However, if they do that, then they make those weapons not so viable like previous halo games did. It’s either duel wielding or viable automatics if you ask me, and I think h5 has the perfect balance when compared to any other halo game.

Balancing was always an issue, they either have to make the weapon on its own underpowered, overpower the duel wield weapons, or make it that duel wielding doesn’t double the damage, I believe they did a bit of all 3, the problem is it never felt quite right, and ultimately a BR was usually preferable.

I think the main reason was the number of mechanics, you can only have so many in one game, due to both the number of buttons on a controller, and the amount one person can focus on, equipment in 3 was a big factor, but when you introduce armour abilities there is a problem, there isn’t really room for both, same with everything they added in 4, and the spartan abilities in Halo 5.

Also whilst duel wielding was around we were doomed to have a rubbish magnum, I would take the Reach, 5 or CE magnum over duel wielded 2 or 3 magnums any day, so down with duel wielding!!!

Dual wielding CE Pistol. :open_mouth:

They didn’t handle it right in Halo 3. People didn’t care about it enough.

I want it balanced and brought back. I don’t think it was broken in H2 Anniversary mp.

I can answer this really well.

Bungie stated in their vidoc for Halo Reach that they decided to remove dual wielding as a choice in design as dual wielding took away two of the three core mechanics of combat in game; guns, grenades, and melee. When you dual wielded, players lost the ability to melee or throw a grenade without sacrificing the other gun.

In further analysis with their reasoning, and most likely their thought from extensive playtesting, players wouldn’t use heavy power weapons, grenades, or melee when they should because they became determined to keep and use their dual wielded weapon. Players would no longer melee at point blank range, or even swap and use their shotgun, but instead spray with their SMG and Plasma Rifle.

It was ultimately done to keep gameplay engaging and fun.
