What you think over parts w/o regenerating shields in Halo 4?
I personaly like playing ODST with Black Eye. (Melee to abreact yourself >:p) … Seems more realistic to me if you don´t have NRG-Shields.
So I come to the idea, what about some small, selected parts where you don´t have regenerating shields. You have shields but they don´t regenerate as long as you are in the selected area. (Not so sadistic like in Halo 1 where you lose 100% shields and the flood appears on mass).
This would give you a bit the tactic feeling of the (good,) old FPS back.
Could be some protected Forerunner Structure with Shield-Regenerating-Blocker or whatever. May be with some collectable manual shield-regenerater (like a healthpack for shields, as long as you are in the evil area.) If you leave the area, shields reset to normal and regenerate.
It should be only in 1 Level (not more!); but I think it would be nice for some variation.
What you think? If you keep it balanced, its a good idea, or?
What made Halo Halo was the novelty of a shield that would regenerate once you took cover. I think it would be interesting to have a small section where it couldn’t recharge, but not for the sake of going for a “Good Old FPS Feeling”, because that simply wouldn’t be Halo.
Mass Effect 2 had a mission where staying in sunlight would cause your shield to deplete. It could be something like that I suppose.

I now the fact, that Halo was the first game with regenerating shields. And I totaly agree with you.
A funny think, that I still have in mind is:
The game Fear 3 has regenerating health, too. But its kinda boring… no wait: its even bad balanced in gamespeed aspects.

Yes, regenerating shields (/health) is one important part of Halo, but its still not everything!
Sounds a bit paradox, but I think Halo is (now) more than just 2 or 3 simple gameplay aspects. There are many things that make a Halo game to a Halo game (and I guess everyone has his own balance point). From the epic landscape over the gamespeed to the storyline or the multiplayer-modes.
But: the core is (in my oppinion) the complete well balanced Gameplay-Speed. That speed is not only supported by shields; also entering vehicles, weapon changes etc. are part of this.
I realy would love to see some small parts w/o regenerating shields. Iam sure if it is balanced well, we all will see: Halo is more than just regenerating shields. It can also stand without this keystone. And that would be a step forward… even if it sounds paradox :p.
(Oh, don´t be afraid: I like the complete Halo-Thing. So I speak here over not more than one levelpart. Even not a whole level. Just want to create some variety.)
