What would you like from the new map designs?

Enjoying the new game very much, but it’s not so much the map size that’s a problem, it’s the lack of graphical variety.

Maps like Zanzibar, Beaver Creek etc had varied topography and natural features like beaches, trees, water, caves etc, and arenas like this are lacking at the moment.

Some of the new maps look great, but everything feels a bit square and artificial at the moment, and it’s mainly down to trying to cater for the new Vault ability. Personally hope some of the new maps incorporate more natural features into them, as Halo for me was always about the blend of futuristic and ancient. Also feels as though the classic maps of the past managed to blend the artificial with the natural far better than in 4 or 5.

Any thoughts?

The thing about Beaver Creek is that it was a tiny, tiny, tiny, did I mention tiny? Little hole in the ground that had for some reason 2 bases and a small creek that came from no where and went no where.

I want maps that back off from human facilities. It’s starting to get dull. It also wouldn’t hurt to have more covenant themed maps

Beaver creek was like rectangle incarnate, but I get what you’re talking about. Most of the maps that have nature and the artificial are only in warzone. It’d be nice to see more nature oriented maps in Arena, I feel like they’re all in just metal environments

Oh, and the map size is totally an issue, there are not big enough maps, or at least not enough maps that aren’t GD mazes.

Would like more large snow levels, thats the “Halo” look for me! Like Sidewinder/Avalanche!

Also, more Covenant looking maps. Seems to be too many “human factory” levels

Agree with this.

The BTB maps should solve this issue in the short run.

In the long run I would like to see bigger Arena maps

The maze aspect is definitely an issue.

There also should be fewer areas with half a dozen points of entry; it makes it very hard to defend yourself and leads to too many cheap kills.

An updated and bigger version of Powerhouse from Reach with the capability to used vehicles would be awesome IMO.

Make it happen 343.

I think the maps lack a focal point as well, that place everyone wants to hold and battle to defend, like the gallery in Ivory Tower or the towers on Ascension. A lot of the best Halo arenas had obvious holding points, with the power weapon placement forcing you to take a risk and leave it. I feel these are lacking at the moment and bigger maps would allow for more of them.

At the moment team play revolves more around overwhelming with numbers rather than positioning.

I wholeheartedly agree. Most of the Halo 5 maps look samey and boring, even if they’re fun to play. They almost look Forged. Halo has always had vast, open, natural maps with canyons and rivers and waterfalls, grassy green hills and dunes of sand. None of the launch maps in Halo 5 have that kind of terrain, and it’s disappointing.

The maps bearly have an identity now. Can you imagine falling in love with Guardian or Sandtrap if all they were made of was gray UNSC walls and boxes? Some variety in Arena would be nice.

More covenant style maps. more graphical detail in the maps. some of them do look rather bland where others look good. possibly more scenery added around the maps. more weapon variety added to maps. not just the same base weapons you can pick up.

Absolutely.

Feels like they start each map with the buildings rather than starting some with the terrain first and incorporating the man-made.

Completely agree with your post! These maps don’t have focals point. Need abandon map style

Yep - it also means games can swing back and forth. I remember coming back from 10 - 15 points down on Halo 2/3 just by gaining control of the right part of the map. If you’re 10-15 points down in 5, you know you’re almost always screwed.

-We need more “50 Yard Line” style maps, where making a push past mid is a big deal. We kind of have that with Coliseum and Fathom, but I’d like to see more maps like Narrows and Sanctuary where there’s a bigger emphasis on it.

-More exotic and varied locations. I feel like Halo 2/3 were the best at this. Flood/Forerunner/Covenant/More niche UNSC palletes and unique skyboxes

-Give me an over the top jungle jim map for clamber and other abilities. The Rig almost hits that spot, but Yellow Corner and Engine are kinda meh in that regard.

-Inversely give me a map where the usefulness of Spartan Abilities is muted. Just to mix it up and force players to perhaps think a bit more with how to mix things up.

-More crouch jumps

-Bigger 4v4 maps. Just one or two, though. We need the Valhalla of Halo 5.

-GUARDIAN REMAKE

All of this.

Especially more crouch jumps, I miss all the little nooks and crannies you could get into if you really knew the map well. I hope they cater for all this without relying on forge maps.
