What would you do to become big in the Halo Community?

Machinima, gameplay, forge, GFX?

What would you do?

Forge, since i love creating maps. Even when i posted great gameplays i never really got noticed on any game. So i would give forging a chance at getting big before any of the rest.

Getting Big In The Halo Community

YouTube Videos

Hmm Well lets see since 1996 back in the Quake era I made levels / maps, Skins for character models, Web sites, Custom Graphics, Textures, And game mods and Bots…

As for Halo Reach 51 maps / levels.

Am I known?

I would forge awesome maps. And the machinima sounds fun, but I know I could never do it. :frowning:

I’d make MJOLNIR armour out of steel.

> I’d make MJOLNIR armour out of steel.

That sounds pretty awesome. I want pictures.

I try to do everything. I do commentarys, map reviews (Forged Maps) i put gameplays and clips. Going to be doing some montages soon. And i also want to get into making machinimas shorts

I try to post as much as I can in the forums, I’m also a top contributor on yahoo answers (99% halo answers), and I have a blog with news, reviews, etc.

(i need to figure out a new name for it… :P)

simples, just get to know the right people.

id go for the unlisted option… Screenshots!

  • lots of places for your stuff to show up now that i think about it, lol. Plus anyone can enjoy a good picture, but not everyone can like something like a machinima if their sense of humor differs; being extremely good is difficult & even more difficult to get noticed; forging a map that everyone likes is next to impossible, people dont even like all the professionally built maps; although with screenshots ppl dont really care to find out who makes it :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’ve always wanted to make a machimina so…

I am pretty good at making T shirts and Hats! I am making my Own HWP sweat shirt as we speak to represent at the next Halo fest! <3

Publish the most breath-takingly intimate, startlingly beautiful maps the community has ever seen…

So far, not going as well as I’d like. But not bad.

Don’t wanna hurt your feelings, but I never heard of you.

OT: Post a lot and make something unique which nobody else even thought about so I become big. However, I still didn’t think of anything so unique.

i used to love doing machinima in halo 2…but mythica went down, and youtube didn’t exist so I lost everything…but i might start again…i dunno

Halo: Engaged

Still need to write up my finale as well

Sort of already made my mark but I think the finished version will make just as many waves. More than happy that the people I based the characters off loved it. That’s a win/win in my book =)

I have been trying to get noticed in the Halo/gaming community. I am the founder and creator of a gaming community called “Dark Hole Games (DHG)”. Now you see people with DHG in their gamertag, thats not us. What Dark Hole Games does is we do “DHG Top Maps of The Week” which is released on our website and youtube channel every friday; we do full length game reviews(longer than the mainstream websites do), share news, events, do commentaries, design map packs for everyone to download for free, we have forums and more!

Feel free to check us out

We hope to be at least known throughout the community someday

I’m the leader of the Machinima team, TEAMHALOSWAT. we’re trying to get big/known by the community as well. if you wanna check it out, just go to: http://teamhaloswat.blogspot.com/

everything’s going to start slow, but it gets better after a while. you have to be committed and make stuff people want to see/never seen before.

getting your stuff out there is another thing. everything helps. forums, bs angel’s blog posts, halo.bungie.org, etc…

your best bet is bs angel’s blog posts. at least 1,000-2,000 people check out Machinimas, if not more. if your vid (assuming Machinima/commentary, tips&tricks, etc…) gets on there and 2,000 people hit that link to your vid, and if 500 people like, and 250 people sub, then your on a good start.

now for doing Machinimas, it has to be unique. if you’re doing a comedy series, don’t make it like Red vs. Blue. everybody loves Red vs. Blue, and most people are not going to leave it to watch a rip off of it (even if that series is just as funny). my team’s main Machinima series, Requiem, is unique. yeah, it’s about Zombies. but it’s not about chillin in a bunk the whole time and scavenging for weapons with no real story behind the virus. the people have a purpose, good storyline, backstories, a place to go, and a mysterious story behind the virus, and good cliffhangers (everybody hates them, but in a good, loving way) that leave people wanting more. now we’ve noticed people love Top 10’s. our other little series, SpaceSports, does a Top 10, but about Halo’s sports (Grifball, Race, Haloball, etc…) and sometimes with interviews with famous (we mean fake) Halo sports athletes. this makes it unique.

Commentaries and Tips&Tricks are usually all the same. really can’t help ya much there. if you ain’t big there, you gonna get the views, but don’t expect too much other than that.

now I don’t do pictures, but here’s what i got to say: i think everybody that ends up Halo Waypoint at least looks at the screenshots posted on bs angel’s blog posts. great pics can be kinda easy, but making them unique is a completely other. remember the Elite version of ODSTs picture recently? it wasn’t used by special ways like most people do, but it was unique and that made it noticable.

now I’ve talked too much about bs angel’s blog posts. yeah, it’s a great way to get noticed, but you can’t just rely on that. go to halo.bungie.org Its a huge Halo community site, and if you’ve got an account there and anything Halo related, they’ll most likely post it there. now find gaming forums. submitting your stuff at different forums can get you just a few more views and maybe a sub (vids) or two (everything counts).

now what about Machinima?.. like as in Machinima.com? don’t rely too much on them. they’ve been leaving Machinimas for some reason and they’re picky about who they make Machinima directors. not saying not to try them, but don’t expect too much (if anything) from them.

how about YouTube? don’t use copyrighted stuff without permission, follow the rules, post enough vids, get the views, and get the partnership (from what I understand)

another thing is knowing the right people. if your friends with Arbiter617 (big Machinima maker on YouTube) or in his group, he’ll probably put your vids on his channel or let people know about your vids. same thing with MLG: some people are pros because they knew T2 or some other pro. knowing the right people sure does help.

now I’ve noticed being involved with your community (once you get it) really helps. look at Bungie, 343i, bs angel, Rooster Teeth, HaloTracker, and ForgeHub. they’re involved with their community and care about them. and that makes their community like them and stay.

now once you have all this, remember this one thing: Hater gonna hate. no matter how good your vids/pics are, people are going to put you down. you gotta ignore this and go what you think is good. now people trying to seriously help and give tips, such as voice acting needs work or camera angles or something, take that into consideration. see what your doing wrong/could be doing better. go to the bigger vids (Machinimas), see what they’re doing and ask yourself and try to notice: why their voice acting is better, why their VO is better, why their camra angles are better, why their characters are better involved with the viewers, etc…

sorry I’ve mostly talked about just vids, but that’s what I and my team do. Hope this helps and good luck with whatever ya decide to go get really noticed in!
