What Would You Add to Firefight?

My thoughts for potential additions:
Across both titles:

  • Each weekly playlist has a Firefight version. This would include:
    • Escalation Firefight - Each wave starts with a specific weapon with Arcadefight buffs and enemy types best suited for that weapon.
    • Anniversary Firefight - Starting with Assault Rifle and Pistols, you only face against Elites, Jackals, Grunts, Hunters, and maybe classic flood.
    • Fiesta - While Fiestafight is already present, this variant with random weapon starts would have no player buffs and be played on Heroic.
    • Shotty Sniper - Only the Arcadefight weapon buffs would be present, but player buffs are absent. Grunt Birthday Pary would absolutely be on.
As for Grifball, Recon Slayer, and Rocket Race, I have no clue. Maybe the first of the three could be Fistfight, with the last being Rocketfight, but both with tweaks to make them more challenging. There are probably other weekly gametypes out there, but I’ve never been able to find a solid list.
  • Custom Games Browser Support - With all the new additions, it’s very odd that we can’t find Firefight games.
  • More Playlists - It’s great that there are options for fans of arcadefight, but there aren’t many options for the difficult gametypes: Generator Defense, Firefight Versus, and Heroic Gruntocalypse playlists would be nice options (even if they ended up only as weekly gametypes)
  • Vehicle Customization - Each currently excluded vehicle would be selectable for Halo 3: ODST’s Lost Platoon, and all vehicles for Halo: Reach’s Beachhead, Installation 04, and Unearthed. This would also include turret options so players can take a more defensive role.
  • AI Behavior - Halo: Reach had a cut option to allow Brutes and Elites to fight one another, but this option could really benefit ODST further. Schism would have units fight one another, Elites against Brutes against Sentinels against Flood, where Allied would keep them all side-by-side.
  • BOB Firefight Encounters - This one is the most silly but the one I want most of all. Every Elite, Brute, and Elite Flood would have a tiny chance for a white or gold variant. Killing this encounter would grant the Seek and Destroy medal from the Bungie.net days (considered a Legendary Medal that would progress towards the Domination achievement) and grant everyone in that lobby a Spartan Point!
  • All Skull Options - Since the UI is specifically tied to skull options, this could be tricky to configure, but with all the skulls in the Master Chief Collection, there’s a ton of fun potential. The co-op skulls and explosive based skulls are my particular favorite and could make for some fun gametypes.

Halo: Reach

  • Ordnance Customization - There are so many specialty gametypes where players can’t change their gear, so having weapons, armor abilities power-ups, and med-kit options in Ordnance could add really fun variety. While unrealistic, it’d also be cool if ODST drop pods were included in these options.
  • Generator Customization - Players would be able to select the Wolf Spider Turrets (albeit having a similar functionality to standard generators, where they’re activated having shields for a time period before becoming vulnerable again, otherwise, as they are in the campaign, they would not last against the Covenant), or Player Generator Effects, where being in close proximity to a Generator would activate player traits or skull traits. This would give the nearby generator the visual effects used by engineers.
  • More enemy types - Naturally, Drones should be included, but Moa actually had aggressive behaviors unused that could make for a fun encounter as well. Heretic enemy types could fun, but likely wouldn’t be used much due to being drastically harder. Grunts with magnums might be good for Gruntfight or bonus rounds though. Guta could be included, but if they can’t navigate in tight maps, then they could function alternatively as a Waterfront hazard as mentioned earlier here.
  • Lone Wolf - A super common Firefight request, but one that may need level tweaks. Every Firefight game has safe zones for players, where Lone Wolf was intent on leaving you vulnerable, so it’d need a few additions and props to make it less frustrating. It’d also be a good option for Vehicles with all the space it provides.
  • Boons - This option would add Marines, ODSTs, and a light vehicle like a mongoose to the map akin to Installation 04. I think adding weapons how ODST did would undermine the existing loadouts and ammo crate, but Assault Rifles and a Magnum might be a nice addition.

Halo 3: ODST

  • Firefight Versus - Like in Halo: Reach, blue team would consist of Elites players hoping to hinder ODST players. I think they should have the same mechanics as an ODST, without dual wielding and equipment, but have the extra grenade count. They could also use a purple HUD and ODST color options to better fit ODST’s art style. It should feel like a “how Elites would play in ODST”, rather than “Halo 3 Elites in ODST”. Despite borrowing from 3, ODST does have a unique identity.
  • Engineer Defense - Generator defense, but with friendly engineers, these boys (or just one boy, depending on how lore accurate you’re goin’) would offer overshields but need to be protected.
  • More Enemy Types - As mentioned earlier here, new Elite units would benefit gameplay with Stealth Elites and Generals/Zealots, but, while this might be unrealistic, I think porting Elite Rangers from Halo 2 could be REALLY cool. Then every specialty type of Brute would have an Elite parallel, while being different enough to feel new. And akin to Reach, more heretic units using UNSC weapons could be a nice touch.
  • Equipment Starts - The introduction of Flood maps added a cool green mist, but it can hard to see through and the nightvision doesn’t always help, it’d be nice if any sunny maps started the player with the Halo 3 flashlight instead. Halo Online had a sprint option that might work well as an equipment option as well, especially for Lost Platoon. There were other armor abilities, but they might be counter-intuitive to both AI combat and the lesser power of an ODST and may be better preserved elsewhere.

Halo 4?!

  • Include Firefight - Halo 4 was, at one point in development, planned to have Firefight. It’d be cool if it recycled the maps from Spartan Ops and used the player’s loadout systems and multiplayer’s Ordnance system. It doesn’t need to be in-depth or use the crazy custom settings that ODST and Reach have, it just needs to function.
  • Or Include Spartan Ops - If Firefight is asking for too much, it’d be nice if Halo 4 was added to Firefight’s menu, and instead of queueing for a heroic Firefight game, it’d queue for a random heroic Spartan Ops game.
