I had a vision earlier today; a vision of what could fix the matchmaking screw-ups that 343 made while retaining any innovation, the result being perhaps the best fusion of classic and new Halo matchmaking. To start off, 343 made a major mistake (says almost every hardcore competitive Halo player, in case you don’t agree) with their load-out system, but there’s a simple fix that can satisfy both the hardcore fans and the new fans.
So, the fix is simply the removal of precision weapons from the load-outs which then classifies precision weapons as less-effective power weapons (this has always been how Halo was before now, like it or not). To replace all these precision weapons could be the plasma rifle, plasma repeater, SMG, and perhaps a few Promethean automatics.
Why would this fix work? Because the map movement and strategy would be that good ol’ classic halo. There wouldn’t be a bunch of people camping on rooftops or high points sniping you across the map with a weapon WITH WHICH THEY SPAWNED. Face it, the BR and DMR and even the carbine and LR can many times beat-out power weapons, and I could confidently say that they can slay power weapon users three fold than that of automatic users. Knowing this, does it really make sense for Halo that these should be overpowered constants? No, of course not, especially since 343 has tried to buff automatics to be just as good as precision weapons, which is ridiculous and foolish of them. But with precision weapons removed from load-outs, you would still have the option to choose your weapon, secondary, AA, grenade, etc. and that fun customization would still be there in the game.
Really, the implementation of precision weapons into the load-outs was a poor choice and it really did tarnish the Halo experience and it concerns me for the future of the franchise. But if you believe Halo 4 was a step in the right direction, you need to realize that getting camped by a bunch of terrible players with an overpowered weapon is not how Halo should be and it would deeply benefit from a redefinition, and if you deny that it happens, well, it does and I don’t know on what planet you’re living.
I have to respectfully disagree.
For example, I enjoy all the settings of legendary slayer with the exception of no precision weapon loadouts. The on map weapon spawns are on quickly at the start of the match and then you’re simply outclassed based on your spawn weapons.
I don’t enjoy being spawn killed by BR/DMR while all I get is an AR, at distance. With the weapon kill times as fast as they are the AR doesn’t stand a chance against decent players or teams.
If they want AR starts just don’t have precision weapons on spawn, if you want precision weapons then just give them in loadouts. That’s my take on things.
Was getting camped by people with precision weapons in Halo 3 a problem? It never was to me, so unless the maps in Halo 5 are for some reason extremely open leaving you exposed nearly the whole time, I don’t think it would be much of a problem. Plus, the precision weapons in Halo 4 are extremely overpowered anyway, especially with all of the aim assist and bullet magnetism 343 threw in. I can 4-shot someone with the BR almost every time, but in Halo 3 it’s quite rare for me to. If you disregarded Halo 4’s skill cushion trash and made precision weapons on-map spawn weapons, there wouldn’t be much of a problem with getting spawn killed. I would blame 343’s mediocrity more than the load-outs themselves.
People have been sayings this for months. There is no reason you can spawn with the DMR or LR. Their ranges combined with accuracy is stupid, well beyond any previous GOOD Halo game.
Adrift you can DMR from sniper to flag and land every shot. That in my book is not Halo anymore. Even the CR pistol could land shots from base to base in HeH but you had to lead shots and not everything landed (similar to how the BR reacts at this range)
If you’re against dropping them all together, the reticles should be dropped by 1/2, YES HALF. A precision long ranged weapon it’s just a spam weapon, 50% larger than the sniper reticle would be idle for the DMR. Makes it a good long range weapon, but drastically reduces close range combat.
To be honest the only reason why I would argee with this is because the precision weapons are overpowerd in halo 4, to were its way to easy for someone to land a headshot and get 15 points while all the other weapons on give you 10 points. Now what this does in a long term point of view is make people use precision over anything els. Which is extrmly boring with no chaos at all. I love the feel of chaos and the feel of when your under presure. It has that feel that your in real combat when your fighting someone on the battlefield or not. If 343 could make a mode where that took place on the Xbox One I would always play that instead of the same old broing arena gameplay since Halo Combat Evlove.
Loadouts can be fixed like this.
Primary:
Br
Dmr
Carbine
Lightrifle
Secondary:
Ar
Smg
Suppressor
Storm rifle
Armor Ability: Anything
Grenades: Frags
No plasmas, or pistols, because they would only be used in btb/social playlists, the reason there is rifles for secondaries. The plasma rifle isn’t in the loadouts because it’s a more powerful version of the storm rifle, so it’s a map pickup. No perks either…
