I mean yeah you’re locked in, however in assassinations you’re only dead once the shields pop.
Again it’s just a disadvantage to do. It doesn’t really need balanced, you actively choose to pull a humiliation move.

I was once opposed to them but if a majority of the players like them I’ll join that side of the playerbase if it makes it healthier.
Duel Wielding needs to stay gone, even if you could only duel wield two of the same weapon I wouldn’t want it back. It over complicates weapon balancing to an insane amount.
I have no issues with them bring Elites back to players to play as.
Assassinations I’d only want if they allowed us to disable them. I don’t want to ballerina dance around enemies before killing them. I want to get it over with and move on to the next target as fast as possible.
One thing with dual wielding would be if dual wielded weapons were instead a pickup rather than going around the map and picking up two pistols.
The benefit would be that those weapons could be tuned to work for dual wielding, so they won’t be unbalanced.
The next question would be why have two weapons which work the same as one weapon? Well, you could constantly lay down fire. You could make it so there is never a point where your opponent can peek cover.
Down side to dual wielding would be you can’t throw grenades.
Quality of life changes, when you swap weapons you store both weapons and can bring both of them out.
I’d also say when carrying a fusion coil you can still hold one of your dual wielded weapons.
Complications - with weapons flying around, could they get seperated?
Ammo could be a issue.
Would issues arise if you started mixing weapons?
Brief notes on how to make duel wielding work.
Elites: Either keep them out of ranked, or reserve them for Elite specific modes i.e Elite Slayer or Invasion. I love Elites, but they don’t need to be in every mode, especially if they cause balance issues.
Assassinations: Bungie and especially 343 already balanced them, some people just like to complain. From the jump, you could manually choose to backsmack by tapping the melee input. Obviously this wasn’t enough since some players, like myself, would fat finger the button by accident. H5 added the ability to disable animations entirely. Also I believe there was a custom games setting that allowed forgers to disable the setting for special matches.
EDIT: They could also add a “cancel” button that allow you to stop an assassination, but it still kills the player being stabbed. Basically for people who want to use assassinations but still want a way out of fat fingering.
DW: This is one is pretty complicated, but I think the best way is to reserve it for certain weapons. For instance, the SMG is pretty much functionally indistinguishable from the AR. However, you can DW it. I think it could be interesting to place 1 in red base and another in blue base. Players who have the skill and wits to get both SMGs get to enjoy 2x damage for as long has they have the weapons/ammo. Using red pads would limit ammo as well. Something like this concept would be interesting. Simply making a gun Dual-weildable simply because it was small or 1-handed was, evidently, a bad idea.
This is a great idea! Now you don’t have to tweak weapons to compensate. Don’t want DW, then remove the powerup. Also it prevents multiple people from doing it.
The only incentive 343 needs to code them into the game is that they would sell like crazy in the store. If you thought the cat ears brought in money…
Or at least let us do them in Campaign.
Dual weapons should have a few penalties, but no damage penalties:
Playable Elites, now, I think they should be able to make them a similar hit-box to spartans, but if it proves to be unbalanced, do what Halo Reach did and segregate them by race… Why did that feel wrong to say… XD
Assassinations should remain as they were. A big middle finger to the assassinee. I do agree with the whole “bail out” idea, though, until the “point of no return”.
yeah the game is definitely lacking in content like weapons and vehicles but i think halo should be open to add new mechanics, change it up a bit from the regular old point and shoot or at least adds to the shooting part, even bungie knew to do this. while 343 seems to take a few notes from halo 3 with the equipment and add a few of their own ideas, it still just doesn’t feel like much, not enough to excuse the lack of content thats for sure. it’s like we’re still waiting for the rest of the game to release even after they added forge, coop, and mission replay but those things should’ve been here from the start.
I’m happy they brought equipment back in. Just seems like the grapple is so much more positively received than everything else. The repulsor adds to the movement but not by a lot. I think more movement equipment could go a long way.
I don’t think the dual-wieldable guns should be nerfed, that’s something that really bothered me in h3 that h2 did significally better.
I’d say balance all weapons for usage alone and still allow dual wielding in campaign and customs, but not in matchmaking.
I don’t really care for playable elites, but they never bothered me so as long as they’re not available in competetive ranked, it should be fine.
Assassinations don’t really need to be changed in any way. Just have an option to disable them in case people don’t wanna accidentaly hold instead of tap.
It’s just a fun thing, doesn’t break balancing imo
yeah its very useful although it kinda annoys me that it’s like titanfalls yet no one minds it, some people still complain the movement in 5 was copying titanfall when halo virtually had dash and jetpacks way back in reach, before titanfall or even cod had these, but no one seems to be up in arms that halo added the grappleshot like they were when 5 made better use of thrusters, even though its pretty much 1:1 now in infinite.
You’re absolutely right but that’s a terrible reason to prioritise them over the many other things that still need work. It would be a short sighted money grab at the expense of working on things that will improve long term player recruitment and retention.
I mean you could argue they will employ more staff if assassinations are selling like crazy but I think we all know that isn’t how it will play out.
I have no problem with assassinations or selling them in the shop, I just want them to fix quite a few things before they devote the time and effort.
I think playable elites should be in ranked. I also think giving a match composer would solve the fact that skilled players prefer having a meta in the game. While keeping those that like using the rest of the sandbox in other playlists. HCS settings. Ranked settings. Social settings. Then try and figure out which of the 3 belong where. IMO put all 3 in social, and duel wielding and elites in ranked. Then let HCS players decide what fits best in their playlists.
Dual wielding…
I think dual wielding should be limited down to a specific weapon pick up or a set of specific weapons. Such as Dual-SMGs, Dual-Plasma Pistols, Dual-Plasma Rifles(the ones from before Infinite). The dual weapons would be handled as one weapon instead of being interchangeable but they can still fire independently of each other as well. Halo would lose the many variations of the old dual wielding, but it would actually give 343 a reason to add the SMG or Plasma Rifle again without forcing it to be a contender against the other weapons out of no where. Maybe these “dual specific weapons” can also have one-handed variations around the map too, obviously not as effective as it’s dual wield counterpart, but maybe the SMG has an extended clip for it’s one-handed variant and the Plasma Rifle has the Brute upgrade. This would obviously need testing and reloading would be slower and throwing a grenade would also be delayed or blocked depending on the test results.
For some reason in the Halo universe a pistol has to be just as good as an AR or a BR, so ultimately I think the Sidekick is too good for dual wielding now, I think it could become too OP, unless they tweak some stats. Same for Needlers, Manglers and Disruptors.
Playable Elites…
I mean, 343 can retcon pretty much whatever they want, whenever they want, that is clear as day by now. Why don’t they just create a specific Fractures Event “Hologram” Armor Core that can mimic the appearances of Brutes or Elites or maybe even the taller Jackal variants but force them all to be roughly the size of a large Spartan body. 343 could make some big money if they can make this happen.
Assassinations…
These were never really a problem. They were primarily scraped for Infinite because 343 felt that since players mostly turned them off in Halo 5, why waste time, effort and money working on a feature most players turned off. They have already stated that Assassinations might return in the future.
With you on legacy weapons needing duel wielding brother!! Plasma pistol and plasma rifle especially. Love the needler without it though.
You don’t really need to balance dual wield around damage numbers or weapon stats. You can also balance them around scarcity. You put two SMGs on the map, they’ll be fine weapons by themselves already. Now if you pick one up you need to move across the entire map to find the second one, at which point you’ll basically have upgraded your “okay weapon” into a stronger close range assault rifle.
Not saying that this is the best way, but there’s some more ways around it.
You could basically design the SMG as a subpar weapon, then make the dual wield a pseudo-power weapon.
An issue that arises though is dual-wielding of different weapons. Do you allow every “handgun” type weapon to be dual-wielded or no? Maybe, it depends. Perhaps keep it to the SMG or Plasma Rifle and not give it to the pistol, mangler or needler.
Agreed!!! This is a great observation.
So SMG’s, plasma pistols and plasma rifles and maybe some new weapons to duel wield. Just one thing, would we be able to duel wield and sprint in Infinite? Is this mechanically possible? I think it is.
343i would need to actually need to be working on adding all this long before we can start talk about balancing these things.
