It’s been asked before. And 343 has publicly acknowledged that there is an interest in porting Halo: Reach, along with Halo 3: ODST (And probably Halo Wars to some unknown degree). I suppose the question they’re asking themselves & we hope we’re providing the answers if they’re not finding them themselves is; What do we need out of such a port? In all honesty, I don’t think that list is as big a one as one would think. It certainly presents a less labour-intensive project to maintain the apparant annual release ambition post-Halo 5: Guardians.
As far as Halo: The Master Chief Collection has presented, the small number of improvements, most notably the upgrade to 60fps, made to Halo 3 & Halo 4 have been very welcome. And with weapon lowering now online enabled, a not-so-large number of Halo’s playerbase is very happy as a result.
Based on that, I suppose I could present a list of what I, and hopefully most other players, believe a Halo: Reach port to Xbox One would objectively benefit from:
1080p, 60fps performance (Emphasis on the 60fps)
Uncompressed/Less compressed Sound Assets
Dedicated matchmaking servers
Access to existing File Share content from the Xbox 360 release of Halo: Reach (The returning community maps would certainly help negate the issues many players encountered with the multiplayer design, pre-update & post-update)
Weapon Lowering enabled for online use as seen in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Now we’ll move on to a much more subjective list:
Lighting and/or shader improvements as seen in Halo 3 & Halo 4 TMCC Editions (Highly dependant on tech abilities regarding bumping up resolution & frame-rate)
Extended draw distance (Also highly dependant on tech abilities regarding bumping up resolution & frame-rate)
Access to existing Player Rank & Armoury Unlocks if possible (And of course Commendation Progress)
Failing the above, instant access to exclusive Armoury unlocks such as the RECON UA/HUL [3], or all Armoury Unlocks entirely
Implementing a Competitive Skill Rank System, which would circumvent the lack of game reward the above would potentially (Highly subject to what 343 believes provides the most incentive for replaying Halo: Reach, and if the port was released solitary or in a bundle with other ports).
I can’t honestly say anything else myself. There’s not an awful lot that a port of Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach & Halo Wars combined would require to benefit from being ported to the Xbox One (and PC if you really want to dream big).
Here’s hoping that between 2016-2018, with any or all of the previously or about to be mentioned, we’ll see it happen.
I would love to be able to keep all of my original armor unlocks…
I showed my dedication by purchasing the flaming recon. I’d be pretty upset if I still didn’t have that. (Or give it to everyone on Halo 3/Master Chief Collection)

Flaming helmet was given away on Halo 3 around the same time it was Games for Gold. Flaming Helmet is also on TMCC unlocked by default.

So you would want to start again, even if you reached Inheritor the first time?

I could care less about the so called “Ranks” reach had, they were strictly progression. Inhertitor means nothing to me. I care more about my 5 on Master Chief Collection, my 40 on Halo 3, the 30 I had on Halo 2, The 37 I was in Halo Wars. I played Reach because it was fun, not because of it’s so called “Ranks”.
If they were to port Reach they should tag a Halo 2 TrueSkill on it just like they did for MCC and completely drop all exp related ranking. Have two playlist sections, one with Rank and one with nothing. Progression Ranking promotes idling and bad play. I remember Team Training in Halo 2 was one of my most played playlist and it had no rewards for winning, having fun was reward enough.
I would love this but I don’t really know as ODST, Reach and Wars aren’t as ‘famous’ or ‘well-known’ as CE, 2, 3 and 4. Nonetheless it would be awesome to have every Halo game on a single platform.
I hope this happens at some point in the future! And if they do it, they should keep the same ranking system but not have any stats carry over. I want to start from the beginning again, but I guess that’s probably because I’ve been an inheritor for so long. If they release is they should have Grifball, Action Sack, Firefight, and MLG playlists as they were. I would pay $60 for the same game on dedicated servers any day!

I for one wish they would throw out the current system and just put in a true skill system. Currently it’s impossible to judge skill, and I’ve come across countless Inheritors who are just awful. H2’s system is much more logical and rewarding.
