What will make Halo 5 multiplayer thrive?

I’m typing this to give my opinion on the multiplayer standpoint of the future Halo games.
I’m going to try to organize this as much as I can for an easy read, but I can’t promise anything because my thoughts are really scattered on this topic. So grab your coffee, or red bull, and start reading because there is a lot to say.

Playlists

  • Playlists need to be separated into 2 paths, Competitive (Ranked) and Casual (Social).
Remember the day when you played Halo 3? For some this wasn’t too long ago. The thing I LOVED the most about the multiplayer was the split between the casual and competitive players. I feel like future Halo titles need this feature again. Instead of just having two separate modes, like halo 3, 343i needs to implement two completely different multiplayer experiences.

Here is how I think it should be organized.
Ranked
ONE: This should be Classic Halo
When I say, “classic,” I mean CLASSIC. Not Halo Reach, but Halo CE, 2, and 3.

  • Weapons should stay true to the classic settings. Something that I have in mind, as I’m sure everyone else has the same thing in mind, is the 4 shot Battle Rifle. This Battle Rifle was essential to the past multiplayer. This made the gameplay fresh, competitive, fun. You had to have skill to kill someone who is shooting at you. 343i needs to bring back Ture Skill.

  • Along with weapons, shields need to be true to the classic Halo. I’m am happy with what Halo 4 did. I just dont want another Health System.

  • Jump height needs to feel like the “Incredible Hulk jumps.” Jump height helps you jump onto a side ledge and take different tactical path to go behind enemy lines.

  • No ordinances. No Armor Abilities. Maybe no Sprint. My thoughts or wishy washy with sprint.

TWO: Skill System

  • I absolute am 100% sure that Halo needs a True Skill ranking system. I probably shouldn’t open my big mouth just yet with CSR coming around the corner, but Halo NEEDS this ranking system. I think that Halo 5 should have your rank shown like Halo 3. You want to feel badass with your 50 flashing off to the world. What is more impressive than a 50 is a 50 that has been reset. I was skeptical about ranks may be reset over a period of time, but now I like the idea. This limits the black market selling of level 50 accounts. We all got the late night messages from squeaky preteens offering to sell level 50 in SWAT. This ranking system should only be based on kills. NOT XP

Social
ONE: Future Halo
When I say, “Future,” I mean Halo 4 and how it will progress into future games.
I’m not going to type as much as I did for ranked. Partly because my eyes are getting heavy and partly because there isn’t much to be said.

  • This needs to be the Halo that many, many Halo players play. The Halo that people play for fun. The Halo that I would play when I went over to a buddy’s house and drove the Warthog around on Valhalla not caring what would happen. Kamikaze into the ground with a Banche screaming racist stereotypes.

  • This should be XP based.

  • Custom Loadouts

  • Armor Abilities and Sprint.

  • Halo elements that makes the game fun and makes you laugh with your friends.

More could be said so please discuss it with me and other people
Remember, the goal of this is to come up with great ideas to help morph the future of Halo Multiplayer.

. Playlist EXP
. TrueSkill playlists with rankings to 1,000 not 50
. Good Connection filter
. Fewer 1 hit kill weapons to place an emphasis on gun skill - Boltshot, Railgun, Incineration Cannon, Rockets, Sticky Detonator, Sword, Shotgun - there’s too many
. No Plasma Nade starts
. Assault Rifle should have much shorter range - there’s too much spray and pray in every Halo game
. Objectives integrated into playlists from the start - BTB, FFA

NOOO! 1,000 is a bit ridiculous. The 1 to 50 system is good and so is the idea of resetting them every once in a while. All of your 1 hit kill weapons list is basically all the power weapons minus the Boltshot(which I dont thin will make a return). The assualt rifle is great now that it actually has some range to it before. In previous halo titles no one every purposely decided,“Hey I’m gonna use the assault rifle!” It was BAD because there was no range and was so weak. Plasma’s I can see where you would say that that is an issue but everyone gets the opportunity to uses them so it balances out with that.(Plus stickies are easy to avoid).Other than that I believe you do have some very valid points that should be looked into.

I believe a rank should be based on wins, not kills.

This promotes players to work with their teammates to make sure they keep progressing. When kills are priority is doesn’t matter as much if you support your team, if you win your games, so long as you can keep a positive K/D. It causes players to act more like lonewolves than team players.

To appease competitive scene, Halo 5 needs the option to enable/disable combos(button glitches) as well as Super jumps.

Let’s face it, Halo 2 was huge but flawed. I really don’t think anyone could make a solid argument against allowing those features many loved in specific playlists. Competitives loved the BXR, why not let them be able to in their MLG/Throwdown playlist?

Because it wasn’t intended to be that way. This is an FPS not a fighting game like Street Fighter

Definitely had some good ideas. However rank should not be based off of kills. It needs to stay based on win’s and losses. If you choose to go into a 4v4 playlist by yourself you take the risk of loosing with randoms regardless of whether you went plus 20 or not. I did it in Halo 3 all the time, and i managed to get a 50 in dam near every playlist. If it was based off of kills there would be no incentive for teamwork period. Winning is truly the only way to accurately and fairly award rank progression, and in playlists like FFA the old method of top 3 ranking up with 3rd and 2nd ranking up slower than 1st should work just fine.

This, as well as a community cooperative playlist will make the game thrive.
