The devs created the problem to begin with. Why have the possibility to betray at all? Halo CE is hilarious now with everyone getting booted for barely touching a teammate with a warthog.

I’m just curious if the devs have said anything about their approach to handling betraying in Infinite, or if you guys would change anything drastically. Personally I would maybe make it 4 or 5 betrayals to get booted, or punish people who too frequently boot their teammates. Being able to strategically betray is a core mechanic and it’s kinda of a bummer that it’s limited to 3. When a teammate is misusing/playing poorly with a power weapon, or just needs a wakeup call, sometimes a betrayal is exactly the thing your team needs. It can be very beneficial when used correctly and I’d hate to see the devs punish us because some loud members of the fanbase have been bitten by some overzealous teammates. Any thoughts?

I would much rather play with someone that has a 1KD.
Those with high KD tend to be bullies (avoiding people of their own skill) or KD farmers (avoiding the objective of the game). They rarely make good team mates.

Some people are competitive and like to win my dude. There’s nothing worse than having a bunch of dead weight on your team while you and maybe 2 other guys carry the team and end up losing anyway. I understand some people play casually but some don’t try at all. My point is you gotta understand both sides.

So you would much rather play with a team mate who has a 1.1kd and will betray you for power weapons if he plays objectives? To each their own I guess

True.
We can only hope that the iteration of SBMM in Infinite minimises these types of match ups.

I would argue that it’s far more likely that the guy with mega-KD is the one betraying me for power weapons or happily ignoring the fact that our flag is halfway across the map.
Thing with the system is they have betrayals in certain team-based gametypes to teach about responsibility and not go buck-wild with certain weapons knowing your team is in range. Other companies have done this as well and while I don’t entirely agree with it, I understand where they’re coming from. I doubt Halo Infinite will shy away from this so all we can really do is roll with people we know online or cross our fingers and hope none of our randoms are trolls and/or inept.

He says in the OP he betrays people for various reasons lmao(including not being upto his standards with power weapons), I’d rather have a good player betray me for his -Yoink- reasons, Than a bad player betray me for his -Yoink- reasons.

> I agree especially in ranked. If you figure a 12 minute game has 4 snipers spawn, I can foreseeably need to betray my teammate 4 times to take it from him in order to ensure a win. It makes no sense to limit it at 3. I shouldn’t be punished for making several judgment calls during a high stakes game.
Alright, God. If your judgement reigns supreme, then perhaps you would’ve ‘foreseen’ yourself being the first person to get the sniper rifle.
In all seriousness, not everyone is perfect. We all lose matches from time to time. Let other players get better at sniping through trial and error. You don’t need to be the only one who ever gets to use power weapons.
Honestly, if someone’s absolutely dead-set on having every possible advantage in a “high stakes game”, the real solution is to just roll with a team you know and can coordinate with rather than ask the developers to make it easier for you to kill your own team without consequence.
But, what’s a “high stakes game” anyway? A competitive top-level ranked game? Semi-finals and finals in tournaments? Or just a random social game you solo-queued into? Because the people that can’t hit the broad side of a scorpion with a sniper rifle don’t seem like the sorts to make it into those first two types.
Personally, I’d long thought about if they simply made it so if you betray someone you can’t pick up their weapons. People would still get creative and stuff, but you can’t just waltz up to someone smack them down and then take their weapon. Your only reward would be being pushed closer to a well deserved boot from matchmaking.

I’d rather have both booted (on 1 betrayal even). I want the player whi accidentally betrayed me trying to shoot an enemy with a rocket booted too. I don’t care what the circumstances is or if it’s an accident. I don’t want to be betrayed, and the only way to teach people to be more careful is a stricter penalty than an extra 8 seconds in their respawn.
I’ve been playing Halo online for almost 20 years now though (XB Connect before Xbox Live). As someone with that much online Halo experience, I can tell you being stricter on betrayals will yield a better experience for the general population, even if it has a negative impact on some who accidentally betray every now and again.

This is also a bad idea. And will be easily abused lmao. I’ve also been around since XBC days and I can forsee this just being rekt on by trolls. Say if you throw a bad nade and I run ontop of it and you get auto booted. -Yoink- will happen. And being auto punished for it is dumb.
Even the best players in the game make mistakes lmao.

I feel like we need player reputations, akin to what we had on Xbox 360.
If you recall back in Halo 3 days you could give someone a negative reputation and this showed on their profile.
With that information, we can pool poor reputation players into lobbies with other poor reputation players. Food for thought.
That said; there needs to be an investment in team communications.
I need to be able to betray people that do not play objectives. Think Husky Raid on Halo 5 where idiots get into an ego contest in regards to kills but never charge towards the flag… that friendly fire needs to be turned on desperately.

That circumstance sounds harder to set up than blasting a team mate with a rocket, so I think it will be less abused than the current system, and totally justified.
Remind me never to run a match with you.
If your in ranked and someone terrible is using a gun you want and losing the match, well then their rank will go down and you will move on to matches without them and climb out of their tier. So yeah no killing here, you aren’t aren’t the arbiter of the teams strategy.
In social, if someone has something that you think you’d be better with… go ahead and build a bridge and get over it. The game isn’t about winning, it’s about having a good time. I’d they want to spend the entire game waiting at the sniper spawn so that they can sit in the back of the map and miss every shot that is their prerogative. Map spawned items are a first come first serve thing.
Betrayals happen, fights are messy and I went to stomp a guy in my mantis right as a teammate dropped down and hit him, killed them both. Felt bad but it wasn’t intentional and I imagine the teammate knew that. If I do it enough times that I get booted, I was either playing without respect to my teammates or my teammates were idiots. Either way, I am fine being out of the match.

Considering you’re a Diamond 1 all-time highest, I definitely get to dictate how you play if we’re on a team.

That post of his basically confirms without a shred of a doubt there’s no meaningful conversation we can have with him on this (or possibly any) topic. 343i’s not going to make betraying easier for ‘players’ like him and thankfully never will. Let’s all just move on and let this thread die the death it deserves.
This thread is one of the most interesting debates I’ve ever read. I’m not even going to chime in on the topic; I just want you all to know how much I’m enjoying reading through all these replies.
