I know that ending support on the old to focus more on the new is a necessary part of product evolution, but what worries me about H5 is that the entire multiplayer in every way is server based. That server won’t be plugged in forever. What will happen to all our forge maps, our gear, all those mp maps, and other cool stuff?
If Reach and H3 were unplugged tomorrow, I could still play custom games, forge, and firefight and do that forever if I wanted. If H5 gets unplugged tomorrow, it would just be a campaign and nothing else. This bothers me and makes me feel like I don’t really own a full copy of H5 and feels more like I’m just paying rent on it.
If H6 is truly 343’s final Halo, I hope they give it the Reach treatment as far as offline existence goes to at least to protect their masterpiece in the long run. I don’t mind paying money to play online. I did that in every game since H2, but when everything just disappears when the internet goes out, that’s just over kill to me, like getting kicked out of forge for idling.
What do you think? Should H6 bring back “offline existence”?

They could add in offline features when it’s near the end but there’s no guarantee, anyone buying a disc version would never get the full game, be forced to play campaign only.
I think the reason H5 was over-saturated with online only was because originally the Xbox One was supposed to be going down that route, that lead to a backlash.
343i should only use online features for matchmaking since it makes zero sense to expect players to only be able to use modes like forge or ‘coach’ gaming when it doesn’t need online all the time, it has made it impossible to play at gaming conventions since ‘internet’ usually isn’t reliable in big events plus no Lans either didn’t help matters. Anyway offline modes need to return since in it’s current state it’s just not a good idea overall to keep doing this since not everyone ignores past Halo just because something new comes along.
Well the good news is they’re still running Reach, H4, MCC and I think even H3 which will all be shutdown before H5 so it will be a long time before that happens.

exactly this
and H3 is already a decade old
thats why I think H5 will stay online at least for another 5-6 years
I don’t care what they do so long as they allow everything to be used offline before the servers for the One are shut down. You can’t play anything in this game unless you are online. I think only the campaign. I’m not entirely sure.

That’s correct, the only thing playable in offline mode is the campaign.
Halo 6 absolutely must have offline forge and custom games if it’s going to have split screen.
Bonnie Ross said all future Halo titles will have split screenSo don’t worry about it, we’re all good for the future. As for Halo 5, I’m sure server support will last until the game hardly has 50 regular players on it. That’s how it tends to go.
If you want to return to your old forge maps in…say… 2020? Well, bad news. But that’s really not the biggest deal is it?
Yes they need to fix this issue at some point. Though I highly dought they will. I like collecting everything I can in a game. In this it’s every req item. I would be upset to say the least if I spent all those hours working on unlocking everything, earning all the commendations, getting Achilles armor and helmet, them poof… gone forever. They can shut down the servers but make a patch or dlc for all the multiplayer games so it can run off the Xbox before shutting the servers down even if you can only play with friends, it’s still better then not being able to period. Well, I guess there’s always campaign but seriously, who wants to do the same thing repeatedly
