What went wrong with Halo 5's Story:

343i needs to stop using lore through comics and other forms of mythos to tell their stories. Along with wrong advertisement before the game is released !

  • We shouldn’t have to read an entire volume of comics in order to know a character’s intention or where he came from. This was almost an issue in Halo 4, but it’s so glaring here. Who the -Yoink- is Warden Eternal and why should We care? The game barely covers that and it irks me. In Halo 2, there were new characters that were fleshed out and had an identity and place in the plot
. - The Prophet of Truth for example, is a supreme leader of the Covenant faith/religion, and has a clear cut motive: to start the Great Journey and get everyone into a new world (or heaven). We know what his intentions are, we know how he sees himself and his enemies in the grand scheme of things, and we know where he came from. Warden Eternal, while having a cool design (and voice), is completely overshadowed by every other antagonist in the series. The Prophets, the Gravemind, the Didact - hell - even Cortana herself.

The point I am trying to make is that you shouldn’t need to read up on something beforehand to get what the game should be telling you. It’s one of the reasons why I think the story is so lackluster in comparison to 1,2,3, Reach, and even ODST & 4. They had memorable characters that were built over the story’s progression.

  • Dutch came in at the beginning of the game, but by his mission, We knew what kind of guy he was and could predict his actions. Warden Eternal just comes out of -Yoinking!- NOWHERE with a big neon sign that says, “I’M THE VILLAIN, FEAR ME”. TL;DR: 343i needs to stick to storytelling that is built through the game itself and not other forms of mythos/lore. - Another thing Warden eternal appears waaay to often, like what the heck was that ? You kill him, he comes back again and again. And then in the end “oh no ! look there is three of him now ! what do we do !”. Like come on this is not some 1990’s game. He would have been cool if he was just like a one time thing and did not play a huge role in the game, like if he was an reaction to inheritors (humans) entering the realm of the guardians. Like a filesafe system.

(By the way incase you did not notice this is solely about campaign)

Brian Reed, halo 4’s criticism and possibly Microsoft intervention.

I do agree that the game should do a better job of bringing people up to speed.
For instance, the cutscene at the ebgining of Crows Nest, Miranda fills you in on pretty much whats been going on while you have been alseep in the jungle. While i thought the Halsey intro was interesting and thought provocking, they could have used it to give a quick update on what went down between 4 and 5.

Especially when the Escalation comic series hadn’t finished before the game was out.

That comic was utter -Yoink-. All it served to do was erase Halo 4 Spartan Ops.

Did you now that halo 5 writer actually didn’t now anything about halo or its lore no joke look it up

I agree with you. I rely on the game for the story, as I have no interest in the books, comics, or movies. the gap between marketing and reality is a giant blunder without so much as an explanation.
