What Went Missing

So this is an interesting story that happened to a friend of mine. My friend, quit honestly, is not a huge fan of Halo 5 even after its multiple updates. To the point where he is reluctant to even play it with me. When asked why, he simply responds with “It doesn’t feel like Halo”. He kept saying that until something happened: He picked up a Halo 2 Battle Rifle.

In a game of Warzone Firefight he picked up the BR that I spawned and dropped, and suddenly he was ecstatic! Dude started saying that it felt like it was what went missing. He even became a little depressed when he died from a wraith bolt and lost it.

So this begs the question: What exactly went missing? How can a single weapon of nostalgia make such a huge difference to one’s enjoyment?

Has he used the CE Magnum yet? :grin:

my guess is the pacing of each weapon is different and the general “feel” of each of the BRs to be honest

From the original trilogy, everything almost. And don’t get me wrong, Reach is my second place Halo, the only one beating it being Halo 3 [nb4 Halo 2 master race people], but even it wasn’t entirely true to the golden triangle. It really just went downhill from there. It became a square in Halo Reach [adding AAs], a… whatever you would call a six edged thing [my mind just went completely dumb on me here] in Halo 4 [+AAs, Sprint, loadouts], and continued with a pentagon in Halo 5 [+Spartan Abilities and Sprint].

Halo was built on three gameplay mechanics that made it perfect. No more, no fewer. Grenades, melee, and gun. Even Halo 2 had a problem with the melee being gone due to spawning with the SMG. Really, the problem your friend is having is that Halo doesn’t follow the formula. Halo 1-ODST, triangle. Gun. Melee. Grenade. Halo Wars was a RTS game, so it gets a free pass. I think I communicated this point, but at the moment i’m a bit drowsy so we’ll have to see.

…how does his post defend 343 in any way? He is saying Halo 5 is not following the “golden triangle formula” (which imo is complete -Yoink- since the golden triangle interferes with itself; you can’t shoot while meleeing, throwing grenades; can’t melee while shooting, throwing a grenade; can’t throw a grenade while shooting or meleeing) .

which that has nothing to deal with ops friend liking h5 just because of the h2 br, the answer is quite obvious, not this “golden triangle” bullcrap.

Oh man, you’re as bitter as a fresh-brewed cup of Colombian dark roast coffee, with notes of butterscotch flavor adding depth to the experience. Pairs well with a plate of butter cookies, as a foil to the coffee’s strong, bitter flavor.

Maybe you oughta be more like a medium roast; just bitter enough to get the flavor across, while forgiving enough to be widely-enjoyed by the majority of coffee drinkers. You’d then pair well with a nice dish of eggs benedict. Now thats the attitude for a winning breakfast.

I don’t have any answers for your question but it’s a neat story. I’m hoping the number of classic armors, weapons, vehicles, etc. that they’ve added as REQ items in recent months signifies a return of moar classic material in the future (which can co-exist with the newer stuff).

so he just wanted higher magnetism? lol

Like this? :joy::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This story is proof positive that the vast majority of New Halo problems reside in the players’ heads, not in the game. Of course the game changes from one iteration to the next. Of course there are differences between titles. Of course people will have preferences. But when somebody walks away from the franchise altogether then that was a casual player who found an easier path with Call of Duty. Or who graduated from college and now has a wife and full-time job. Or who followed his friends to Destiny. Or whatever. Who cares? Let them go. I mean, honestly. The Halo 2 BR? It’s a stand-in for his lost childhood if ever there was one.
