What we really need. A forfeit button

As some of you have seen, we have been plagued by DNF threads recently complaining on bans. I myself was banned for what I thought was a day (it was, from the looks of it, 23 minutes, which for my DNFs, I honestly find underwhelming) and I have to address this before it gets out of hand…

Some matches usually wind up one sided affairs that have no hope for the team you’re playing on. At that point, continuing the game rather than moving on is a waste of time, and people will start mass deserting and the battle will become even steeper, pressuring the rest of the team to leave as well… rather than ban people for quitting a one sided match, why not allow us to leave scot free by creating a forfeit button that will grant the opposing team victory instantly (it looks like a core destruction or flag capture victory) and then allow us to move on to a less one sided match? I believe DNFing would become rare (or might even cease to be a problem altogether) if this was an option, as it’s as if you finished the match on last place. It counts your kills and deaths, but not everything else…

Leading people on is just outright offensive. I don’t believe you should ignore quitters, but if the whole team is outnumbered, why not give us a white flag to wave?

Oh yeah a forfeit option…the trolls will have a field day with this thing.

I can see it now parties of 4 or 5 or however many votes it takes to forfeit all traveling around and forfeiting games
There’s a reason why this has never been in a game and its because kids online would just abuse it

it would be abused is the bad thing.

As much as I’d love it to be a thing since one-sided Warzone games can drag on for ages if the opposing team decides not to destroy your core, what was described above is exactly what would happen. Maybe make it so that the difference in scores has to be quite big but other than that, there’s nothing that can be done.

I like how destiny has a mercy rule. If the match is too one sided the game forces it to end

Ive said this for awhile. The game needs a mercy rule.

I think if your team quits, you should have an option to end the gave without getting banned. It’s no fun for anyone to sit through regulation time of a match where one team has no chance.

It works pretty well in league of legends

Nope, just finish the game like a man.

This is definitely needed when three of your teammates quit and you are the only one left in a strongholds match.

stop whining.

forfeiting is not Halo. never was, never will be (thankfully).

So I am stuck getting shot at or being banned for idling because the other team is dragging the match to boost their kill count?

Afraid not man, that’s the worst piece of -Yoink- I’ve ever heard…

Abuse can be prevented by setting a minimum difference (the other team needs to be above 500 points and the gap needs to be wider than 300). That way, teams would only quit if the match is genuinely one sided and turning the tide is not an option. It’d have to be VP reliant, so Core Destruction victories do not count, since bases can be recaptured at any time and those usually imply the team will rush in to destroy your core and end the match fast…

In Arena, the difference must be more than half the points after the enemy is halfway to victory or you must have lost at least half of your party (for Community Breakout). I don’t think a Mercy Rule is nice since some teams can always score a very unusual win, but giving them the option to decide whether they want to try their luck or they want to say “you win, I give up” is a good idea. Trolls can’t use something that has been regulated accordingly.

Stay in a one sided match losing 20 minutes of your life you could be using in another game or match and THEN we will talk. Either that or allows us to destroy our own core in Warzone/kill ourselves in FFA without banning.

Anything not to drag a match. It’s not a Halo or even gamer thing. Also, rather bad taste if you ask me…

Or we could just get some permanent, social, JIP playlists.

  • It would be abused - Similar to quitting but on a mass scale - Those who are outvoted would become very annoyed if they are forced to continue or leave a match (“You can still destroy the enemy core”)

This. When 1 or 2 people quit in a 4v4 it’s terrible to have to eat the beating from the other team because of fear of a quit ban. There needs to be a way to just end the match immediately and a forfeit option would work. 343i is building up Halo 5 as an Esport game yet it lacks this option which is featured in other competitive titles.

Yeah this would be horribly abused; good idea but too many trollers.

Abused how? There are plenty of other competitive titles that have this feature. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be available here. If it’s because people are worried about people trolling in Warzone, fine, keep it out of that. But it should be available in ranked play if anything because of quiters.

Hence why you aren’t allowed to forfeit unless the game sees the match is one sided. Either that or you mean that randoms will create a company to join a match, give the enemy team a good lead and then forfeit. If so, it hardly changes anything, since it might as well have been a loss.

The whole point is that you don’t get to give in right away. The match has to be one sided for you to forfeit the game. Also, the whole team has to agree to this. If the majority says “forfeit”, then it plays as if the enemy team won (they get 1000 VP automatically)…

It’s needed in Arena. Nothing worse than being the on a 1v4 or 2v4 and knowing your only goal is run out the clock with as few deaths as possible. I’ve always had a no tolerance attitude about quitters, but lately I’ve quit a couple of those type matches. I don’t have the patience for it anymore. The game is decided already and it’s hard to justify hanging around to pad the enemies stats. And it is worse than “not fun”, it makes you want to lay the game down.
