For years now, the Halo community has been fractured and divided. Starting with Halo: Reach and escalating afterwards, hate, criticism, division, and all around negativity has plagued our amazing fanbase. Instead of debating and berating, let’s talk about the positives without drawing comparisons. What are some of the things from Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians that you did like or approve of?
Great forum topic for a first. Would love to hear other positives of games. What are some of yours as well Deaths Shadow74?
Halo Reach: I loved the customisation of your spartan and the introduction of spartan abilities. Seeing everyone’s Spartans in the lobby was an amazing way, in my opinion, to show off your own identity. One of the games I had the most fun and with so many memories made.
Halo 4: Spartans Ops was an interesting new addition to the franchise with another platform the fight off the Covenant and the new Prometheans. I quite liked the design of the crawlers and knights, especially because of the trailer where the knight knocks the Master Chief down and screams at you.
Halo 5: This brought Spartan Companies, an amazing way to meet new people who share a love for the game. An interesting way to unlock new items and Warzone in general. Thousands of new ways to customise your Spartans and different ways to make your loadout unique with different skins added.
Reach had the absolute best art design, UI design, and player customization of the Bungie games, really the whole series. You can imagine the immeasurable disappointment when Halo 4 took a step back from this.
It shows that they wanted a heavier narrative focus for Halo 4, and 343 succeeds here for the most part. It’s far from perfect though, as the game assumes you’re up to speed on all of the books and comics, and are finding and watching the Terminals. I’m of the opinion that supplementary material is great, but it should not be required reading.
As for Halo 5, uhhh… The end credits, meaning I never have to see that god-awful campaign ever again. Actually I can’t even say that, since the end cutscene was bugged on my end. I have little, if anything nice to say about Halo 5.

This started way before Halo Reach, try Halo 2

Don’t even get me started about how I had to play half a campaign in 2004 with an alien, or how the ending was such a ridiculous cliffhanger that we had to wait 3 YEARS for to resolve.
Single SMG starts too, in multiplayer? You might as well give me a wet noodle to try and kill opposing players.

Like most people, I really enjoyed Reach’s customization. It had a great selection of armors that could be mix-matched, leading to a bunch of unique spartans running around. I also really liked the vehicle selection and how they used species preference in a creative and fun way.
Halo 4 had some super nice maps that were not only well made in my opinion, but were visually pleasing as well. All of the Forerunner tech looked advanced and alive, really making the player feel like they were dealing with forces outside of their own realm. I also loved Halo 4’s customization option and the cool new GEN2 armor and visors.
Halo 5, despite being disliked by many, was really enjoyable for me. We got to see and explore alot of very cool settings in the Campaign like Meridian and Sangheilios, and the maps were all visually unique as well. Although it made for a more stressful experience, I do enjoy how competitive Halo 5’s ranked playlists are. Forge is also very fun and easy to use in Halo 5 as well, someone like me with the creative ability of a distracted ape is able to make some really cool stuff, and I think that’s neat. Halo 5 also added some classic armors, it was cool seeing old and new in one game.
