What was your first impression on Halo 4?

What was your first impression on Halo 4 before it’s actual release?

What was your first impression on Halo 4 during the first day and the early days of playing it?

What is your impression on Halo 4 now?

My first impression: This is going to be awesome!

My impression upon release: This is awesome!

My impression now: This is awesome!

before: this game rocks!
during: this game rocks!
after: thus game rocks!

Before: OMG. I am going to love this game.

During: OMG. I love this game, as fast paced as I like games to be, I love it. (Except for JIP and vehicles being almost useless)

After: OMG. Now with the fixes I love it even more.

Halsey… is so real… then I see a spartan fighting with a brute SO EPIC

> Halsey… is so real… then I see a spartan fighting with a brute SO EPIC

I haven’t read too much on Brutes, so I was in for a cool surprise when I saw the size of the Brute fighting Master Chief in the first cutscene!

Before/the first trailer: Cool(I wasn’t in the hype of halo yet)
During: Sweet(I was now in the groove)
After: Better than bacon.

I loved that part with the brute.

Before I was kinda excited, but nothing much.

At my first impression I enjoyed the game and found it to be new and fun.

Afterwards, I now realize that Halo 4 really isn’t a good Halo game. Still, a good game but it really failed at doing anything new to attract players and keep them playing. Combined with 343’s inability to keep up with the demands of the community, I’m truly fearful of what’s in Halo’s future if they don’t pick up pace.

This game has no chance of offering an interesting story.

These graphics are amazing.

343 really shot themselves in the foot with the initial lack of maps, subsequent lack of smaller maps, and present lack of smaller maps. Talk about being map stingy. YEESH! Those map packs should have come out much sooner. The online pop. fell off a cliff and they did nothing. Pitiful…
Experience Ranks and Commendations were not thought through. “I can’t wait to finish that 10,000 point commendation/daily challenge so I can not rank up.”
Bad maps and no ranks really kept a lot of people from sticking with this game.

Better than reach, not as good as 3

Before release: Meh no expectations

First few days: This is an okay game

Now: this game is absolutely terrible

Before: BOOYAH!!

After: BOO!!!

Now; Ehh…

The campaign we played as soon as we got home from they midnight launch party; start to finish. It was way to quick: 4 and a half hours or so, that was disappointing in length but, the campaign was OK.

When then started playing MM and have done so every day since; awesome!

And, it keeps getting better; I like the variety and the fact 343i is listening, not to one particular group but different view points and responding accordingly.

Before: We’re returning to real halo! Good bye Reach!

Day 3-5: Campaign was great now Um wheres the competitive playlist? Infinity slayer? I’ll give it a try. Oh god there’s a 1 shot kill weapon you can spawn with! What the?! were are people getting snipers and rockets from? Oh well I’ll just host some lan matches with my hommies like back in the day… Wait a minute. looks at custom games.

Now: 343I while you fix this mess I’ll be playing something else.

OMG it is going to finally BE HERE holy hell!

So many things, so little time, how to find out!? This is so cool!

Still cool, still many good things, but can’t see myself getting it now. I’ll wait for Halo 5.

Honestly? When it was announced, “Oh man, they’re really trying to milk it now”. Granted, I thought the same thing about Reach, but that won me over from further trailers and previews, as well as the beta.

First day, I took the day off work to stay up all night playing it. After a couple of hours I thought, “Geez, maybe I should go into work tomorrow/today”. Someone added me to party chat and asked me what I thought. My response was, “Ehhhhhhh”. Once I discovered there was no local only search option, I got angry.

Now? Still angry that I can’t play the game. Feels like I wasted 120 bucks for an average at best campaign.

Campaign First Impressions

Prologue: So a few canonical problems off the bat isn’t a good start…

Dawn: Alright, this feels cool. So why exactly are the Covies attacking us again?

Requiem: All alone on an alien planet, this is so sweet…oh there is the UNSC Infinity arriving to conveniently save the day.

Forerunner: These new enemies are cool, but do they do anything else but be bullet sponges? Oh there is the Didact…he sure does like to Force choke and monologue.

Infinity: Who the -Yoink- sends a bunch of troopers out into the middle of an alien planet when you know danger is afoot?

Reclaimer: Downloading “Savetheworld.exe” from a Forerunner ghost…okay.

Shutdown: Backtracking WHOOP!

Composer: Holy -Yoink- a Halo…oh we don’t get to go to it.

Midnight: That’s it?

Epilogue: Boy, Frankie is going to be busy in New Phoenix with that mop of his.

Multiplayer First Impressions

Meh.

What was your first impression on Halo 4 before it’s actual release? None

What was your first impression on Halo 4 during the first day and the early days of playing it? Amazing graphics!

What is your impression on Halo 4 now? Vehicle Gameplay is horrible.

What was your first impression on Halo 4 before it’s actual release? Looks awesome! May be the best Halo game.

What was your first impression on Halo 4 during the first day and the early days of playing it? Nice graphics. Poor gameplay. Expected alot more and was quite disappointed.

What is your impression on Halo 4 now? Its a decent game. Not good but not bad either.

Before release:

Not excited at all. A little disappointed that one of my favorite game franchises was seemingly going to be headed further down the road that Reach started down. For the most part, I was not a fan of Reach’s multiplayer gameplay nor the campaign, but it did manage to do some things right (ex. Forge), yet I did not plan on buying the Halo 4 because it seemed very similar to Reach.

After release:

One of my friends (whom I met through playing Halo CE lans way back in the day) invited me to play the game at his place a few days after release. My impression was that, if you take away all the superfluous stuff they added, the core gameplay felt Halo-like. I enjoyed that and hoped that there would be playlists/rebalancing of systems in place/custom games settings that would allow me to enjoy returning to playing Halo. I liked the campaign and also the idea of Spartan Ops. The unintuitive UI (at least for me) did bother me a bit, but I thought that it was a small oversight in the grand scheme of things.

Now:

There are plenty of things that bug me with this game that seems pretty clear are never going to be fixed or are not going away. Random weapon spawns, Personal OD, no descope (and the flinch they replaced it with), lack of custom games settings, and join in progress, just to name a few.

Also, I was one of those folks who played on release week, had a valid email, patiently provided all my info to 343 and waited, yet never got access to the other specializations. This made me not want to put up with the game any more. No use in grinding (playing previous Halos didn’t feel like I was just grinding it out btw) for experience to get a spec that I didn’t plan on using when there was one that I wanted to use and level up in, but couldn’t because… no reason, 343 just kinda messed up.

The GDC panel left a very bad taste in my mouth, but gave insight into why Halo is headed in the direction it is headed. It made me realize that Halo is headed down a road that makes it not Halo for me anymore. I know that Halo is different for everyone, but past Halos had something for everyone. Whether you were a glitcher, casual, forger, competitive, customs player, into making jump videos, machinima maker, someone who dabbled in all or a combination of those (like me), or whatever, there was a niche for you in previous Halos. In Halo 4, not so much. It is evident that this is 343’s game and it seems that it can only be played the way that 343 wants and, if you don’t like it, then Halo is no longer the game for you. I hope Halo 5 can bring it back around, but right now, I feel it would take an amazing feat of a game for me to give any more money to 343.

TLDR: Read before and after release and bolded & colored section in now
