What was the point of the CSR reset in Team Arena?

So my friend and I were excited to play today, noticing (we hadn’t played since the Cartographer update) that the CSR for Team Arena had been reset. We both have become much better since our initial CSR’s were set in October. After playing our 10 matches and winning most of them, we reset back to our pre-reset CSR’s. What’s the point? Are Team Arena CSR’s not being reset for each season? Can someone shed some light on this?

the CSR was reset and will be reset for each season, they also made some adjustments to the CSR’s and where you place. A lot of players were getting into diamond/onyx when they should have been lower.

You may have been placed in a higher CSR rank last season or your 10 matches met the criteria of the CSR rank you have now. Its not a “reset back to our pre-reset CSR’s”.

LOL a lot of people are still getting placed in diamond/onyx that are pure trash, have zero teamwork and skill. Or any knowledge on how to flank the enemy, etc…ranking system is pure garbage

This doesn’t seem right. My friend and I played every CSR qualifying match together, and he ended up 2 ranks ahead of me. Coincidentally, we both ended up with the same CSR ranks (down to the level) that we had before the “reset”. I am almost confident you are incorrect here, or we don’t have all of the information.

From the cartographers gift update:
{
Ranking:

  • Adjusted CSR placements for SWAT and FFA playlists.

  • Fixed bugs surrounding players being placed too high across all playlists.

  • Seasons for ranked playlists have been added; The January 2016 Season begins today.}

And the “seasons explained” post by 343i
{
Now that the season has begun, all of your Pre-Season ranks are still viewable on your Halo Waypoint Service Record, and all CSRs for ranked playlists have been reset, giving you a chance to place in each of these playlists again. At the end of each Season, those who qualified in at least one playlist (by playing 10 placement matches in any ranked playlist) will earn an exclusive seasonal pack reward emblem, only available that Season.

CSR TUNING
The arrival of the January 2016 Season also provides us with an opportunity to make adjustments to CSR tuning, and this comes in two different forms. Some of you have noticed the ranking distribution for the SWAT and FFA playlists was a bit skewed, causing lots of players to end up in Onyx. We’ve confirmed this was occurring, and to correct this we have made adjustments to the CSR curve for these playlists. Additionally, the Multiplayer team has made some changes to placement match logic to address the issue of players placing too high across all playlists, and the new settings will ensure that your skill is more accurately represented coming out of placement. As always, we’ll be keeping a close eye on your feedback once these changes go live.

From the “Enter the arena” post before h5 came out:

SEASONS
Seasons are a new competitive feature for Arena that gives you a chance to continuously challenge yourself while having the opportunity to earn monthly rewards. When Seasons debut later this year, your CSR in certain playlists will be reset and you will play your placement matches again. You get a fresh start each month to try to prove yourself in select Seasonal Arena playlists. This gives you a chance to top your performance from last season, and see how high of a rank you can achieve. Seasons will last for a month, and anybody who earns a CSR in a Seasonal Playlist will earn cosmetic rewards to commemorate the Season. (Here’s a sneak peek at the emblem rewarded for the December season)

None of this information really explains what happened to my friend and I. Assuming wins/losses and the relative skill of your opponents are the only determinants of CSR after the 10 game initial period, how do we end up with vastly different, and exactly the same CSR’s we had before the “reset”?

You guys just happened to do your 10 placement matches and get ranked exactly what you were previously.

I posted all that information in regards to you saying “I am almost confident you are incorrect here, or we don’t have all of the information.”

No one knows the exact way it determines your rank, unless 343i said it somewhere i have not seen.
All the information i posted was to back up the statement that your rank is reset. Which is true, it reset. You can claim it did not “reset” however, it did for everyone and some people (spoilers) got put back into the rank they were in before, because that was their skill level.
