In halo reach they added the ability to add death effects, this continued through the games and while I never used it myself, it was a fun sight seeing a enemy fall in a flash of hearts or confetti.
Halo infinite changed that system so that you can select gun by gun how the enemy death animation plays out.
Why did they change the players choice? Why take away a fun cosmetic that a player chose for themselves. Like I said I dont use the animation myself, there pretty I guess but what was the mentality behind removing it from your choice.
I feel it takes away the uniqueness of a player, if you find a rival in a game you recognise them by there death animation, and it adds to the victory.
But having every enemy that does by your assault rifle have the same sterile effect loses its magic in my mind.

They recently added SFX to them as well, and I hope they give us a way to disable it because some of them are just awful.

Yea they can feel obnoxious, Iām sure their meant to shovel people who like them to the store.

I hated death effects specifically as I didnāt choose them and had no control over them. I love kill effects because the person has to die in the way you want them to.

Thats a good point, I hoped they would add the ability to ignore the fracture skins like they did in halo MCC, mayby they could extend it to this too?

I mean I bought the lotus bloom one when it first came out. But now that they added the glass shattering sound on kills with it, I canāt stand to use it anymore. Do they hear the sound too when they die? Itās terrible.

I donāt mind the visual side of the effects but would really like if we can at least disable the coupled sound effect.

Maybe in the audio settings try turning down the one that pertains to death effects

I never used the death effects because I didnāt want to give other people the satisfaction.
I use the kill effects though because I get some small satisfaction (not the SFX so much).
Iād never pay for a death effect but I might (might) buy a kill effect.
Itās monetized taunting.
I agree the choice to remove the playerās choice of what happens when they die itās terrible. Surprise surprise that once again the direction that was taken was that of player expression restriction and monetization. Which seems to be the entire structure of this games customization. Make the customization better than Halo 5 or even reach (itās still not better than 4 in my opinion) and then start restricting all the options behind a pay wall so you make money. This is exactly what I feel has happened. Because a series that has existed for two decades now has been turned into a monetized cash grab with bottlenecked customization options that are all behind hard paywalls. Season 2 battle pass has included some free options, but not really a lot that are actually that nice looking. It also doesnāt help in my opinion that theyāve put the scout helmet back in via the store for $12.
I do really feel the mentality was āgive them options but restrict them to being what they want it to be all the time so that theyāll pay for it. Forget player expression and individualized customization. Just make everything be what they want it to be or what they think they want it to be so that theyāll pay money.ā and I havenāt really seen much moving away from that.
You donāt take a game series that has been known for player expression and customization and just gut that system for monetization. All in the name of a āfree to play modelā that isnāt actually living up to the name of being a live service with minimum content upon release followed by minimum content for the seasons that follow.

I often hear the glass shattering sound but donāt even see the effect. Iād like a way to turn them off as theyāre distracting. I noticed the wolf cry is quieter when I turn down AI voice volume.

Because why give players a choice when you can let players impose their fancy $10 kill effects on everyone else?
I personally wish there was a toggle (Gasp, the dreaded āTā word!) or at least some kind of audio control for Kill Effects since I find them extremely obnoxious but oh well.

Thereās a lore reason for all this Iām sureā¦

Do they have a setting in audio to turn down the effects? Ill have to try it when I play next as they are toooo loud and scare the crap out of me.

They are intrusive. When I can switch them off, I will.
What an annoying way to flaunt how much bucks some player spent.
Not even cool.

I am crossing my fingers for a crazy gib/bloody mess effect. Maybe Iām just one of the crazies from the early 2000ds who fondly remembers T-M games being gritty and gory for no good reason ~ but I want my snipes to paint the enviornment like they did in earlier titles like CE.
Agreed. Iād prefer the ability to opt out.
I WANT to hear that wolveās howl every time I take someone out, for sure! But I donāt want anyone TO HAVE to hear it!

There must be something wrong with my game because my first person kill sfx are pleasantly subtle and Iām not even sure Iāve ever heard them third person.
