I have read that some people love Halo: Reach, and others just hate it. I personally loved just about everything about it, (except low weapon ammo) I am just wondering, for those of you who disliked Halo: Reach, what was it that made it so bad? Thanks! Your thoughts are appreciated by me!
Come on! I really want to know!
The game is perfection:
- bloom, weapon recoil make the game challenging
- the variety of maps and unique modes
- the giant forge world
- the endless ranking system
- the awesome-looking armor
- elites in multiplayer
- introduction of daily and weekly challenges
- the improved forge and theater component
- the revitalized medals and multiplayer announcer
Reach is my favorite game…EVER.
Reach rekd halo. /s
In all truth, bloom ruined the game. Someone shouldn’t be able to beat me in a DMR fight if I fired the first shot and my reticle is pointed at their head for every shot. I think they should have kept the BR and not even made the DMR.
Also, endless ranking system? I got to max rank pretty quickly.
I enjoyed Halo Reach and I personally think it was the best Halo made. The only things I “dislike” about it (until I can’t HATE Halo Reach) is:
-
The Ranking System: It’s way too long and the average player would easily give up on ranking to Inheritor. I easily reached SR 130 in Halo 4.
-
Character Development: I always liked the look of my teammates and thought it was cool for once that I’d have a team to help me in a campaign. However: Spoiler pertains to #2.
-
Forge: This was an issue I don’t really care so much about until Halo 4 fixed this and I really didn’t use Halo Reach Forge, but it was being unable to precisely link things together. Halo 4 fixed this with the magnetic option.
-
Multiplayer Maps: All of the maps (excluding Forge Island maps) are from the campaign, even the firefight maps! Fans wanted to see some new, unique maps.
However what really matters is the good things
-
An epic campaign: Halo Reach’s campaign revived my ability to replay a Halo campaign endless times and still enjoy it. This is something I hadn’t seen since Halo 2.
-
Armor customization: Halo Reach had plenty of armor to obtain and they didn’t try to go over the top with details which killed the armor in Halo 4.
-
Firefight: Reach may not have been the first game to have Firefight, but Halo Reach set the standard for Firefight. It was completely customizable to every detail. Many fans were disappointed when it was announced Halo 4 wouldn’t have Firefight. This game set Firefight as a must for a Halo game and you could play Firefight with other players over Xbox Live.
-
Forge: I know what I said earlier, but there was even maps designed around you designing your own map! How cool is that?!
whenever they died I didn’t feel as bad as I should have. I think that had they developed more on each character I would have felt sadder about their deaths. Honestly I didn’t really care when Kat died. My first thought was, “Really? Why weren’t her shields on?” when it should have been “WTF?! Kat’s dead!” whips out pistol from Kat’s holster BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM!
Almost nothing.
Sure, the AR is useless, 4v4 feels a tad clunky, and there’s a couple of broken armor abilities, but that’s about all I can think of… None of those things ruin the game for me, either. That says a lot too, because this is still a Halo game with Sprint in it. I guess the balancing isn’t too far gone.
There must be some sort of skill gap with choosing armor abilities or something, because for whatever reason, I have no trouble beating players regardless of which one they choose, and regardless of which one I choose (unless I’m not particularly good with the ability.) There’s an ideal AA for each map too, right? It requires map knowledge in that regard, to know which one works best on which map…
I dunno, I guess what I’m saying is that this game is closer to ‘The Golden Triangle of Halo’ sandbox compared to Halo 4 and 5. It doesn’t feel crowded to me.
Also, the BTB is godly

Actually reach had more love for armor details, which have been worked out fine also.
This is 1 out of many things which make reach’s armory superior to h4’s. H4’s armory could be described as something like pointless armor pieces glued together on a latex suit.

Exactly. I hated those open gaps where you could see the latex that’s underneath the armor. Just imagine being in battle and then all of a sudden you take a hit from a particle beam rifle in one of these gaps. Before you know it you’re going to end up like Kat or Dr. Halsey after Spartan Ops.

Okay, so I am not the only one who liked reach… good…
people quitting and causing endless lag to games.

I’m not the biggest fan of Halo Reach’s multiplayer. I loved story. Here are a few of the reason though:
-Bloom
-No true ranking system
-A ranking system based on the amount of time you played. (Credits only)
-Armor abilities. I understand why they are there but they still drive me nuts.
-Lack of DLC playlists
I’ve been playing Halo since it’s launch in 2001 so the introduction of armor abilities and no true ranking system was a real hit in the gut for me. I still play though. I actually FINALLY achieved Inheritor last night with my girlfriend
when Reach first came out I played a lot of offline couch co-op with my friend and I absolutely loved it, forge, firefight, campaign. it wasn’t till a few years later that I actually played matchmaking, and then I started to understand everyone gripes
Armour abilities just brought to much randomness to the game, active camo was op (and still is) and jetpack and armor lock was being spammed.
banshees were so OP, banshee trick missile, banshee trick missile you could really only had about 3 weapons to take a skilled pilot down, 1, Spartan laser 2, grenade launcher emp 3, sniper rifle, or a tank if you had one
The maps, the default maps were terrible, and unless you had the DLC you would basically play every game on either Swordbase or Countdown, Reflection was a good remake however.
I never had a problem with Bloom, you just had to pace your shots and not spam the trigger, it added skill to the DMR, they took it out in H4 and it became OP
Reach was my first Halo, so I can more easily overlook its flaws. I still think it’s the most complete Halo single-game experience out there. Reach just has so much to offer (well, besides a skill ranking system). I also loved that Max Rank was unrealistic to expect from someone who played without boosting in Firefight all day. It’s one of the few experience-based progression systems that for me does everything right. It’s not an instant-gratification loot-fest, but rather a slow, rewarding drip-feed of currency to buy upgrades once a month with at higher levels
I’ll just put my dislikes in a list.
- no battle rifle, pushing the DMR on us instead of just adding it in along with the rest of the weapons.- the introduction of armor lock- lack of environmental customization (blizzards, rain, etc) in forge, although it appears to have carried on to Halo 4, H2A, and most likely Halo 5- ranking system. I would have preferred it be a little more challenging like the Halo 3 system. You a required to have this level to become this level and have this much to be promoted. Fancy stuff like that.- they made the grunts not speak english!- some of the maps weren’t very thrilling. A large majority weren’t vehicle friendly.- the downgrading of the active camouflage system. I find it very stupid that you actually fade in when you start running.- bloom. Oh my goodness, I hated it.- while the story did have a ton of significance to the Halo story, I feel like the Master Chief should have been involved a little more. Halo: Reach technically wasn’t a spinoff like ODST, Wars, SA or SS. It is part of the saga. That’s all I can really think of right now.
To be honost this game comepletly masterd graphics and gameplay at a fast pase
i think that halo reach has the best campaign and it was my first halo.
Most of my issues have been said,
- Bloom - Bloom + Sprint made it way too easy to survive- Armor Abilities - I’m fine w/ them in some game types (Mainly btb, invasion, and squad slayer when they had it). I wish in other modes you started with sprint, with jet packs placed on the map to pick up- Ranking System - I think this caused the most issues, especially with in-game KD, it made getting kills more important than winning the game. No skill ranking system meant good players got matched with beginners way too often.- Forge World - Overall, very good, just wish you could have more customizing options (All the maps from it looked kind of similar, lots of grey.)- Maps - IMO, the maps were awful. The only maps i could really stand were in the MLG and Invasion playlist.- Map Voting - There wasn’t any variety, the same maps + game types always got voted for. I like the H3 veto system more.
That is all I can think of right now, I honestly have had a great time playing Reach, and still play it all the time.
many didnt like that it didnt continue halo 3’s campaing, i personally love it
reach was great but haters aren’t
-The campaign was awful. Most of the missions are just really boring compared to other halo games.
-Every spartan in noble team had a extremely forced death that made no sense except for george.
-armor lock was the stupidest and most broken addition to halo ever(at least until the SAW)
-bloom was pointless and did nothing but let you use the AR at longer ranges if you shoot in small bursts.
-The DMR just wasn’t nearly as satisfying to use as the BR.
