What was cut from Halo Reach?

I’m curious to see what was cut from a game but can’t find that much about reach. I know a lot was cut like some cut scenes (shown in Rise of the Spartans), some game types, drones in firefight ,and rumors about forge-firefight. But not much light has been shown.

I’m hoping 343 would show some of the stuff that was cut from reach, like bungie did with pervious halo games.

General comment: with every single game ever released, there has always been a thousand ideas that did not make it in for every idea that did. They only have finite time, some ideas just plain sucked, or other ideas were more important to get into the game. Reach was no different.

For example: they prototyped a level where you drove a scarab around the burning new alexandria. However it ended up not particularly fun and the controls never worked right. Instead, they built the New Alexandria level you see today which showcases the Falcon brilliantly.

There were a few extra wildlife creatures cut from the game late into development, such as a purcupine type animal and a squirrel type one.

Like what? Bungie rebuilt the entire gametype engine for Reach, giving them much more power and flexibility. Some gametypes (like VIP) were not rebuilt in this new engine (because VIP never ended up particularly fun anyway)

Just rumours. But don’t think the thought never crossed Bungie’s mind because it did: the AI and pathing and stuff is several orders of magnitude more work and greater in complexity than Forging MP maps. Considering many people cannot make good MP maps and find the gametype setup often confusing, it’s a good bet that Bungie never went very far with this idea.

Probably not going to happen.

When people see stuff that was cut, often the first reaction is:“THATS SO COOL WHY DID YOU CUT IT!??” Disappointments ensue, feeling like they haven’t got the ‘complete’ game no matter how far that is from the truth. Also, it’s less of a surprise if 343i/Bungie manage to make that idea work in a subsequent game.

E.g. Did you know they tried to get online/LAN co-op working as far back as Halo 2? Bungie didn’t talk about then, and they pulled it off in Halo 3 and in 4P style.

Global Battles are things clashing against each other in the distance. This is visble in Tip of the Spear, Long Night of Solace and The Pillar of Autumn. Halo 3 did it as well.

As for Space Battles… Have you not played Long Night of Solace and ridden the Sabre?

I also miss the great fights with the tanks and warthogs and so on… in Reach.
Sorry but english is not my home language so its very hard for me .

I´m mean something like the Heavy gametype in Halo3, u know what I mean.
On maps like Avalaunch, Valhalla, Last Resort, Rat´s Nest, the great SANDBOX, Sandtrap, Standoff,
there were a lot of vehicles and it was a great fun.

This is what I miss in Reach. There are not enough cool maps with vehicles.

Why Reach has no heavy gametype?

That was Halo for me. Big and great maps with alot vehicles. ACTION PURE.
There was great ACTION in Halo2 and HALO3. But where is the great action in Reach?

343 please tell me why in the defiant map pack the firefight map only has english voice?
In all maps my Spartan speaks german - only on Unearthed my spartan talk in english !!!

The Emile clip that was in the Reach Trailer that showed him taking his blade out of an elite never made it into the final game.

Just going to quote this part real quick to mention that ‘Rocket Race’ was nearly the same thing and is/was an extremely popular gametype in Reach. Difference being that in RR, either player could ‘score’.

Whether you hate it or not, it was the Reach equivalent of VIP. :stuck_out_tongue:

VIP was always fun, and would have been soo much better in reach, with custom maps. I dont know why they would cut something like that,.

About scarab level: originally it was a level between New alexandria and the package, they escaped the city with a scarab instead of a pelican like in the actual game.
Also some covenant could ride the guta as a mount, the player could “board” and throw a grenade into his mouth, but was considered too cartoonish compared to the tone of the campain.
