What type of campaign do you want? Do you want the linear style of campaign like past Halos or a more exploration driven one such as ODST (although a lot longer and less repetitive)
In the case of Halo 4, if Chief’s going to be on an alien world, I think that freedom and exploration might be more suited. Thoughts?
Also, bearing in mind that the campaign is already set and stone in Halo 4 as well, what sort of campaign do you think would suit future Halo games?
I think 343i have already said that Halo 4 will be more about exploring. So I think it means that the can will be less linear. I’m not sure though. I wouldn’t mind exploring around a little more.
Exploration will be back, yes, they keep saying it.
But I doubt the campaign will have an open-hub like ODST. It’ll probably be campaign missions, but with a big emphasis on exploration.
I wouldn’t mind a more exploration-driven campaign, but I still want it to be mainly like the Main Halo titles. Just like ODST, it just wouldn’t feel Halo.
I want the old trusty level based campaign structure, but with actual different ways to handle the level. For example, you could get the choce between taking a vehicle onto a route full of enemy vehicles, or on foot to a smaller side route with lots of infantry. Or the choice between running straight towards a group of enemies and climbing on a hill with a sniper rifle and taking them out from a distance.
I think that’s the best Halo can be without being too open world. ODST was good, but the gameplay style doesn’t fit to the regular gameplay experience as well. After all, Halo has always been about visiting different environments. That’s something you can’t handle on a single small area. That’s why the old level structure with less linear feeling gameplay would be the best option. It would allow us to travel to different types of environments while not making us feel like we have to follow a set path.
Tbh, I think every Halo game granted you with the option explore more than you needed to. Halo games typically have a pretty free roam kind of feeling and some linear action going on. I like the combination.

I disagree. There are plenty of chances for deeper exploration. The best moments of exploration in Halo aside from ODST have been the level Halo of Halo CE, Outskirts rooftops of Halo 2. Everything else has pretty much been running along a pipe with some scenery added to make it look less like a pipe.
What we need is another Halo like mission where you are free to complete your objectives in whatever order you want while being able to run around with compelte freedom. And on some levels at least let the pipe divide into multiple different pipes that eventually combine into one. Let us choose between routes like I described in my previous post.

I completely agree with you. That’s exactly why I think that Halo: CE’s campaign is the best of them all. It had a very wide mission design for each of the campaign missions, and the gamepace was also very different from mission to mission. On some missions you had to take it very easy, and on others you had to run as hell to survive.
Linear means small playable space with all this huge area not filled up and inaccessible.
I want exploration. I want to reach the invisible sky barrier. Large masses of AI. I want 20 Scarabs!

I’m not saying that their isn’t a chance for deeper exploration. I’d like that, but I was just saying how each Halo game offered some sort of exploration.
