November 8: The Prophet of Truth arrives in the Sol system aboard the Forerunner Dreadnought, and proceeds on course towards Earth at near-relativistic speeds. November 17: The Forerunner Dreadnought enters Earth’s atmosphere. On-board is John-117, who ejects from the ship, using a hatch as a heat shield upon re-entry.
So my question is, why didn’t the Dreadnought just exit slipspace right above Earth? Why did it exit 9 days away?

Cause I dont think. What remained of Earths Defences. Plus even having a Spartan onboard. Made things easy for it.
Plus it still had to get from Pluto to Earth safely. You remember the Truth was onboard. Plus if they Lost the Dreadnought. Then Humanity and Elites win. No questions asked.
So taking a slower safer journey seems smarter. Seeing as it was a big risk for Truth.

To add on to what master of Unicorns said, it was so that the truth would arrive when most of earth’s defensives were wiped out, and he could arrive safely. That also is the reason why John117 arrived after Johnson and the Arbiter.

Well, the Solemn Penance managed to break through Earth’s defenses and stage an attack on Mombasa while the UNSC defense was at almost full strength. After over two weeks of fighting, the UNSC defense at Earth would be a lot weaker, and absolutely no match for a Forerunner keyship.
I was thinking though, he might have took his time to let his ships fully excavate the Excession. So when he did reach Earth, he could start up the portal immediately.

Both Broken Circle and Contact Harvest mention it was disarmed.

Not quite true… they removed all “weapons” they were aware of, which, given the Covenant’s tendency to be unable to understand forerunner tech, might not include all of the actual weapons (if the forerunners even armed the glorified tugs that are Keyships).

Well, the thing tanked multiple MAC rounds without taking a scratch.

Or those weapons the San’Shyuum told the Sangheili that they were aware of.

It was armed. Both Broken Circle and Contact Harvest mention it was particularly devastating against Sangheili fleets, which is why the ship being disarmed was part of the agreement.
Weapons they don’t know exist shouldn’t factor into the defence forces being “absolutely no match for a forerunner keyship”, as they couldn’t be used. The dreadnaught is never shown fighting back in h2 or h3, making it pretty clear all guns they knew of were removed, and seemingly no automated randomly hidden weapons existed.
Probably spent a while fighting above earth bare in mind the covenant still had 298 SMACs to deal with and an ungodly amount of frigates plus a few marathons.

Well, if they removed all the weapons that they were aware of, how would they know about they weapons that they were unaware of?
If they don’t know of the extra weapons onboard, how can tey use them?
