What to learn from Halo 4

I love Halo 4! However, here’s what we should learn from Halo 4 for Halo 5

Controls- Good, responsive

Campaign- Good, cutscenes beautifully done, explain more story, more levels?

Graphics & art style- continue this, it is done very well!

Multiplayer- more mixed-gametype playlists, more small maps

Weapon Balance- should be more even (cough cough DMR)

I would, if I was 343i, I would definitely impliment a Beta, which could have knocked out most of these issues

What do you guys think?

What I learned:
Rent it before you buy it
Do research
Make sure the game isn’t missing 90%+ of the content that you play the series for
If the content is there, make sure it functions properly
If DLCs are released, be sure to check what they are compatible with

Essentially, I’ve learned from this game alone that I should be a more cautious consumer.

Hit the nail right on the head.

Its’s so sad how 343i tried to make Halo 4 look like some sort of masterpiece pre-launch (via game trailers and videos) and it turned out to be the exact opposite.

Oh, they made a pretty game.
It’s just that they gutted it and threw out a huge portion of the fun in exchange for gimmicks and gadgets.

I don’t much care for GRAFIX and TOTALLY KOOL SPARTAN OPS MOVIES, so I can’t exactly pull much replay value out of this.
No, I don’t want to play the Matchmaking (or War Fights, whatever you darned whippersnappers call it these days) because it’s just as dry and repetitive as it was in the past several games, only now it’s missing decent vehicle combat and they flipped on the E-Z-Aim switch.

What 343 needs to learn is this.

In game rank from the start.

Massive amount of game types at launch. (Assault, Race, Juggernaut, Headhunter, etc…

16 maps at launch with several arena style.

A GOOD mix of small, medium, and large maps.

Beta

Social and Ranked playlist.

Infection, not flood. Have flood mode as a separate game type.

A real Slayer and FFA playlist. Infinity stuff is fine but shouldn’t be the main game mode.

No custom load outs.

AA’s as map pick ups only.

Weapons placed on map not via Ordnance drops.

No power weapons in Ordnance drops.

343 needs to go play Halo 2/3 for 2 weeks straight to figure out what works before they even start throwing ideas out for Halo 5 MM.

No instant respawn.

Sprint can be turned off.

Flag’s can be dropped.

These are just a few that 343 should take to heart for Halo 5.

yes.

343i should have learned to give -Yoink!- a “srsly?” face when they put such a restrictive release date on their games

i want finished work, not almost done work that -Yoink!- pushed forward

What I learned:

-not to get my hopes up if it’s being made on an outdated console

-implementing new AI behaviors, heck, new engaging AI, in Halo is definitely possible

-343 are good at improving a weapon sandbox (not necessarily balancing), making cinematics, telling a story (their apparent neglect of backstory, Covies, and development for supporting cast is actually a matter of prioritization. They put too much emphasis on Chief and Cortana), and using outdated assets (again, a matter of prioritization. Too much emphasis on graphics, though there was consideration for performance since there’s barely any lag compared to Reach)

What 343 should learn:

-don’t sell out at all in the Campaign. I’m not saying they sold out for it’s entirety (there’s only like 3 QTEs and several cinematic vignettes). Dawn is an unacceptable level due to it’s lack of difficulty scaling. It basically plays out the same on every difficulty. On Legendary, people are expecting to jump right in because they know what they’re about to face. 343 could have done the story telling in a cutscene instead of imposing it on veterans every single time. Press B to kill an Elite is very demeaning

-improve existing AI. Hunters are just a bit faster, Elites are a bit more engaging but now they are completely susceptible to the plasma pistol overcharge, Grunts have some new capabilities but the same old tricks, Jackals are a lot more intimidating but it’d be nice to see phalanx behavior. And of course, the marines would suck if it weren’t for the improved sandbox and slight improvement in responsiveness

-implement AI encounters better. We didn’t see Prometheans really working with Covies until Spartan Ops Episode 6

What got me to finally preorder the game were the breathtaking third person views of Campaign environments. So imagine my disappointment when Theater was not included for it.

Oh, look. Another decent thread that is going to be turned into a 343i bash fest. Typical waypoint.

-Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

-Try and remember the core fanbase when chasing a broader audience, next time

-Halo is not to everyone’s taste. No game is. That’s how it should be. Trying to please everyone is not always the answer.

-Fixing issues with your game is not the same as improving the game

-Rock, Paper, Scissors is brilliant because of its simplicity. Think about it.

This is what I hope 343i take away from the experience of creating Halo 4.

Ultimately, they will likely see it differently, and that’s cool. It’s all opinion anyway.

Listen to the community while making the game. Not 3 months later after learning the hard way and losing most of the population.

I think Halo 4 is freaking amazing. By far the best Halo online and the most fun I have EVER had playing a Halo game online.

If 343i tinkers with this game mush at all it will be rubbish and pretty much unplayable.

The population threads are overrated. The game sold millions. Made millions. And has a base of people that are playing it.

COD and other games are the new kid on the block and will pull from the online base of multiplayer games. Halo 4 is fantastic and has nothing to worry about at all.
