A note before it begins… I like halo 5 ALOT more than halo 4, I was a diehard halo2-reach fan and am glad to see some much needed changes in Halo 5. The game is not without problems, quite a few of them, and I’m going to discuss a big one here… OVERGROWTH. OMFG. I’m going to make the statement that it is the worst map, not in just Halo history but in the history of all video games since PONG. It has so many problems its unbelievable, and I’m going to list the ones that drive me most nuts of all.
It’s way too small. This is a problem with all the new maps, I get that arena greats in the past were small but there were also some that weren’t, like CONSTRUCTor NARROWS.
The power weapons… WHAT THE -Yoink- WERE YOU THINKING 343!!! I get that its supposed to be a CQC map, but putting weapons that take advantage of short radar with camping, in a map that is all one color, with a ridiculously tiny middle corridor and roots/corners that obviously encourage camping, is nothing short of short sided and stupid. Even removing the shotgun didn’t help becuase camo still makes everyone crouch and camp. the weapons should be SAW and plasma caster, or railgun instead of the caster, because those weapons are great in close quarters but can be countered
The sight lines. Big or small, halo maps have always had sight lines that can be used by pros and amateurs alike to pull off great shots and angles that are creative… and there are none on this map. 0. NADA. There is one hallway by the BR, and even then you can get the headshot shooting from the hip 9/10 times. Think oof small maps like PENANCE or CHILL OUT, they were small but could be played with snipers because the lines of sight were there.
The spawns… This is also a problem in all of the h5 maps but on this map it is especially bad. Spawning anywhere near the corridor is almost a guaranteed death becuase someone will be running up and down it with sword or camo. Every game is a blowout one way or another, there are never any close games on this map no matter what gametype in my experience, and this is part of it.
The color scheme. EVERYTHING is green and grassy… I’m sure some poeple use the stock callouts that 343 provides by the radar, but they are such a pain in the -Yoink- because no one uses those and they’re meaningless on this map anyway.
It’s in ranked playlists. This is the most unbalanced map (as I said in the history of the world) and there is no way it should be in any ranked playlist. I could see it if it had just saw and caster for power weapons, but as it is it is casual af and sets up too well for meaningless camping and camo/sword running.
This is just the top things that run through my mind every time I play this miserable piece of -Yoink-. In general, I’ve been trying to be more positive toward 343i becuase the game is better than h4… but this cannot go unsaid. This is pure foolishness and I wish that I could eradicate this map from the face of the world so nobody had to endure the 8 minutes of torture that it entails. I know that some poeple like it (though I disagree strongly), and the graphics and visuals are really nice. But I wouold rather play Chill out with an old dusty XBOX original graphics any day of the week. to me, 343i might as well have rendered in perfect detail the dump I took this morning and called it OVERGROWTH. Some of you are going to be hipsters and say I’m just hating on 343i because they tried to change things from the classic formula… to which I say open your eyes, read, and realize this is a PSA to everyone, including 343. This map has taken over for sword base as the worst map in my opinion, and if I could sever one of my toes in exchange for never having to play it ever again, I would do so happily. What do you think? I hate the remixed map trend, and would rather see proven great maps, like guardian, chill out, valhalla, construct, amplified, narrows, sanctuary, etc. and ending this BS of remixing already -Yoink- maps.I would love to hear your responses to my carefully worded PSA announcement that is OVERGROWTH (OP has to end post because of the vomit that naming this map induced)
All of this. It is the most diabolical map ever devised on halo. I have seen platinums routinely beat onyx on this by camping with the sword they spawned at. It is a game of run with the sword in every sense. I have yet to see a close game like you said and that can be platinums beating onyx on ffa like that. There is absolutely no skill on this map. Every time it comes up i feel like i have just put 1000 pounds in a slot machine and praying i dont lose it all. It would help if the sword was removed full stop and that there were only power weapons in the bottom grass area.
AND THE SPAWNS ARE SHOCKING. One spawns sword and now has a 10 kill lead guaranteed and one spawns near the railgun also giving a huge advantage. Everyone else has no chance. You should not spawn at a power weapon. There are no sight lines long enough to br someone camping with a power weapon. In other words it is a lottery based entirely on where you spawn. If you get sword then you win. If not then good luck not finishing last. Remove the sword entirely an the rail gun. Replace it with plasma caster and a sniper and it is way more fair.

I feel like the amount of grenades around makes it easy to counter campers / prevent them, but I also hate how many grenades can suddenly start coming my way if I find the entire other team.
I also think there are a good # of sight lines on this map, they just arent huge, but you can see through a # of windows etc to see the enemies movements and you can jusp through many of the windows to attack / escape.
There are some larger maps in arena also OP; Pegasus, Eden, Fathom, Riptide isn’t really small either

I get your point, I wish it changed my perspective but it doesn’t quite… There are enough grenades but that strategy only works if you have a teammate callin out to you. And while yes those maps are “large”, the amount of features equalize them and make the engagement area small. Pegasus is probably largest but there is never a time you really need the second scope on the sniper… Think about halo 3 maps like high ground (which I also hated but it has the sizing I’m talking about), narrows, or a Zanzibar. The laser and sniper were effective because the lines of sight were there. The area might be the same but the features in halo 5 maps make them feel too small. Maybe the only map I really liked in halo 4 was harvest because it had a large size and had room for sniping and small battle areas. Peeking through a window with a magnum is not what I would call a line of sight, tho I understand what you mean. I still think the saw would be an appropriate substitute power weapon

I definitely agree that the second scope on the sniper is pretty much useless unless you playing BTB and I won’t even go down the road of the laser lol…#useless
I’ve been playing a lot of Swat lately and you can get a lot of kills through the windows and the weapons are inherently balanced so I guess that’s somewhat where I’m coming from here.
Ya i’d replace the Rail-gun with almost any other power weapon. A better on like Rockets or Incineration Cannon might even change the dynamic somewhat and bring more of the battle outside where there is more space. There is hardly ever any contention over the Rail-gun…
I was talking about it from a ffa standpoint. All my points about thr map being a load of blam stand for that gametype. It sucks for ffa and it turns the match into a lottery. It needs to be removed from ffa and loads of people i match on it hate it for the same reasons.

Idk what ur talking about, when my team and I play overgrowth we wreck dudes on that map. I’m going to guess and say we win a good 75-80% of games on there. Its all about tactics, using strategy and have good teammate that communicate with you helps. But no matter the map (usually) teamwork and strategy beat all.

How do you figure caster and sniper is fair? I think that a scorpion and banshee would be fair too… That’s about how smart that sounded to me.
Any good player can kill a sword fairly easy. Four shots to the head br (5 magnum). And if you actually play with your team instead of running around playing “hero” the sword guy will never get more than 1-2 at a time. Then your team has sword.
Also, railgun beats sword almost every time (provided you know how to use it effectively)
The spawns were only bad before the patch. Now that shotty is gone from blue spawn the game is fairly balanced. Stop trying to change the game because you got beat. Adapt, learn and get better. Don’t complain

At Onyx level ffa it is hard to avoid the sword because of all the camping. A charging sword from right next to you is impossible to counter. And unless the player with the sword has weak sholeds ot os impossible to get enough shots off before they charge into you. And i only said sniper becuse there is so much close quarters play you would need no cxopes to dominate. There are very few sight lines. Personally the map is so blam that there ahould be no power weapons.
And again i was talking about ffa not team games. Team games is entirely different.

And i complain becaue the ffa matches are a lottery. I dont control where i spawn. I dont control the mammoth leads sword spawn guy gets. It happens every match withouyt fail. I also dont like how that means even a platinum player could hog the sword alla mstch and fluke a 3 minute win against any skill player. My point? There is no skill in this ffa gametype at all. And there is never a close match on it. The winner routinely wins before 2nd place has 15 kills.

I like overgrowth I just think there is no need for power weapons on the map except the railgun isn’t to bad but sword is and plasma caster doesn’t really matter not many people are extremely good with it and many times it justs sits there
