What the hell is WRONG with this site?!

Seriously, the forums load for me like 1 in every 10 attempts! Every other time it just hangs forever - a blank browser page filling up my screen until I navigate away. I’ve tried on pc, on my iPad, my Android phone - it’s all the same. An no: refreshing does not help. Is this the way it’s gonna be once the game launches? Because it’s just annoying as hell.

Also, where is 343i’s dev presence in the forums? So far I’m getting the vibe that it’s a lot less Bungie hands-on style and a lot more like MS corporate silence overwatch.

That’s not what I have come to expect from Halo community management.

Rant over. Sorry, but just getting this page to load has been a freaking nightmare.

The dev presence, although it doesn’t look like it, is high, just because they don’t post, doesn’t mean they ain’t here.

The site is due an update sometime before November 6th, and bs angel said she’ll be posting some details on what the update will do, and hopefully confirm it will fix the longstanding forum/site issues.

We are definitely here. Reading often, posting occasionally, but mostly crazy busy preparing the new hotness for all of you…while also trying to keep the forums available.

In the last several days we’ve made a couple of backend updates to the forums that should reduce the page load time substantially (when the forums are operating normally.) You should notice that page load times are crazy fast - you can tell by looking at the “This page was generated in…” text at the bottom of the page.

Occasionally the forums do get into an intermittent state where they may take a very long time to load. We’re getting close to having this issue figured out and hope to have a permanent fix deployed soon.

These intermittent issues are exclusive to the forums. The site and blogs are unaffected.

So I’ve noticed!

Thanks for the reply!

The new site looks beautiful judging by the preview video (love the navbar). However, these backend updates have seemed to cause a lot of service errors in the last couple days.

I’ve had a mixed experience with this site. Sometimes the pages will load instantly and sometimes they will take a full minute. I would like to point out that most of the issues happen on the forums. Have you checked for things that might be bogging down the actual forum software?

Of course the problem could always be Microsoft’s wallet not providing decent servers or hosting for a community this size… :stuck_out_tongue:

You think it’s bad NOW? Before the Waypoint facelift it ran horrendous. It’s slowly getting better.

I thought it ran better when we had the beta forums.

Getting ready for the update.

Should be interesting.

Jess said she’d post some information on the update over the weekend, keep an eye on the forums!

Thanks for the encouraging replies guys!

I really hope the update will come soon! I haven’t had the same issues as you, but I do have a problem with how long pages take to load.

Turns out I jumped the gun quite a bit. Judging by the complete non-presence of anyone from 343 engaging with the many complainants in the main Halo 4 forum, I’d say my “corporate overwatch” claim was pretty bang on the money actually.

How nice.

The “we can’t reply to every thread” comeback is a bull. This game made a fortune - hire some damn community staff. Not that EVERY single thread is expected to be addressed directly anyway. That would be silly and just unreasonable for any right-minded poster to expect.

No, just speak in the damn threads which matter most - the ones with actual page numbers in double figures. That’d be a good start, you know? Reassure us you are ON IT.

Pfft.

Pretty much this^ but a little nicer. The lack of community engagement is not very reassuring and the “even though they don’t post a lot” comment by Little Moa is… well… the exact problem. You’re right. They DON’T post a lot. And considering the game has now released, they should have ample time to do so.

That’s the sad thing about it - I’m actually a nice, well mannered guy. I’m also a father and a husband. But when I’m dealing with ignorance I tend to lose patience.

This forum/game brings out the worst in a lot of people I think it’s fair to say.

Been useing my iPhone to post and it hasn’t been to bad havent been on my pc for long time.

I understand your frustration (and often feel it myself), but there are legitimate reasons why 343i can’t reply to posts as often as we’d like:

• Making promises that they can’t deliver on is a great way to piss off their lawyers and the community

• Making statements about things they aren’t 100% sure of is also a great way to piss off lawyers and gamers

• NDAs are common when dealing with high-profile media franchises

• The people who have the information that most of us want are developers, and they’re still busy developing game updates and new content

I, too, wish that they’d be a little louder about problems, but we gotta accept that in many cases, they can’t be.

Posting != giving game/plot/update details.

Posting = interacting with the community and humanizing the studio and its employees.

Those excuses are terrible, DJC and, if you think about it for a second, it’s not to hard to figure that out.
