What the hell happened to the Wraith?

Perhaps not, I’ll agree that I probably misread the intent. However, I don’t see why I can’t think the design is fine and still be here.

Well, Jul M’dama’s splinter faction has most of its troops and equipment supplied by Hesduros, the Sangheili colony world that Jul found himself on at the end of Glasslands. Hesduros is known for organic aesthetics and more ornamental designs, as evidenced by the Harvester and the Zealot armor in Halo 4. It matches the aesthetic far more than the canonical leftover weapons and vehicles that was not destroyed during the War. Now, the splinter faction appears to be making their own tools of war, which I think is a great way to spice up the looks of the Covenant tech that has been unchanged for most of Halo.

Change for the sake of visual refreshing is bad stop using canon to prove your points. (Sarcasm)

Personally, I don’t think these design changes are a bad idea. Does anyone remember when Bungie changed the design of the Banshee in Halo: Reach? Plus the Swords of Sangheilios & the Remanent are splinter sects of the original Covenant. Designs are bound to change. Not to mention that most Halo lore for Elites states that the Sangheili were purely warriors. That they had no scientists at the time that studied the reverse-engineered Forerunner technology that was their weaponry. So of course long after the Great Schism the factions would have their own scientists & engineers learning & modifying designs to their own liking. That’s just logical.

Yet another thing they made hideous. Why? Do they have to put their special mark on everything?

sigh

It’s pointless stuff like this that drains my hype.

So I take it you were equally upset when Bungie made the Halo: Reach Banshee a stubby-winged nightmare?

JJAB91 was clearly referring to those who don’t care about the wraith’s appearance, not to those who like it.

Actually, I was, but at least Bungie kept its design more or less the same. The H5 wraith looks like an animal making a headstand with its butt in the air.

I see a bulbous, blue tank that shoots plasma in an arc. The only big difference is that there isn’t much in the back. And yet it still looks fine and it looks as though others agree. But if it something so minor lowers your hype, I give you my sympathy.

Minor in your opinion. Didn’t you just make a comment about narcissism, Halsey?

Thank you, but I do not need your sympathy. I think it’s best for us to just agree to disagree.

Well, I AM always right, so there. ;p

But nah, I get what you are saying, but I do have to ask if the Wraith’s appearance is really going to downgrade your experience that much? Are you going to visually critique it when people are shooting at you? It just boggles my mind how previous changes can be attributed to new models of things in canon, see the Reach AR and the different Brute designs, and it is accepted…with Bungie. Yet when 343 does the same thing it is laziness. Why? That’s all I want to know honestly.

In all honesty, it has nothing to do with 343i. When the iconic appearance of the brutes changed in Halo: Reach, I hated it. They no longer looked like primitive ape-like creatures, but instead looked like weird alien…things. I do understand why you might think that all this stuff is an anti-343i thing, though. Some people do like to hate on 343i just for the sake of doing so. But just because some people are like that doesn’t mean that everyone who complains about something is like that. And it’s not the wraith that’s draining my hype; it’s the small, unnecessary changes to iconic things that drains my hype, no matter who implements them.

My point is that this isn’t something I have against 343i and 343i only. It’s something I have against what I believe to be unnecessary change in general. I hope what I’ve said has provided a bit more clarity on why it is exactly that I’m a bit disappointed.

New image of the wraith.

As long as they have the classic version back in I’m fine but if not I’ll just find it odd as to why it exists.

So the Wraith now looks like a plasma-hurling battle scarab that brings death and misery to all in its wake. Awesome.
(Scarab as in the insect, not the weapons platform)
Wasn’t expecting to see this thread again, I admit.

I never gave thought to the Reach Brutes for some reason. Yeah, I hated that they looked like middle-aged naked fat guys, but I always assumed they were like Brute underlings that got shaved to symbolize their low rank or something.

I had no idea Bungie tried to retcon them into those…things. That would’ve sucked.

I don’t even remember what the reach brutes looked like.

yea i like the new design, it seems easier to produce which considering the fall of the covenant destroyed most of the support and production infrastructure available to the elites. so new designs are reasonable as long as it work the same i like it, if it works better i love it, if it works worse… at least it looks nice

Yeah, probably because they were only in like one or two levels lol. The standard ones were chubby, hairless apes in weird S&M outfits or something.

Oh my! What is that thing?! Its hideous! My eyes! They burn!!!
