So I’m a pretty avid Halo fan of the entire series. It’s all I ever used to play since 2002. That’s almost twenty years of Halo. And I would play it almost every day for many hours a day. So I know exactly what the Halo experience should be like. Except for Halo 5. And that is due to the failure of the Xbox one. So I switched back to PC. Now they have come out with the Xbox one X. But it’s too little too late. And now I hear reach is coming to PC. Along with the Master Chief collection. And though it is not out yet. Halo 5 forge world. Is out on PC. Super awesome I thought. At least 60 FPS at at least 2K. With detail settings all the way up. Should be pretty awesome right!. Sounded like the kind of thing I might start playing again every day. However. Unfortunately it seems the creators of Halo 5 or specifically Halo 5 forge world for PC. Have never played the game before. They were only tasked to try to recreate it. Because if they had. They would have immediately realized. That these are not the controls four controller on any of the previous Halo games. Now yes there are some similarities. But that is where it ends. And the thing is even if you’ve never played the game before. Logically speaking the controls make literally No Sense. But let’s assume that the developers have in fact played any of the previous Halo games before. What possible reason or excuse do they have for mutilating not only the default controls. But even all the other classic control styles. And okay let’s just say hey we’re doing Halo 5. We want to put our own spin on it. It’s our creation now. It’s going to be a little different. But they could have at least made the controls make sense. Automatically alienating your entire fan base. But whatever. That is not my primary concern.
My primary concern Is that if you’re going to have a default control that is different. You should have a Legacy Option. And even if you weren’t going to have one of those. Then anyone of the other optional control schemes available would still fit the bill. But NO. You changed every single one of them. And what’s worse especially for PC. You don’t have the option to create your own. That is a pretty simple and standard minimum ability of any PC game. And obviously this is not even available. I mean are you serious. Is this real. I mean I cannot be the only one with this issue. I can only imagine it is the entire fan base that is being alienated. I can also understand that there are additional functions requiring more buttons. Making the configuration different. However. You obviously have multiple functions grouped on the same button. Which means you could have just kept the same controls. And just added the additional new controls on another button. Just like it already is now. I mean there is literally no excuse for this. I cannot imagine any other reason. But one of purpose. Why you would purposefully alienate your entire fan base is beyond the scope of this communication. The fact remains that you have changed a very important part of the game. A part of the game that makes all the difference. You could say it’s the most important and primary part of any game. Literally the players interaction with the game. I mean you don’t have a game without that. How are you missing this. And even if you can’t understand that. Have the ability to customize all controls. You know the bare minimum of any PC game. Now I don’t know if the Xbox one X version of Halo 5 also suffers from this problem. But if it does. I’m positive that is a primary reason for how poorly Halo 5 did… In comparison to every single other Halo game on any platform.
Second Major Problem. Why are all the environments Worse. I repeat Worse then any other Halo game in existence. I mean I guess you can make the excuse if these were all new maps. But they are not. I mean original Xbox looked ten times better than this. Halo CE for PC. was the very worst looking Halo game ever. lol. Until now that is. Which is extremely weird when I 100% expected this to be the best looking Halo game I could have ever hoped to see. And it is literally the worst. And I’m playing with 8 cores @ 4.8 GHz. And a GTX 1080 TI. with 64 Gigs of DDR4 3300. So it is not my machine. And it looks worse than anything I can remember. So this seems like a real problem.
And all of this was in the first 30 seconds of entering the Halo 5 forge world for PC.
So as far as controls go. I would ask that you please just allow us to change every key to any key. And that at least 2 Modifier keys to be either asigned to any key. Or at least to the L1 button and L2 trigger.
And as far as any recommendations for how to improve graphical fidelity. Unfortunately that is not my area of expertise. But I know no textures when I see them. Or more specifically when I do not. I don’t know or care what you have to do to fix that. but if you want people to take you seriously. I suggest that you do.
Now if these are known issues. I apologize for wasting your time. And appreciate you taking the time to read this whole thing. But if these issues are not known to you please take them into consideration.
It has always been my intention to return to Halo. But I cannot in the state it currently exists. If you can correct these game-breaking issues. I will be purchasing and continuously playing every and any Halo content for PC. Map packs downloadable content etc. You can count on that revenue. And believe me when I say I am your primary demographic. And though I may be one person. I am not alone.
