What the Community Wants for a New Forge World. (343i please consider these ideas!)

Alright so everyone this will be the thread in which we discuss what should be in a new Forge World if 343i makes one for us.

These are the topic in which we will discuss:

-Where it should be.

-What should be in it.

-What new objects should be in it.

We will discuss all of these and be smart about it. Hopefully 343i is open to these ideas and will take these into consideration.

Now lets Begin.

Where it should be:

I dont know where it should be you tell me.

What should be in it:

Get some ideas.

What new Objects should be in it?

well…

-Weather Effects (RAIN IS A MUST!)

-Fuel Rod Shade Turret

-Troop Hog

-Transport Falcon (Passenger seats are usable)

-Assualt Falcon (Gun is usable)

Add what you want!

In terms of where it should be, I’d go with anywhere in the Halo universe we haven’t seen yet. Any place at all that 343i feels that they should let us see. Just a random place from the books. Whether it be on a separate planet or just an area that we never got to see before on a previous Halo game.(Maybe the human base camp on Installation 04?)

I’d like to have separate climate setting options. Make it snow, rainy, clear, or any other sort of climate. Make it to where we have a night and day setting. (Halo Custom Edition teams did this for people playing in game on a few maps. I’m sure they can do it on Reach for Forge World.)

Something else I’d like to see is texture options for whatever you’re building to have an overall theme set aside from it just being Forerunner constantly. I really like the look of it, but, it gets old after a while.

I would like to see those ammo shacks, maybe up to three. I dislike having to waste money on dropping AR’s and other weapons just so people can re-ammo up.

Different climates, rain, snow, winds.

my longshot request. The ability to add grunts. I want to make a map where I can battle neverending waves of grunts.
I know that this one is difficult to achieve, but I can still dream.

Eh, I wouldn’t say it’s hard to achieve. I’ve added AI to multiplayer maps on PC, so, I don’t think it would be a longshot to imagine that 343i could make it a part of Forge. It might be a completely different beast than what I did on Halo PC, but, I have faith in 343i’s abilities.

…I cant edit the OP because theres random letters out of nowhere in the way…

How about a forgeworld that covers all the area we want in one big map, i mean with that code that makes objects really faraway really cheap to draw embedded on the reach code,

anyway my idea is a forgeworld that has a snow area a tropical area and a savannah with climate weather patterns and themed objects to use in conjuction with said area

Piece o cake.

-It should have a Covenant or UNSC theme.
-Brighter lights.
-Weather and Time of Day effects.
-Ammo boxes
-More destructive/destroyed objects such as dead bodies, blood spatters, plasma/bullet scarring, broken doors, scrap metal. This will help give the maps we make more individual character.
-More little aesthetic objects that also help give the map character.
-Durable destructable objects. A door that takes a lot of damage before it breaks, wood planks that take several hits to take down, etc.
-Vehicles from the Campaign, such as civ vehicles, transport hogs, passenger and grenade launcher falcons, and maybe a return of the Spectre from halo 2?
-Aesthetic bipeds. They don’t have to have AI, but it sure would be nice to have some bipeds standing around.
-Switches and Triggers. This is a big one. I want a switch that can open a door, or lower a shield. I want to trigger an explosion in my map, or open a hatch. This would add SO much awesomeness to Custom Games =P.

That’s what I got.

Weather effects would be really cool because it would make the map look totally different with rain or sun or snow. We should also be able to use the old HALO: 3 maps because they were awesome!

Take out the Boundaries on Forge World and make a Transport Falcon.

> Take out the Boundaries on Forge World and make a Transport Falcon.

You cant add to forgeworld.

Location/Setting:
-Small mining colony of Turul or Csodaszarvas (one of Reach’s two moons). Abandoned due to an attack by a small Covenant strike force.

Size:
-About the size of Hemorrhage (height and length), pressurized compound with shield doors.

Options:
-Simple Textures on building blocks (basic colors and material i.e. wood/metal/concrete/etc)
-Covenant, Foreunner, and UNSC structures.

Extras:
-New toys (bowling pins, large tennis ball/racket, etc)
-3-5 Forge achievements

-Switches and Triggors

Remove the stuff that lags and make it less monotone.

> Remove the stuff that lags and make it less monotone.

The issue that makes Forge World lag, is what makes it Forge World in the first place, its massive size.

Bungie’s Level of Detail system isn’t perfect, and when you have to load large amounts of detailed graphics in the xbox’s memory in short periods of time, it lags the game.

That is why MLG closed off Asylum with all those walls, got rid of the long sight line down ‘Sniper Ally’, etc.

Yeah it’s long

Well I think we should first be asking for all of the future maps to take advantage of the new forge. It would solve a lot of problems everyone already has easily. That all said I’m not completely against forge worlds. I just don’t want them to be the only maps to take advantage of this new forge we have. Though if a new one has at least twice as much content as forge world had then I might give it a break.

Anyway on to the suggestions.

I don’t particularly mind what the theme is, though I very much like snow. Anyway I think if it were possible to do, is to have themes changeable. Preferably including the skybox.

As for the forge palette. I think the basics need to be covered first. Which is to say we need basic forms of all shapes and sizes. This is assuming they would be predetermined for us to use. If they were to allow us to adjust the dimensions and size of objects then they wouldn’t need to make a bunch of sizes. Anyway to clarify basic shapes are boxes, spheres, cylinders, and cones. Just give us these in either a variety of sizes or give us the ability to adjust them and we can build anything, or most anything.

After that the textures need to be figured out. My problem with forge worlds object textures is that they don’t go together well or consistently. They don’t all flow from one to the other, if that makes more sense. Anyway like what has been suggested already have basic textures based on materials. This is the easiest way to do it. Especially if we are going to be able to edit the dimensions of objects. Also make sure to get more than one type of material in, or color of material.

That would pretty much cover everything, but lets cover the rest. The ideas above would solve the need for most if not all geometry. Still though, having options we currently have would still be good. The most important reason is for speed of forging. You could build a bridge out of blocks or you could just spawn one. Another thing it could do is add detail easily.

Changes I’d like to happen to the structure categories. The first being decorative, lets have more things to decorate with for one. I’d also like them to have a more flexible function. The next category would be the natural category. Pretty much anything to add to the lonely rocks is fine with me. I specifically want the terrain itself to be forge able though. I not only mean being able to add to the existing terrain but also be able to delete it all. The other categories I don’t have much of a problem with, as they serve their intended purpose well. The only thing I’d say needs changed is the need for corner pieces(diagonally cut squares) and curved pieces.

Giving us these options above would solve most all of our needs. For if we were able to delete everything then we could essentially, and literally build our own maps. I’m also certain it would lag less as well. Anyway they have two ways of allowing this. The one I think everyone would prefer is literally having the ability to delete everything. All that would be left is the skybox, and possibly a flat surface. On a side note if it is done this way let us determine the barriers. Meaning no permanent restricting, aside from the skybox I believe. The other way they have of doing this is to have the whole map act like how foundry was built. You could delete everything until there was a pocket of forging space. All maps should do this honestly, but we are talking forge world so I’ll shut up. The box should be either as big as the whole level, or less preferably it would have a bunch of smaller forging areas spread throughout.

I think that about covers it all, well the actual geometry problem anyway. Other stuff like fx, toys, and lights should be a universal thing for maps. This includes things like possible weather effects, or anything else that is added that others would like in other maps. This way you aren’t forced to and disappointed by the fact that you have to use a certain map to have say the rain effect.

This I feel is the way it should be done. While I do enjoy forge world I find myself disappointed by the fact that no other maps have the same potential. Again it doesn’t need to be just forge worlds that do this but I digress.

I thought it would be cool to have a Human Forge World, you know, to kind of match up with the atmosphere with Reach. Here is why I think this:

The current Forge World pieces have too many varied patterns and team color changes on each piece is hard to see. In a Human Forge World, every basic block can have that concrete-looking feel like on Countdown and whenever you change the team color you actually change the color of the entire block like on Countdown.

With less pattern variation the maps would look more professional with the simpler blocks merged together. The walls can be metal and such.

I’d love an all Covenant World to be honest. That would be awesome.

The ability to resize objects on the maps for machinimas but it maybe be too hard to do on the engine I don’t know.

I just really hope 343i announces another forge map soon. Remember when all we had in H3 was basic editing then Foundry came along? It was awesome but it got old very fast. Then we got our first glimpse of Sandbox and everyone was drooling for it. I want the leap from forge world to whatever is next to be mouth dropping. I want to see the next thing for forge and be like OMG sold for $1000!

I made a thread over a Bungie with a poll for what theme you would like for a new Forge World.

I would appreciate it if you would just at least give it a look.

I’d really love a Covenant Forge World honestly. That would be amazing

I think that instead of having one big map they should make it more smaller maps so that the landscape can be different without looking wierd. I would really love if they brought sandbox back because I loved forging there on Halo 3. I also think that they should add an undo button that will undo the last thing you edited because I hate when I accidently delte things.

As for what they should have in it…
I think there should be different types of wheather like many of you have mentioned.
I also think that you should be able to shape the land so that you can creat hills or valleys or flatten it out whenever it i nessicary
I think it would be great if you could put trees in too
Another thing that I saw someone else post was that there should be switches to open doors or lower shields which I thought was genius. I hate having to rig some sort of fusion coil wall to make an actual door. All I want is a door that can be manually opened and closed.

So yeah that’s pretty much it for now
