What the community really wants

For over 12 years the halo franchise has captured the minds and hearts of casual and competitive players alike.

Bursting onto the scene back in 2001 Halo CE began the journey, followed in quick secession by Halo 2 and then the most successful single game ever sold to that date: Halo 3. Then ODST introduced us to firefight, the forerunner of the current spartan ops.

With the release of Reach, Armor abilities, Non-competitive playlists and ranks, along with the removal the iconic BR, and the implementation of bloom and flinch into matchmaking, drove the player base in the Halo community to an all time low. A year and a half into the release of Reach the average online player population was anywhere from 35-60 thousand players. While When Halo 3 was at the same place the player base was steadily hanging anywhere from 275-350 thousand players.

Now I have no degree in marketing, or business. But when you change your game and lose support(and a lot of money) wouldn’t you realize that something wasn’t working? Why would you strive to model another game after a failure? You shot yourselves in the foot, and in your ignorance asked if it would hurt just as much if you shot yourselves in the other foot.

Releasing halo 4 in its current status was a joke. And much more consideration should have been taken into making a game that in reality was a crucial point in the franchise. either winning players back or losing them for good. Now with the player base dropping again swift action must be taken to save this game and more importantly the future of halo. I have read many posts claiming if that nothing is fixed then halo 4 will be the last halo that they will by. I myself am in the same boat. bs angel has taken many steps to achieve this but progress is painstakingly slow. but fixing the none important problems like bugs and lighting etc. Is prolonging the gap to fixing the entire game and is driving players away by the day.

Which brings us to the real question: what do the dedicated competitive players want? listening to the casual players as you have has gotten you nowhere, so here is what we, as a community really want:

-Competitive Playlists an Ranks VISIBLE in game, not online.
-Nerfing of the all powerful DMR
-Flinch removed
-Un-scopeing upon being hit with ALL weapons
-Nerf Boltshot (Completed)
-Pro game variants but with radar.
-Remakes of past successful maps (not like Valhalla) Really? Valhalla?
-Symmetrical and Balanced maps
-Revamping of the BR/Carbine

These are the ideas I have found to be the most common in the community
Thanks for reading

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

The community doesn’t know what it wants. People continue to contradict themselves. What wrong with Valhalla? It was a great map THAT PEOPLE WANTED IN HALO 4. How do ou think the DMR should be nerfed and BR,Carbine revamped? Halo 4 is missing somethings and I can see why peole may be upset but I can live without them cause most of the things missing weren’t in CE PC(my first Halo game online). I believe Hao 5 will have the visable ranking people want. Hard to see descoping return though.

In my opinion valhalla was one of the last maps I would have chosen to bring back. when you have such great maps like the pit, construct and guardian why wouldn’t you? and yes, Un-Scoping needs to be removed from the game it makes the sniper and dmr too good.

So wait a couple years for a better game? 343i will have lost many more players by then…

OP here is your answer. Make Halo 2 Anniversary as it played after the final TU for Halo 2.
Problem solved.

I understand what you’re trying to get at but I feel you’re going about it the wrong way and here’s the link to why Food for thought for the Competitive

I dont care about the map packs. Nobody will ever play them, I never bought a Reach DLC and I felt like the people who did just left the other playlists to play with people who also have the money to throw away. Im perfectly fine with that. Thanks 343 for letting parents remove their kids from BTB so maybe I wont have a warthog roll straight into red base and get 4 plasmas stuck to it within 10 seconds.

I agree with your ideas, but it is too easy to see how this game could have been fixed. from casual and competitive players alike there was still more players on halo 3 than there was on reach or halo 4 taking into account the average player population at any point.

Reach never had flinch ya know…

The problem is, osme of the stuff you want is hard-coded into the game, so an update would require and almost complete re-installation of the game. Now, the average person could not be bothered to spend 1 hour+ reinstalling something they already had.
