I love Stronghold and I dislike Total Control. In Stronghold, the game is always moving but in Total Control, the game is block when no team arrives to take the control of the three zones and that quickly demotivates me. It’s just a big slayer mode with some meeting areas for the players .
I really hope one day 343 will bring back stronghold to BTP like in the previous games.
As for King of the hill and Land Grab, they’re cool but they will never replace Stronghold in my heart.
Land grab is designed to be suicidal with the quick capture times, it can be very aggravating.
KOTH is better with the long capture time, but I think I prefer the traditional cumulative time over securing points.
Total control can be fun, but I’ve been falling away from btb more and more in general. I think 12v12 is too much for me and objective modes just feel like a bunch of random headless chickens running around doing whatever.
KOTH is my favorite all-time, but it’s been altered to the point where it feels more like territories. Like the hill only moves once it’s captured, not after a set time. So can’t surrender a few seconds from the current hill and get ready to rush the new one.
I thick TC is great on Fragmentation, but that’s it. Breaker could be great but the triple zone in the zone completely stalemates the game every time. IDK if I’ve ever seen a team cap those.
Land Grab needs shorter respawns or longer capture times. Basically if you get kill while fighting for a zone, that zone is capped before you even respawn (especially on Behemoth and Launch Site). It plays poorly on symmetrical maps IMO. Also I was hoping 3 zone would always be up to keep players scattering around, but instead, it turns into a brief mosh pit every round.
I’ve never been big on strongholds, but it’s probably the best functioning zone control mode in right now.
Definitely agree with you here! I am still holding out hope for the return of the classic KoTH scoring system in online matchmaking. It was immensely popular for so many years, why in the world would you change it?
They said that you can still utilize the classic KoTH scoring timer in Custom Games, but it really seems like it would be more appropriate to do just the opposite. If the sweaty HCS kids like the new scoring system, they can have it for their tournaments. Let us keep the one that people have loved from the very beginning!

I actually like total control - but largely because it’s a large team (i generally prefer BTB). Playing it with friends gives me a sense of coordination and teamwork. Stalemates tend to occur, but it makes it more satisfying when a breakthrough happens.
That was during the season where btb was broken, and most of my friends eventually left. Now Landgrab’s pretty fun.

Stronghold is on the top, but we can only play it in Quick mode, when we have the chance to get it in the playlist. 343 should put stronghold more often in Quick mode and bring it back to Big Team Battle !
Since the game launched I’ve always found BTB total control to be god awful. Stalemates drag on for too long and just end up being a 16 minute game of slayer.
Oddly enough, I haven’t really enjoyed any of the standards KotH modes I’ve played in this game as of yet. My Team just feels like once you lose a point, you’re put at a huge disadvantage. Not just by the fact that enemy team now probably has better weapons options and placement. But the Hill spawns are either often right on top of one another after one is capped, or are always super predictable, all probably due to the size of the level.
I guess I just don’t like this game mode compared to how other games handle it. Can’t really put my finger on how I’d change it either.
I’ll probably think of something more solid hours after I post this lol but off the top of my head, I feel like the new random spawns shouldn’t appear as “incoming” for so long - I feel like it might work better if there was less time to plan and hunker down and wait (although maybe that’s a strategy I could work on on my end, idk, im not a dev or a pro lol)
It does feel like none of the maps were created with a control type mode in mind either. Bigger maps sometimes it’s impossible to traverse the distances in time to acquire a point or even prevent the other team from capturing it. Catalyst is fun but its layout is extremely complex and it can make the navigating really difficult especially if you’re not so great at the parkour. I’d love to see a map that was designed specifically for control modes.
