Star Wars Battlefront trailer got like 9 million views in less than a day. Do people want to blow the -Yoink- out of each other in huge Star Wars maps in the hugest sci-fi franchise ever, or do they want to play Halo 5: Halo 2 gameplay edition, with NO damn changes at all. The industry IS evolving. I’m a die-hard Halo fan, but at this point Star Wars Battlefront seems like it will lead player population for quite some time after its launch. Halo 5 is NOT bad because I can run faster in Halo 5. Not because I can aim more accurately with an assault rifle from 500 years in the future. It’s because Star Wars Battlefront is *Fresh, *New, and *Exciting. Running 5mph and jumping with the floatiest physics of all time in Guardian, just isn’t as fun as it used to be. I’m glad for the few changes that 343i DID make. I DON’T WANT THE SAME GAME JUST WITH BETTER GRAPHICS.
There are are probably two absolute main types of Halo fans. Ones with elastic and inelastic demand. My demand for Halo is pretty much inelastic, because I WILL continue to play them for perhaps the greatest sci-fi saga in gaming (Why Halo Combat Evolved got so many game of the year awards in the first place). Then there are elastic Halo fans. If they are short on money, they are likely to chose other games. My friend would fall into this category, because he decided to buy Blackops instead of Reach. Halo can’t ONLY be exclusive to purists, or it won’t even stay relevant. There are people who don’t give a damn about Star Wars, but they really want Star Wars Battlefront. I want new people to have the same enthusiasm for NEW Halo games with NEW stuff. All I’m saying, is don’t hold Halo back, just because you were 13 when Halo 2 came out 10 years ago. Millions of people aren’t going to line up at midnight for a reskinned Halo 3, but they will do so for Star Wars and other games that are pushing the industry forward.
People are lining up for SWBF3 because they’ve been waiting for over a decade for a sequel to BF2 to come out. In addition, many people have many fond memories of playing BF1 and 2, so nostalgia (ironic, isn’t it?) is actually playing a huge part in the hype. There’s also the new Star Wars movie, which is another factor.
With Halo 5 on the other hand, there’s really nothing nostalgic about it. I didn’t feel any fond memories of classic Halo rush back to me when I saw/played the beta, in fact I found more things in common between the beta and COD than I did with classic Halo. Yeah, there’s equal starts, but now we have perma-armor ablilities super glued to our Spartans on spawn.
In a way, classic Halo fans have also been waiting for almost a decade for a classic Halo game to come out, because ever since Reach (or Halo 4 for some), Halo hasn’t really been the same (not like it ever was with each game), and the games that followed after Halo 3 were such a huge departure from the way Halo used to be, and it isn’t seen positively by everyone.
Battlefront fans are hungry, they’ve been starving for a new game and because of that they’re probably going to be less likely to complain about new changes. They’ll take what they can get. They’re also expecting improvements over the previous games, which had a lot of significant balancing issues that made some matches very one sided depending on the map and faction you were playing. The Halo franchise is different, because we’ve gotten a game every 2-3 years, which gives us more to work with. It allows us to compare newer titles to previous titles in the franchise a lot more easily, and figure out which changes we found to be good, and which ones were bad/unnecessary. Battlefront fans will be doing this too, but with only two other games to compare BF3 to, the criticism won’t be nearly as high as it is for Halo.

I LITERALLY saw comments that say “I’ve never cared for Star Wars, but this looks f****** awesome!” Hell, my own friends who are giant COD boys who ALSO don’t even care about Star Wars, are super hyped for it.

Well, star wars reaches to a wide audience. Even people who don’t care about it at least know about it or have heard about it.
What OP doesn’t understand is that very few actually want a reskinned Halo 3.
I and those who agree with me want Halo to change, but we do not see the whole point in making unessecary changes, i.e the iconic RL to a tube we basically use today.
Or the direction it currently takes. Meaning that we see no reason for Halo to do what other games are doing just because a majority of those games are doing it. Halo 4 ring any bells? Perhaps SS/ADS?
The only thing I see is you saying that being against one or two changes means those people are against all changes.
On the other hand, you may as well appear to me as a person who accepts and praises whatever is on a Halo disc.
So the industry is evolving? Does that then mean all games in the same genres must take the same general path with the same general features?
What does forward mean exactly? So far it’s been the same stuff from game to game.

Nah. That’s just the lowly scum of YouTube trying to milk likes from supporters of the game. It makes them feel popular and relevant.

Yeah, but when you consider that Halo hasn’t been getting a lot of NEW fans and players, it makes sense that new stuff would be more likely to attract them. I also know people who despised Halo 4, who absolutely can’t wait for Halo 5, because equal starts are back, but they felt it was more fun because it was fast paced. One of my friends is a mega COD fanboy, and we straight up played the Halo 5 beta all day.

Can you make at least ONE post on here without projecting Halo 5 hatred onto everyone? Holy crap. There are people that honestly don’t care about Halo 5’s mechanics. There are.
Go find some diehard Battlefront players, and tell them they don’t want a re-skinned Battlefront 2. It will be funny. Seriously go do it. Show them how much YOU know about the industry…
The main selling point of the new Battlefront is all the returning features, not the new ones.
lol
H2’s biggest competition was Battlefront and H2 crushed it.
Bigger is not always better. Sometimes, tight, personal gameplay is more enjoyable than huge impersonal MP.
But alas, we have a Halo COD destiny mash up so battlefront will crush it.

How do you know it hasn’t gained new fans and players? Basically every game has a decline in population, that doesn’t however mean there are no new fans or players. There are a few exceptions, as far as I’m concerned, DotA and LoL are growing, so I’ve heard about CS:GO as well. None of these feature new things. As has been mentioned before aboute CoD:AW, it’s losing population, haven’t looked that up though so I can’t be sure. How does it make sense that new stuff would attract new players? I’m more inclined to believe a well put together and smoothly running game will attract more players than new flash and bling bling. At this very moment, I’m contemplating buying a PS4 just to play Bloodborne, a game a few of my friends have who are all in agreement that it’s difficult but very smooth and details are thought through, which makes it fun for them.
Good for you and your friend then. Can’t say the same for me or my nephew. There’s a lot of things I question regarding the decisions made in Halo 5, both visual things as well as gameplay things.
As for Star Wars Battlefront, I’m unsure how that in any aspect “moves the industry forward”. Then again, I can’t really find anything on that game which in a good way describes what’s new in it. To me, it sounds like Battlefront II minus a lot of different modes and factions, and a 40 player cap.

Battlefront also came out a year after Halo 2 so I don’t think it’s exactly fair to compare their population. Also Halo 2 was the first Xbox live game so more people owned it already and had invested time into the multiplayer. I also wouldn’t say it crushed battlefront.

Probably has something to do with the fact that every Halo player I come across is like 20 years old. I never thought I’d say this, but Halo could sure use more kids. Even at the midnight launch for Halo 4, there were maybe two kids, and everyone else were freaking neck beards.

It’s because COD boys and the like are easily attracted to flashy cinematics which is the only thing they’ve shown so far. I myself am a HUGE battlefront fan but I won’t buy or preorder this battlefront till I’ve seen and played actual gameplay myself. Same would go for Halo 5, I played the beta and didn’t enjoy it so I won’t be buying it. Unless it comes out, it’s fully functioning, I play it at a friend’s place and actually enjoy it, I will not purchase it. Don’t get drawn in by flashy cinematics and gimmicks.

News flash, the average age of a gamer is 31, in 2014.
And what does that even have to do with anything about this OP? What does age even have to do with anything?
What about the industry moving forward? What about the forward direction? What about not wanting Halo 3 reskinned and not Halo’s current direction either? What about “Battlefront moving the industry forward”? Where are the descriptions on what’s new? At this point this thread is a rant based on predjucies and assumptions.

It did crush battlefront population wise. And yes Battlefront came out a year later. Which makes it even worse.

I also know people who despised Halo 4, who absolutely can’t wait for Halo 5, because equal starts are back, but they felt it was more fun because it was fast paced. One of my friends is a mega COD fanboy, and we straight up played the Halo 5 beta all day.

Then again, I can’t really find anything on that game which in a good way describes what’s new in it. To me, it sounds like Battlefront II minus a lot of different modes and factions, and a 40 player cap.

What about “Battlefront moving the industry forward”? Where are the descriptions on what’s new? At this point this thread is a rant based on predjucies and assumptions.
Well, that age includes PC gamers, mobile gamers who play for a few minutes, and more. The majority of people in the U.S. play games, but I can safely say that the average Cod and Halo players are NOT 31. Halo NEEDS newer younger fans. If 31 year olds didn’t play Halo CE in 2001, they won’t be likely to play it now. Halo needs young new fans. Period.

> Battlefront also came out a year after Halo 2 so I don’t think it’s exactly fair to compare their population. Also Halo 2 was the first Xbox live game so more people owned it already and had invested time into the multiplayer. I also wouldn’t say it crushed battlefront.
[Xbox Live launched November 15 2002
](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Live)[Halo 2 launched November 9 2004
](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_2)Without looking at anything written about XBL’s launch or accessing any memories from that time, I seriously doubt Microsoft would launch Xbox Live 2 years before any game was made for that service.
It’s funny OP is saying Battlefront is a prime example of industry evolution when SW Battlefront DICE is looking like it is literally just a remake of Star Wars Battlefront 1 with even LESS content.
You’re all grasping at straws. This whole community is. The cold, hard truth is this:
Halo’s days of fame and glory are behind it.
Halo isn’t the top dog anymore, and it won’t be again. It hasn’t been the giant it was since Halo 3, and it’s time we all accepted that. The entire FPS genre isn’t as popular as it was, and Halo isn’t even in the top three most popular shooters these days. We need to start treating Halo the same way most video game fans treat their favourite games, and stop desperately thinking up a way to claw back a crown that was taken almost a decade ago.
Sure, Battlefront 3 is pretty hyped, but that’s because it’s been away, I guaruntee Battlefront 4 won’t have anywhere near the same level of hype.
Dude… I want a re skinned SWB2…
