WHAT SHOULD BE IN HW2, IMO.

Just a few things that I wished were implemented in the last game, and should be in the next one.

Seeing that others are talking about the problems about zooming, resource management complexity, how they should of kept a large sum of the game similar to the last game, etc. I thought I would point out some nice things that I thought should have been in the last game, or some adjustments to some things in their last game, which I believe people would very much enjoy as options in Halo Wars 2.

Firstly, I so wished that they had split screen as an option even though they had system link, mainly for playing co-op campaign or skirmish with a friend on the same console which was impossible from what I can remember in the first Halo Wars. I believe one needed two discs, two accounts, two consoles, and to system link or play online for people to play even the campaign with a friend. It was disheartening to figure out this when trying to think of something to do with a friend, and since all these things were required to play the game it kind of pushed me away from the game even when wanting to play offline. Also, having an option on horizontal or vertical screen settings for split-screen came up in a conversation below this post which I think would be a nice option as well.

Secondly, I loved the Auto-scaling for Skirmish in the first game since one didn’t have to play against set difficulty AI’s and they would adjust to one’s own skills. I personally could get the Auto-scaling to roughly [97], which to me was slightly tougher than Legendary. I can’t remember if I started to get bored at this point when I got it to [97] or deterred by the lack of options to play with people offline due to having no split-screen. I really hope they implement this mechanic into Halo Wars 2, since I found it quite fun to be able to push the limits of the AI.

Thirdly, even though the Auto-scaling was great, it had one problem that I could see. One could not play with others on the difficulty Auto-scaling setting, which the game would only give the preset difficulties for skirmish with others in your game. One was forced, if they wanted to use the Auto-scaling, to play up against AI’s only, which is why I said previously that I started to get bored just play with or against AI’s when getting the scaling to roughly [97].

If the developers could see these suggestions and actually implement them, I think players would enjoy having these options for sure.

Split-screen won’t work for a RTS game.

Well, then that sucks if that is true. The auto-scaling would be fun to have in it still.

It’s not like I am thinking it would work in multiplayer, but having the option to play with a friend on one console would be a great little pass time, playing some campaign, maybe some skirmish. Could someone elaborate on why split-screen wouldn’t work?

Screen will be too small and can affect performance of the game.

It really depends on your screen on whether the screen will be too small or not, and on what too small is to each person, personally if one really wanted to play it bad enough they would make due with what screen they have. I have a 27in. screen here and it would do fine with split-screen, whether it split horizontally or vertically in which if there was an option to choose between those two splits would be nice as well. Some people might have a much larger screen as well which would be even better for game play. For one’s with smaller, like I said before on if they want to play bad enough they will make due. Having it as an option I still think would be great.

The idea that it can affect performance of the game compared with the idea that it will effect performance on the game is up to how they would put it in and how it may effect the game play when implemented. But if it is a minor affect on the performance then I don’t see much of an issue with having split screen as an option. Could you elaborate on how it can effect the performance of the game, and maybe on how much it is expected to effect it?

Does anyone else have any thoughts on these concepts?
