I’ve already stated the aspects of Halo 5 which i feel needs to change for it to be a better game in a different topic, but here are some things which i feel would make it FEEl better, and may make it become the best Halo yet. These are mainly just nitpicks, but i feel they are favoured by most of the community as a change that needs to occur.
Sound Effects - I don’t have too much of a gripe towards the effects, but it would just be preferable if they were changed. Back in the original trilogy of Halo games, every weapon and sound effect was distinguishable from one another. But weapons like the BR and the DMR sound too similar, and from across the map you wouldn’t know which one was which. I feel like the BR needs to have more of a clear 3 shot burst effect, as of now it sounds like a single shot is being fired.
The sound effects have also been reduced to general beeps occurring everywhere. I don’t mind the hit marker sounds too much, but it does contradict the more competitive style of gameplay, by showing the player when they have hit the enemy, instead of the player being more skilled, and knowing when they have been hit. But mainly, i want to hear the classic shield recharge sound, i swear i could listen to the classic recharge sound all day and i couldn’t get tired of it. But in Halo 5, its been changed into a monotone high pitched screech, which isn’t as pleasing for the ears. If this was changed, I’m sure i, and many other people, would be very happy, and it would make it feel generally more like Halo.
Elites - this isn’t so much of a problem for me, but many of the community have an issue with not having elites in multiplayer. I don’t mind the way the avatar of the player is represented as long as its customisable, but i will agree that having Elites in multiplayer would make it seem more unique, and would be compared less with other shooters like COD or Battlefield, and more with Halo 2 and 3, which I’m sure 343i wants.
Classic Music - The soundtrack for Halo 5 already sounds fantastic and like it will be returning to the Halo 2 style of music, but i will say, id like to see a return of some classic tracks. I think many people felt Halo 4’s soundtrack was missing something, and that was original music. The amount of people that were happy with Never Forget being in Halo 4 is huge, so if 343i was too add more classic tracks, it would make many more people happy with the product, and more people would also purchase the soundtrack to hear remakes of classic tracks from years gone past. My main problem with the soundtrack in Halo 4, was its lack of probably one of the most iconic pieces of music heard in a video game, the original Halo theme. I don’t know what 343i was thinking when they removed this, but it was a terrible idea, and the classic theme needs to be implemented in the final game, and not just 5 seconds of it in the campaign.
Better UI - I think the best UI in a Halo game was Halo 3’s. It was easy to understand, and well planned out. The Beta’s menu was very dark and hard to understand. Especially when trying to customers your spartan, it doesn’t give the user a good view of their avatar. People prefer brighter, more dramatic menu’s. People remember opening up there classic Halo’s to a dramatic background with a bright UI and memorable, soft, orchestral music. Halo 4’s menu music got annoying, fast. And it will get boring looking at a room aboard a ship. Its not interesting, and it just feels uninspired.
I hope the metro system that was used in the playlist section of the Beta will not return. If there was an extensive amount of Playlists, it will get to the point when some of the playlists are off screen, making the choice of game type just annoying to select as you’ll have to scroll through the entire menu just to see what playlists are there. The top to bottom design seen in previous games is flawless, and does not need changing. This may not be seen in the final game as its just been seen in the Beta, but i really do hope it is not there.
Smart Scope accuracy - Going back and playing previous Halo’s, accuracy is not improved nearly as much as it is in Halo 5. I don’t mind smart scope, as long as its aesthetic, which 343i said it was. This was not true for the Beta, as it did improve accuracy. I have found several people relying on Smart Scope in combat, and 343i stated that ‘if people feel the need to always be scoped in, we’ve broken the game’. If the accuracy was toned down then it would be better, and less people would rely on it to get a kill.
Bullet magnetism also contradicts the point of removing a large portion of auto aim. I love that they toned down auto aim to make it more competitive, but while doing this, they’ve upped the bullet magnetism, making it just as easy to get a kill as it would be in other Halo’s. If the bullet magnetism was toned down to match the auto aim, there would be a clear definition between skilled players, and learners.
This was only my general gripes with the gameplay, not things i feel NEED’s top be changed, because i already feel like Halo 5 may be one of the best Halo’s competitively to come out for a long time. These are just things i think many people would favour, which would in the end, make more people like the game, meaning more sales of the product, and more people would play the game.
What do you think should be added into Halo 5 to make it better?
