What’s the MCC and how can I play?

Everyone is talking about playing the old Halos in the MCC. At first I thought they were just talking about the old games themselves, but then I realized it is something else. I looked it up in the game store on my Xbox one, and it came up, but it said it was unavailable. Is this a PC thing or something?

MCC is on Xbox and yeah they are the old games but it’s campaigns and multiplayers.

The MCC, which stands for the Master Chief Collection, is a collection of each first person shooter Halo game excluding Halo 5. This includes every campaign, all their difficulties, and each multiplayer, which can be mixed and matched when searching. Additionally, each game has a small amount of bonus content! This includes:

  1. Halo: Combat Evolved:
    • Optional Anniversary Graphics for the campaign,
    • Weapon skins for multiplayer and the classic campaign,
    • Campaign skulls and terminals to activate and find,
  2. Halo 2
    • Optional Anniversary Graphics for the campaign,
    • Recreated multiplayer from Halo 4’s engine, featuring a small amount of new weapons and game options,
    • Forge options for 2: Anniversary multiplayer,
    • New collectibles: Dolls and terminals,
    • Additional skulls, brand new to Halo 2
  3. Halo 3
    • New Multiplayer Maps,
    • New armor cosmetics,
    • A few new skull options,
    • Weapon skins, for both multiplayer and singleplayer,
  4. Halo 3: ODST
    • Two new character cosmetic options,
    • New Firefight options - including fighting the Flood
    • A few new skull options,
  5. Halo: Reach
    • New cosmetic options,
    • New Forge options,
  6. Halo 4
    • A few new cosmetic options,
    • New Forge options,

They are additionally available on both Steam, Windows PC, and on modern Xbox consoles, including the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Playing on Xbox like I need to stick in the old disk? Or is this downloadable and how much does it cost?

Does it track my previous unlocked content through Halo waypoint or are we starting completely over again?

On Xbox digital costs $40 USD and will require a gold subscription which is an additional cost. Digital will include all games in the collection including Reach and ODST campaigns which were added as DLC. If you have a physical disc you can still use it, but note you may have to purchase ODST and Reach’s campaigns for a combined total of $15 USD.

It will not track any previous unlockables from prior games. Everyone starts over again, that said it’s not hard to reunlock everything from the older titles.

Usually first party titles go on sale pretty frequently on Xbox, so if you a wait a bit you could snag the MCC for pretty cheap.

My gold just expired a couple of months ago, so I guess that’s why it’s not available to me now. I’ll I have to get the gold pas again this fall I guess.

If I have the disk, why would I need to purchase the game again? The disks have the campaigns on them.

If you have the disc you should be good to go. Reach and ODST were added to the collection after launch, their campaign data isn’t on disc. You will have access to Reach’s multiplayer, but not the campaigns or FF.

Have the campaigns changed since the original release?

Aside from technical upgrades like 60fps and 1080 - 4K resolution, nothing has been changed regarding the story. If you like achievements you will be locked out of a couple hundred, but you can always buy the campaigns at a later point if you really want to go back. If you are going the game pass route, game pass will include all DLC for the MCC.

If you mean you have the discs for the original games and not the MCC itself then you will need to rebuy them as the MCC is essentially it’s own game, you can choose which ones you can buy I’m pretty sure (at least that’s how it works on the pc version). If you are playing it on PC you don’t need a gold sub just an active MS account.

I got MCC on sale on Steam for 17$ or 20$ i think. But I have the option on PC to download certain titles. Either multiplayer only or campaign. Pretty niffty. Been playing through the Campaigns again and its a blast. Starting on Reach and goin all the way to 4. Been many years since Ive picked up Halo and played the old games and im so happy i can have all of them in one spot

They are also objectively (in my subjective opinion ) the greatest value in gaming.

OP, as an fyi, Reach and ODST are premium DLC add ons ($5 each I believe)

Reach is $10 and ODST is $5 USD, at least on the Xbox store.

I might have to delete Halo infinite to free up space for it, but it sounds worth it so far.

Definitely a better value than Halo Infinite right now at least until Infinite adds way more content, custom game fixes and forge. Plus as it stands right now there is over 1000 pieces of armor you can unlock for free across all the games (unless they decide to add the MTX option to the store to buy points) by just playing the game.

I’d recommend deleting something else, but that’s just me. Infinite’s got its issues, but it does have a lot more playlist variety and game types available now then at launch, and it doesn’t seem to be actively getting worse every day at least.

I’m also someone who still has H5 installed too though, ssssooo there’s that

And even if you don’t like that, it’s got a really fun campaign. I felt like it was the best since Halo 3: ODST.

Not buying the campaign till split screen coop is released.

Interestingly enough I also didn’t get Halo 5 because of no split screen coop, and since the MCC doesn’t have Halo 5 I’m over here dodging Halo’s with no split screen coop like Neo.

I was in the same situation, I skipped that whole console generation because of that and a fair amount of reviews on Steam show users refunded the title due to lack of split-screen.

The history of split-screen on PC and player involvement is really strange - for each seasonal update the Master Chief Collection received, there was a dedicated feedback thread, and split-screen was one of the most consistent feedback. Postums documented it so it could go to higher ups, and then topic posts regarding it were locked because it was supposedly coming.

The forums were revamped, and there’s been silence since.

Then, a while back, I logged a support ticket for it because none of the information on split-screen addressed it on PC. To which the support team said it wasn’t going to be included. I posted the sad news elsewhere, it blew up, then Farn, a Master Chief Collection developer, saw it and said it would be addressed in a community post later.

The post was locked, and there’s been silence since.
