Frank O’Connor expressed that a large map will be remade and launched with the disc. What map would you most like to see return to our nostalgic doorstep?
"Halo 4 only includes one map remake. I know what it is. It is good. It will cause the least drama of any new thing. It is NOT small."
Frank O’Connor (Twitter)
"Kids are reading this right now and trying to guess what the BIG remake map is based on this clue: Carta De Oaxaca."

If you Google, “Frank O’Connor Carta de Oaxaca”, there’s a NeoGAF post by Frankie, recommending restaurants near PAX. One of the restaurants he recommends is Carta de Oaxaca, and he talks about fish and seafood a lot. Longshore was fishy, and had a fish taco shack on the boardwalk.
Or perhaps, this was simply a sarcastic remark, touching on the absurdity of fans trying to guess the map based off of a mere restaurant recommendation.
I have my personal suspicions that Sandtrap might be remade to utilize the “Mamoth” (Elephant) asset 343 spent so much time configuring and assembling due to all of our “kicking and screaming” during Reach’s infancy. They also showed a sand level of the campaign, so I know they wouldn’t have to create any additional terrain. But I’d like to hear what you think the map will be.
As long as we’re on the subject, can someone please link me to the Bulletin that Frankie discusses La Carta de Oaxaca. I think I’m pretty close to figuring it out, but I need access to that Bulletin and I can’t find it anywhere.
If they’re going about this the same way they did with the Halo CEA map pack, then any thing from Reach and Halo 3 will not be remade.
As for sand trap and the Mammoth, the Mammoth vehicle is larger than the elephant there would be no room for two mammoths on any playable map in Halo, if anything, we’re more likely to see a Mammoth permently parked to be used as a base of sorts.
Just uploaded the info from Frank’s hint: Carta De Oaxaca. I didn’t include Longshore in my poll:-/ This is a Mexican restaurant…I still think it’s Sandtrap.
I’m hoping waterworks is the map. Oh, those Halo 2 glory days… if not that then I hope to god it is containment. Those were the best two halo btb maps if you ask me.
Although “waterworks” is one of Frank’s favorite maps of all time I don’t think it will be remade. He said in an interview that Longbow is a combination of “Waterworks” and “Avalanche”. So why remake a map that already has a successor?
It’s been done before though. “Lockout” returned to Halo 3 when “Guardian” was it’s successor. “Last Resort” arrived after “Zanzibar’s” successor “Highground”.
Halo 2 gets too much love. I’m not saying it doesn’t deserve love because it was a great game, but Halo 2 was not the greatest game in all the universe. Halo 3 and Halo Reach both have several remade Halo 2 maps so now it’s time for Halo 2 to share some love with Halo 3 which is also a great game. The whole argument of not making Halo 3 maps because it’s still playable is a load of crap as well. Halo 3 had Halo 2 maps added to it when Halo 2’s multiplayer was still playable so I don’t see why Halo 3 can’t have maps added to Halo 4. Halo 3’s population is already lower than Reach’s, just imagine how low it will get after Halo 4 comes out.
I’m going with the Sandtrap people because I had a blast playing BTB on that map.
It’s gotta be a big map though, those are the ones that are the most difficult to forge. Both Waterworks and Sandtrap are damn near impossible to forge without frame rate issues or looking like crap.
