After Halo reach I got into Halo 4. Quickly realized how bad it was. I actually dropped Halo for a really long time because of the direction 343 went in with Halo 4.
Fast forward to the Halo 5 beta and I was hooked. I was actually excited for Halo again since halo reach.
A lot of it had to do with the thruster pack. Out playing someone with the thruster pack quickly became one of my favorite things in video games.
Why? Because it allowed you show off high IQ plays.
I’m not asking for Halo infinite to have a thruster. What I am saying is that there is no “out play potential”. All the fights are static now. Since you can’t Sprint and shoot the only thing you can do is walk and shoot. This creates really stale one sided gun fights.
If I see you first and I don’t miss. I win.
If someone sees me first and they don’t miss. They win
Strafing doesn’t do much when the BR is easy to use. And it means even less under strong aim assist.
And then even if. You win the battle more often than not you come out of the battle one shot which means easy pickings for the next person you fight.
The thruster pack allowed you to avoid damage, kill some one, and move on to the next person. This made it far more accessible to more multi kills and higher IQ plays.
Overall my basket of tricks have been dwindled down to basic walk and strafe movement. It’s really really boring because ALL the fights are the same. Peek shoot. Get one shot. Back up. Peek shoot again. Gets kill. Moves forward. Rinse and repeat. The “out play potential” is missing in this game.
And yes I get it. Equipment exists but that’s not how the game is played the whole time. Most of the time you don’t have equipment and even if you do the fights become even more one sided.
Halo 5 was the only game where I feel like I’m actually using my brain to think. In halo infinite I feel brain dead. Doing the same repetitive routes and gameplay.
For a video game does it play bad? No. As a shooter. Sure. It does just fine, but I miss having to think about my next move more critically. I miss the high IQ plays. I miss the risk reward that you got when using the ablities. I miss actually learning something new. With Halo infinite I already learned how to move. I mean comon we are all use to Sprint, clamber, slide. We all know what moves can be done with those. That’s the thing to. Most shooters nowadays use the Sprint, slide, clamber thing so it’s even more boring because I come from other games and then jump on Halo and it’s the same exact gameplay aside from shielding up.
My friend jokes all the time and says Halo : limited because that’s exactly what it feels like. It feels limited. Like a have a ball and chain attached to my foot.
