WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO THE FALCON

(Please read the whole thing before calling me stupid. If you finish and still think I’m wrong, then go ahead.
Right. So, we saw not long ago that the new vehicle was an upgraded Phaeton variant. Everybody seems to think that’s all there is to it. But here’s the thing. 343 aren’t completely stupid. They knew we wanted the Falcon. It was all over the forums and YouTube. Obviously that doesn’t mean they were going to implement it. However, I think it’s fair to say they knew we would assume the vehicle REQ covered by an ONI symbol was a Falcon, given that both they and the community know how much we wanted it. So why raise our hopes with an ONI symbol (a human organisation no less) and then disappoint us with a Phaeton variant? As I said earlier, I think they knew we would assume it was a Falcon. I think they also knew the community would be less angry if they had just shown us a Phaeton from the start, or even just covered it with something other than an ONI symbol. I think that a Falcon was in development, but they ran into complications while developing and/or testing the vehicle. We have to keep in mind how complex the programming for something like this is - physics, models, animations, all sorts. We need to understand that the ratio between how satisfying and complex we perceive a feature to be and how difficult it was to program isn’t 1:1.
In summary, I strongly believe that the Falcon was going to be implemented into Halo 5 with the Memories of Reach update but had to be cancelled and replaced with a Phaeton variant for whatever reason. It just makes no sense for 343 to raise our hopes with an promising ONI symbol that suggests a significant human vehicle and then reveal a Promethean vehicle that hardly warranted all the mystery and hype. 343 might have made decisions in the past which angered and frustrated the community, but the majority of these decisions have been in the best interests of business. In that regard, the lack of a Falcon is an outlier - it makes no sense for both fan service and business. I think the only logical conclusion is that the Falcon had to be scrapped due to development issues.

it’s all just speculation at this point, unless they make an official comment, people are going to be seriously annoyed

whatever reason = it’s probably just too weak for h5’s sandbox

I didn’t want the falcon

Yeah, because altering the vehicles properties is out of the question. (sarcasm)

Meh. Phaeton is ok in my books. Even though I’ve yet to ever use one =D

I don’t think they removed it before the update. Probably months ago if you’re right but these are all speculations…a new Phaeton variant was certain because of the new bosses (red prometheans) .

Although many were expecting the falcon, there’s nothing preventing 343 from just implementing 1 new req in to the game a couple weeks after this update goes live. Anyway an updated phaeton is kind of needed, there too easily shot out of the sky by a splaser or sniper.

It takes a couple weeks to make even a 2-D game. An entirely new vehicle would take longer.

did I say that? Of course they have to alter it compared to reach, but apparently it was no good

343i happened. As usual, they misread what the community wanted and opted for cosmetic REQs over worthwhile weapons and vehicles.

Here we go with the “making video games is hard” argument again…

It is difficult though. To create a whole new vehicle could take a month or more.

I wouldn’t say the Falcon was ultimately “scrapped”. Just maybe, postponed.

It’s a asset that most likely doesn’t exist in the engine most likely, the devs that are left are here to make sure the game functions. It’s all they can do.

Just because it take time doesn’t mean it’s difficult. 343 are professionals with 20+ years of experience in game development. No one’s asking them to completelychange the game. Just add in a vehicle.

I’d like to direct you to the Halo modding community for Halo: CE on pc. A group known as CMT, have been able to completely change the way the game plays. Look up their SPV3 campaigns, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. This is a group of modders who work on their free time, and yet, with nowhere near the budget, man power, and other resources of 343, they’ve managed to make massive game changing additions to the game.

343 has far more people and far more money and other resources, and yet all they can manage to deliver is a bunch of reskins of everything already present in the game.

I am a novice programmer but a programmer nonetheless. I think my opinion on the work that goes into creating a part of a video game carries more weight than yours, respectfully. I can guess at how complex something like a vehicle would be.

They replaced it with the Hornet.

It had propellers on it, for Pete’s sake! In 2552!

Then they replaced the Hornet with … um … I don’t know … based on Halo 5’s intro, apparently a Spartan can splatter a Banshee, so … I guess they don’t need air vehicles anymore. lol

Gunners are still 100% exposed, can be killed very quickly with Hydra, snipers, railgun, BR, DMR, machinegun et cetera, if it couldn’t be destroyed in 1 or 2 laser hits people would complain that it is OP.

I liked the falcon, but realistically it wouldn’t work in Halo 5, and would likely be a lot of work for 343 that doesn’t give much to most players.

Off-topic if CMT made a standalone Halo game I’d buy it instantly. I spent so much time playing their multiplayer maps, and their Campaigns are good also.

On-topic, rofl. What exactly has changed so much since Reach that now makes the Falcon suddenly underpowered? What a nonsensical response these people are coming forward with. Even more nonsensical when people realize that scout warthogs exist in this game.
