What purpose does the "Yoink!" medal serve?

Specifically in team based matches, When someone is doing an assassination, you can’t do anything, but sit there and watch the assassination. You can’t speed up the process, nor kill him instant (unless the animation cannot be executed due to positioning)

Yoink! Is a great thing to get in Free For All based matches, but why does it count positively on teams?

can someone help me understand this please?

Also, Will the Yoink Medal be the same, or will it actually count against you in team based matches?

It doesn’t serve any purpose, just like all the medals in the game, they’re all for looks.

It doesn’t count positively to be honest, it adds to your medal chest, that’s all.

We don’t know if the Yoink! medal will be in Halo 4.

Well, obtaining the medal, grants you extra credits, and credits can earn you new equipment, So, if a team mate sees another doing an assassination and its an easy kill, they will Yoink! that kill.

Because they will be rewarded for it.

It gains a small amount of credits, and the rewards for credits is pure looks, you get nothing out of it other than armour.

You are missing the point.

What makes it okay to take someone’s assassination? Assassinations are difficult as is, they put you in an immobile and vulnerable position, the last thing you need is an ignorant team mate, who takes your work away from you.

In a team game, it doesn’t matter, your team gets the kill any ways and contributes towards the score, credits shouldn’t be your concern.

For Free for All, it is every man for himself, Yoinking is acceptable.

…you are completely ignoring my point

I think this was just a careless oversight by Bungie. There are other things related to medals that just don’t make apparent sense either; the Yoink medal in team play fits the sloppy pattern.

Out of curiosity, do you think they are going to do something about it in Halo 4?

It’s a reward for helping your teammates to stop wasting time.

> Out of curiosity, do you think they are going to do something about it in Halo 4?

I have absolutely no idea.

Your point is your kill gets stolen.
My point is, it doesn’t matter, it is a team game.

> It’s a reward for helping your teammates to stop wasting time.

That wasn’t his point. He was asking why the Yoinker gets rewarded (i.e., receives credits and Commendation progress as well as a medal) for stealing the kill from his teammate.

For fun
I love yoinking my teamates

Why shouldn’t he?

He got a medal, if I recall, most medals give credits as it goes towards the Jack of All Trades commendation, Yoink being one of them.

> It’s a reward for helping your teammates to stop wasting time.

What are you, the fun police?

You are seriously asking “Why shouldn’t he?” Then you’re still not getting OP’s point. Yes, the Yoinker gets a medal. But OP is basically asking: Why should he get a medal (which leads to further rewards as well)? Getting a medal is a positive thing. The Yoinker’s action of stealing his teammate’s kill is a negative thing. According to OP (and I agree with him), the Yoinker should not be rewarded for this behavior; not with a medal or any other form of positive recognition. That is OP’s point.

Yoinks aren’t always a bad thing.
Assassinations aren’t always wanted, and sometimes will get you killed.

There are two sides to this.
