What new guns do you despise, and which guns do you wish you had instead?

The weapon rivalry was shallow at best, the carbine was just a downgrade and the shotgun became a defensive playstyle weapon. The SMG was better in every way to the spiker ( it did not have a melee bonus ).

News guns to despise:
All

Guns to want for replacement:
H3 inspired versions with more depth and skill.

The problem her is where and how they spawn. Effectively, Dynamos are just like the H3 Power Drain. We all remember how powerful that thing was. Now players can carry TWO of them and they like a 15 respawn because “they’re grenades”. They’re fine in arena, but in BTB they need to be treated like power items.

The Shock Rifle would even be more of a power weapon than the Beam Rifle too. Since it can kill one player while descoping the other.

Both the Sword and Shotgun were used defensively - only idiots would rush at an enemy with either out, and it was arguably better because those weapons were extremely powerful at close range. The counter-play was to stay out of range.

The Carbine was better at closer ranges where you could spam shots easier, and it also had arguably higher total ammo. The Battle Rifle was better at mid-range.

The SMG and Spiker had different use cases. The SMG kills in 23 shots, the Spiker kills in 13. The SMG fires extremely fast projectiles at a high rate of fire but has a lot of kick and is inaccurate at longer ranges. The Spiker fires slower moving projectiles at a slower rate of fire but has less kick and does dramatically more damage (killing in 10 fewer shots than the SMG). It also does 72 points of melee damage compared to the SMG’s 70 (2 points can make a significant difference in a fight)

A skilled player can and will exploit those differences based on what’s needed. You can pair up the Spiker and SMG so you have one weapon to harass at longer ranges, and another to hose if they get in close. The reverse is true for the SMG - if you’re playing on something like Cold Storage, the SMG is the better choice compared to the Spiker (if they spawn at the same time on the same map type).

Sword was better aggressively due to lunge.

Yeah, no. The BR was a straight upgrade.

The SMG is far more consistent and it’s damage output is much easier to maintain compared to the spiker, ontop of the fact the spiker is outclassed by all other weapons.

2 points of melee damage means nothing, not enough to change melee fights and not enough to change the number of shots weapons will need to be combo’d.

The spiker is not useful at range.

The Sword Lunge range was not that long, and could be bulltrue’d by the Shotgun. The best use cases for the Sword were in ambush.

There are scenarios where I want the BR, and there are scenarios where I want the Carbine. I’m much more willing to take the Carbine on Guardian than the BR because it’s closer ranges and I can get shots out quicker at closer ranges than the BR can, with less of a drawback due to the Carbine’s slight inaccuracy. Also, provide some arguments instead of “It’s better,” that’s not an argument.

Just for the sake of argument as well, I looked up an analysis video on the Carbine vs Battle Rifle. The general gist of the video is that the Carbine is slightly easier to use, with the Carbine killing faster than the BR with bodyshots (about 0.40 seconds worth of TTK difference in favor of the Carbine), and the Carbine is slightly more accurate at range, with the BR having random spread on 2 of the shots in the 3-round burst and a noticeable degree of recoil. The BR has slightly stronger magnetisim and a 0.3 second faster reload.

Don’t believe me? I can’t post the YouTube video on Waypoint (thanks Waypoint), but the video is called " Halo 3 Analysis | Battle Rifle vs Carbine - Which is better?" by Aozolai.

The Spiker does the most damage of any automatic weapon in the game. It does 20% more damage than the AR and 60% more than the SMG. It’s damage output is dependent on the skill of the wielder. If you can lead your shots, you can do consistent damage with the Spiker at close-medium range. The issue with the SMG is that it’s a bullethose that kicks like a mule, and is only good at close-range.

It’s 2 points of damage you don’t get from the SMG or other non-Brute weapons, and it deals the damage to the health state once the shields are down. It’s not super noticeable, but it still does damage unlike your prior statement where you asserted it did not.

Just like the Plasma Rifle and other projectile based weapons, you can use them at Medium-range, though it won’t be easy. If you learn how to effectively lead your shots, you can do damage with almost any projectile-based weapon at range. This same principle was once applied to the Sniper Rifle in Halo CE. You had to lead your shots in order to do damage at range because the Sniper fired a (relatively) slow moving projectile.

For the first time ever I dislike most of the weapons in Halo. Anytime I pick up a weapon I think: “frak I hate this Fraken weapon”
The game needs to bring back most of the previous weapons the way they were and not screw with them by putting on a new twist, without some serious thought first. The game also definitely needs a shotgun so we have something to counter the Sword and Gravity Hammer on these small maps.

It’s a personal thing, but the AR irritates me, it has a way too much range, and if anything auto rifles should not be so accurate at longer ranges, I’m tired of getting sprayed from the opposite side of maps, again on small poorly designed maps, but I guess when most of the weapons are crap (for most people) just make a weapon that can spray at long range so there will be no need to use a different one.

There wasn’t a valid reason to eliminate virtually all previous weapons other than what I think 343 will do over the next how many years, which will be to introduce an iconic weapon one at a time during a monotonous event as bait. It’s all the rage now … we taketh we giveth, now go be happy.

Sniper rifle - I hate all sniper rifles
Sentinel Beam - stupid hard to aim
Skewer - what a loathsome bag of -Yoink!- this thing is
Stalker rifle - does it do anything?
Hydra - just awful compared to previous versions
Rocket launcher - pains me to say this, but it pales in comparison to previous versions. Rockets are my favorite weapon type and this one is just sad.

I want:
old Rocket Launcher
old Hydra
old Needlers

Shock rifle is one of the best…

Sidekick sucks.
Like a close range reach dmr with 3x recoil and bloom.

I agree with the bad weapons though.

Mangler go mauler comeback
But stronger because no dual weild

Fuel rod on land grab /zone modes

Any shotgun from any other halo
(Bulldog feels like bad internet even with 100% accuracy)

The real hydra…

Plasma caster just satisfying.

Sticky detonator

I am an idiot but I accidentally just discovered that the stalker has a double zoom.

I know, I know.

Everyone kept calling it a sniper rifle but I still didn’t clue it.

That would be interesting actually

Also, Shock rifle is great once you get the hang of it, I will admit this does take some time (and luck) but I’ve had some pretty awesome btb matches with it, even got my first kiltrocity using it.

Well for starters the Pulse Carbine was amazing in the Tech Preview but for some stupid reason it was change to being useless. I have never understood Bungie and 343 when it comes to Covenant and Forerunner Weapons in Halo by making Human Weapons more powerful and useful then anything else. Every time in the Alpha version of the game the weapons are amazing but when the full game comes out they become useless :unamused: it’s quite stupid in so many ways.

The best feeling is when a wasp or banshee is shooting u to gain a kill, but he dnt know that u r targetin him with a skewer

I actively avoid the plasma weapons, might be ignorant, but they never clicked with me in infinite.
What I despise is the current iteration of the energy sword; mechanically dumbed down and visually downgraded from even H2.

The guns I miss most are the fuel rod cannon and the rail gun.
