What needs to come back

A lot of comparisons have been made with Halo 4 and previous Halo Games and I want to know what features (from any Halo) you would like to see return in future Halo games. Personally here’s a few things I thought of.

  1. SCARABS! Oh, god how I missed scarab fights from Halo 3. I think the epitome of Mini-boss fights in Halo 3 was the fight with two scarabs when you had a hornet. Maybe they should add other (forerunner) mini-bosses too.
  2. Dual Wield (at least in SP/Co-op) - seriously? does no one else miss dual SMGs? I know they phased out most of the DW weapons but I would like to see it back in some form
  3. Armor Abilities - I like them (at least in SP) better than droppable equipment
  4. Sprinting - just yes…
  1. Hit-scan
  2. Equipment
  3. Classic gun sounds (BR, Gravity Hammer)
  4. Arbiter
  5. Timberland and Countdown (two maps that I really enjoyed for some reason)

-Descoping
-Duel Wielding and if no at least the smg and plasma rifle
-Boss fights (like the scarabs of H3)
-Active camo as a powerup not AA
-being able to pick up grenades without having to have a perk
-shields recharge at a reasonable time again without having to have a perk
-Arbiter
-competitive playlist
-Equipment
-Hit scan on my AR
-precision forging
-flat forge areas
-cqc
-open beta to iron out weapon balance

  • set loadouts
    -VIP
    -Race
    -Invasion (you cant tell me the maps aren’t big enough in H4 to have had this.)
    -small 4v4 symmetrical maps
    -weapons on map, power weapons only obtainable this way

Basically start from H3 add in Reach’s Forge and a more balanced version of H4’s weapon list minus the billion+1 1SK weapons.

  1. Arbiter.
  2. Scarabs.
  3. Needle Rifle.
  4. Reach UI.
  5. Ranked/Social & 1-50 that’s at least only visible to players who want it to be visible in game.
  6. Interactive maps.
  7. Less linear & repetitive missions.
  8. Firefight (Vastly improved please =))
  9. Invasion. Again, vastly improved please.
  10. A permanent team throughout the game, somewhat like Noble team.
  1. bungie police, but replace them with 343 police, so dealing with hackers and lag switchers doesn’t have to suck…
  2. bring back the SMG, mauler, and even that cool lighting gun from the halo reach campaign… take out the suppressor, its just plain bad…
  3. descope, everybody and their mother has been asking for this lately, I wonder why…

  4. ARENA style gameplay!!! I, mean CMON 343 WHY DID YOU SCREW THIS UP?
  5. don’t based your game offa reach’s engine… just, never again…

-Scarabs and/or something new that is huge and challenging to fight (be it Forerunner, Covenant or Flood). I want huge and epic battles again, and the less scripted the better (as in, like Halo 3’s Scarab and not like Halo 4’s Lich).

-Dual Wielding. That was one of the things that made Halo great and unique when compared to other shooters. Both Bungie and 343i have so far given up on it because they think it’s too hard to balance and just creates half-weapons, but I think that significantly decreasing accuracy and increasing recoil will balance it out well without having to make the single weapons useless. This also invites the return of many fan favorite weapons (SMG, Plasma Rifle, Spiker, Mauler…).

-Non-Linearity. I really want Halo 5’s campaign to be open. No more box canyons, narrow cliffsides or kill boundaries. Give us huge maps for the campaign and reward exploration with Easter Eggs, Skulls, Terminals, secret goodies and maybe even optional objectives. Make a campaign that has tons of replayability.

-Better Maps!!! Make a lot of them with interactive options like in Zanzibar and make the maps feel less static and more real. For the love of god, place weapons on the map- they give each map it’s own identity and play-style and Ordnance Drops are too few and too random to be a good replacement.

-The Return of Gametypes. Assault, Juggernaught, One Flag (and one-sided games in general), Invasion, Headhunter, Territories, Race, HaloBall and Stockpile. Bring them back, along with everything in Halo 4, and maybe even more. Give us the variety that Halo Reach offered.

-An amazing Forge/Custom Games experience that takes notes from other map editors such as Trials Evolution (which can easily become much more than a motorcycle game), Far Cry 3 (which allows people to create beautiful maps and canvasses all on their own) and Project Spark (which does it all and much more). Give the Community the tools to create something truly awesome, and we will love you for it.

-Don’t try to attract other communities at the expense of your core. Give us at least one Legendary playlist at launch, and have in game CSR (visible at least for the player himself) in certain playlists.

EDIT: Bring back some classic soundtrack. It was awesome. It was Halo. It’s missing. It’s been two main games now, it’s time for the return of the iconic tracks (you know what they are, and if you don’t just pick up Halo 2 and Halo 3’s OSTs, listen to them and pick the best). As awesome as Halo 4’s soundtrack was, the main Halo theme and many other tracks were not there, and the game didn’t get better for it.

-Ranked and Social Playlists
-Forge that is as aesthetically pleasing as Halo 3’s, that has the amazing handling and organization of Halo 4, and has large forge spaces like forge world from reach as well as precision editing.
-The SMG and Plasma Rifle
-The Arbiter
-Classic Sound effects
-The Halo theme (at the very least in terms of music)
-Interactive maps
-The ability to pick up grenades with out any armor mods
-Reach’s Plasma Pistol
-Halo 3’s Spartan Laser
-Having to look for the skulls in campaign
-Animated Terminals
-The ODST team from ODST (cameo appearance as spartan IVs maybe?)
-UNSC air Vehicles (Hornet or Falcon would be fine)
-The Revenant
-Weapon skins
-Guardian
-Loadouts (albeit limited in certain gametypes, like BTB having no plasma pistols or plasma grenades in loadouts)
-Race
-Classic armor (Don’t leave out the Mark V ad ODST this time!)
-Venator
-FOTUS
-Every single emblem from Halo 2 to Halo Reach
-The Flood
-Regular Infection
-The higher skill gap of previous Halos
-Scarabs

I don’t want to watch a video, can you just write it?

Oh, here are my top ten:

  1. Arbiter
  2. Precision Forging + Magnets
  3. Forge Environment (ex. Forge World, Forge Island)
  4. In addition with halo 4 vehicles: Spectre, Chopper, Hornet, and Falcon
  5. Civilian Vehicles (Campaign + Multiplayer)
  6. Focus Rifle (whoa, whoa… with beam rifle, no need to get furious.)
  7. Characters as the other players in campaign (no chief clones)
  8. ODST’s
  9. Weapon / Armor Skins
  10. Armor Effects (Grunt Birthday Party, Pestilence)

I’d rather have Harvesters as bosses than Scarabs

I’d like to be able to use fileshare again. Its so abysmally bad in H4 that it might as well not even be there.

  1. Boss fights in Campaign.

  2. Duel wielding (SMGs, Plasma Pistol, Magnum, and Boltshot)

  3. Plasma Launcher from reach.

  4. Falcon/Hornet

  5. Reach’s UI

  6. Firefight

  7. A more… quiet master chief (I feel in Halo 4 he was doing too much talking), “Less talking more killing”

  8. New colors for customization

  9. Elites

  10. Power ups

  11. about 2-3 Remade maps from past halo games

  12. 1-50 ranking system actually kick it up a notch and do 1-100 ranking system make it take awhile for you to hit max level.

  13. Hayabusa and Katana

  14. Halo 3’s/Halo Reach’s soundtrack combined would sound so freakin epic.

and lastly

  1. Every single gametype from past halo games even the ones in Halo 4 every single one of them. Don’t put them in MM fine but atleast have them as an option in Custom Games.

Take Reach’s custom game options, Forge, Armory, and Firefight…

Halo 3’s theater, skyboxes, ranking system, vehicles, maps, and sheer scale and epicness of campaign missions…

Halo 2’s movement, maps, playable Arbiter, soundtrack, button combos (they were glitches, but bxr was fun), and lower left shield bar…

Halo CE’s originality, grenade shenanigans, skill gap, and AI…

ODST’s open world exploration, Firefight (yes, in addition to the inferior Reach version), waypoint system, VISR mode, and writing…

on top of that add hitscan precision rifles and a refined magnets and dynamic lighting system for Forge, and I think that would make my dream Halo game.

Dual Wielding, definitely. I remember when that happened in Halo 2 and everyone went nuts.

It was a stupid decision to remove it.

Military ranks and proper ranked playlists.

I’m mainly saying things that were in the games before Halo 4 as nobody knows what won’t be taken across from 4 - “5”.

Weapons: The “Pro Pipe” Grenade launcher or a Brute shot that behaves in the same way, Sentinel Beam, Needle Rifle, Fire Bombs, SMG’s and Plasma Rifles

Vehicles: Scarabs, Spectres, Falcon.

Species: Drones and Brutes.

Other: Duel Wielding, Race, Assault.

No sprint no ordnance no flinch bring back descope

-Descope
-Haven
-Spartan Ops (cutting its budget a bit is fine, though)
-Long weapon despawn time
-No sprint (as an option)
-Installation 03!
-The prettiness of H4’s graphics minus the excessive bloom
-Thruster pack as equipment

I completely forgot about the Harvester. Best part of Spartan Ops, and I fully agree.

Sprint is fine if they removed instant respawn and made it so that you get slowed down heavily when sprinting if your getting shot. Ordnance I partially agree on but it has lead to many good custom games with its use so i stead for normal multiplayer it should offer ammo, grenades and a loadout weapon.
