What needs mixing up next?

Ok it seems that ever since the days of Halo 3 that Halo has been stuck between a rock and a hard place. If things are changed then people don’t like the damage to the classic Halo formula while if things are kept the same people don’t like the fact that the company isn’t innovating.

I’m simply wondering what things people would like to see added / removed from multiplayer for Halo 5 to either bring it back to its roots or revolutionise gameplay into something new?

Who says that changes should damage the classic Halo formula?

I would argue that the majority of the people here wouldn’t mind most changes. But as you say only as long as these changes are in line with traditional Halo formula. That being equal starts, equal opportunity etc.

I would like to start off by disagreeing with you in saying that Halo has been stuck in between a rock and a hard place since Halo 3. I would say Reach started that, or even ODST, but more so Reach.

What I would like to see removed is loadouts and everything related to it (perks and whatnot). Maybe its because I’m getting to be an older gamer (I’m still not that old) but I’m sick of class based shooters. I do dearly miss true Arena shooters but I am open for 343i to introduce the next generation of shooters that isn’t arena based or class based or even a mix of the two. Halo is supposed to innovate the industry in unimaginable ways. With that said, I don’t know what that is. I am no professional so I hope those who are professional, can pull something off. Maybe my expectations are too high maybe they are not.

Flinch is another mechanic I would like to see gone as well as Armor Abilities. As far as Sprint goes, I truly don’t know where I stand on that subject. I like an increased movement speed but sprinting does have its perks.

Halo 3 is significantly different from halo CE but yet it stayed true to the halo formula.

change isn’t the problem its what you change.

I can definitely think of a few things.
-How we go about matchmaking.
-How we handle creating maps and gametypes.
-Sandbox design.
-Campaign structure (in regards to both story and map design).

Are they going to change these things? No.
Do people in general want these things changed? Also no.

The primary difference between these is how different weapons are obtained. There really isn’t a lot of room to innovate there.

What comes to mind:
Identical spawns 1-9 weapons, may or may not have map pickups. “Arena Shooter”.*
Spawn with a specific set of weapons. Class Based Shooter.
Pick one or two balanced weapons from a large pool. Loadout Shooter.
Pick one or two weapons varying in power with costs attached. Buy System (Counter-Strike).
Earn more weapons through kills. Halo 4.

Personal Ordnance is really the closest thing we’ve gotten to adding anything new to obtaining weapons. And everyone hates it. What else is there? You don’t want classes, you don’t want loadouts, and you don’t want the traditional format either.

*There are many distinct definitions for this term, some having absolutely nothing to do with weapon spawning.

“What I would like to see removed is loadouts and everything related to it (perks and whatnot). Maybe its because I’m getting to be an older gamer (I’m still not that old) but I’m sick of class based shooters.”

(sorry don’t know how to do quotes on this forum.)

See the classes system is something I quite enjoy. People are always having the classic AR, BR, DMR argument and its something that allows people to use what they want. The perks I wasn’t a fan of though. The downside of classes is that it is very difficult to get the weapons perfectly balanced.

The personal ordinance I wasn’t a fan of though. :stuck_out_tongue:
