What Missing Brute Weapon Would You Like Designed?

As a dedicated Halo fan and game developer, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at designing something Halo-related for some time; and a weapon seems like a small enough project to tackle in a decent amount of time.

So, since the Brute sandbox has been largely ignored as of late, I thought I’d give it a little love!
Existing brute sandbox weapons are:

  • Brute Shot - Spiker - Gravity Hammer - MaulerSo, with this I want to design something to fit one of the missing weapon types: AR, DMR, or Sniper–and this poll will decide which one I tackle.

I’ll also use this thread to post progress pics as the project continues! Here’s the pipeline I follow for weapon design:

  • Silhouettes – Getting a feel for the shape of the gun - Sketches – various rough sketches that further expand on the best silhouettes. Defines ‘visual’ functionality of the gun. - Finalized drawing – Finished line art that combines best elements of previous sketches. - Tonal and Color Keys – trying out various color schemes and elements. - Finalized concept – Best selection from previous step is further worked on to create a detailed concept piece to work from. - Low-poly model & UV Mapping – low-resolution model of gun is made and UV-mapped for texturing. - High-poly model & Baking Maps – High-detail model of gun is created to ‘fake’ details on the low-poly version. - Texturing – Defines the surfaces of the gun. Metal, cloth, etc. Beauty is in the finer detail. - Rendering – Going to show off the gun, including it firing, within either Unreal Engine 3 or Unity.
