What makes the DMR so powerful?

Yes, weve all experienced the 5 shot kill against you while running to the top of the cliff on Ragnarok. However, the killer seems still be at his base. Its pretty well known that the DMR has long range capabilities…much like a sniper rifle, but what else makes it so powerful?

Aim assist and bullet magnetism. But these aren’t limited to just the DMR (I’m looking at you, beam rifle).

It’s fire rate only.

Beer

The only thing in my opinion which makes it powerful is it’s long range capabilities, especially in more open places. Easy to just sit and hide, shooting your DMR without getting into battle.

However if you’re aim is crap. The DMR is pretty useless.

Stopping power.
Stupid amounts of bullet magnetism.
Hit scan.
Too high ROF without restraint. (Like actually effective Bloom.)

Well, let’s see. Like you said, crazy long effective range. There’s also, crazy aim assist, bullet magnetism, high rate of fire, almost zero bloom, and it still retains the devastating damage of a 5 shot kill. As I describe it, it’s the Devil’s crutch.

> It’s fire rate only.

Its fire rate is it’s biggest weakness thats why basically any gun can beat it in CQB.

The bloom is none existant and is only there for visual effect on the DMR. I’ve never been hinder from it at all, unlike the Magnum which does have an effect on it. So in that regard, the DMR is broke.

Wrong.

It’s ROF is what makes it outperform all of the other precision weapons bar the LightRifle (and only when the LightRifle is zoomed).

But that’s what everyone asked for in Reach. No bloom.

I’ve out shot DMRs with BRs and Magnums only because it has a slower fire rate. One could also use the Carbine which is has the fastest fire rate of a precision based weapon, but is an eight shot.

Actually going back and playing Reach i’ve come to enjoy the patience th Reach DMR require. It rewarded players for timing thier shots.

I apologize. I meant to say that the DMR has a faster kill time than all of the other precision weapons bar the zoomed in LightRifle.

That was my bad.

DMR was only precission rifle in Reach (there was also Needle Rifle, but apart from being actual automatic, it worked very similar), so most people got annoyed by this. DMR in Halo 4 is just one of four precission rifle, so any bloom-haters still would have some very decent choice. Problem with DMR is:
Infinite range

  • fast kill time
  • bullet magnetism
  • huge clip
= player can spam bullets from any range and still gets headshots before being shot down or even noticed (for maps like Ragnarok).
Infinite range is something that makes DMR different from BR.
Bullet magnetism in DMR is no different from BR’s or LR, and LESSER than Carbine’s. However for DMR it’s still too much, because it’s one-shot and that makes every bullet hit the target as long as player aims somewhere around opponent (unlike BR, which has it’s bursts somehow random). To make it worse you can kill more people with 1 DMR’s clip, that with any other default weapon’s clip (probably except for Boltshot, which is overpowered as well).
Fast kill time comes from combination of fast rate of fire and power of each bullet.

Now let’s face it, bloom would fix almost all DMR’s problem at once:

  • forcing players to slow down their shots in long range,
  • making DMR less accurate in close/mid range (where people usually spams their bullets), which will not only make it’s actual kill time longer, but also making it’s huge clip, not so huge.

Bloom haters would hate it, just like they did in Reach, but that would improve overall gameplay. Those who actually liked bloom mechanics (myself included) would have interesting DMR, those who didn’t (majority) would use BR, Carbine or Light Rifle - like it’s suppose to be.
